Amy - I can wait (albeit with bated breath) for your full RR but I am DYING to read a TSAR - Thursday School Assembly Report Were you made to feel like a conquering hero?

Speaking of heros - one of my friends and classmates from RMC (the Royal Miliitary College - Canada's equivalent of West Point/USAFA/USNA) is a guy named Chris Hadfield. Since we graduated he became an astronaut, has flown on the space shuttle twice and was teh first Canadian to perform a space walk. Yesterday it was announced that he will be the first Canadian to command the International Space Station. How cool is that?

Hurricane Earl arriving tomorrow with winds of up to 100kph and 60 mil. of rain expected in our region. We are quite some distance inland so impacts will be greater of course in coastal regions (like at our cottage).

Tomorrow will mark 2 weeks until my race day. I am planning on one more good strong week of training and then the second week I will ease off.

Happy Labour (or Labor) Day weekend everyone!!

Sticka

Hey all!
Another day, another good swim.  Work was horrid yesterday but better today and the three day weekend is much needed.  I have my first really long ride tomorrow (4 hrs) for the first time since HIM training.  Debating on signing up for NOLA 70.3 again next year.  Also, after reading Billy's RR I would really love to do a IM but the training time alone for the relay is more than I want to spend.  May be training for a IM after doing the relay will be easier?  Right now 70.3 training sounds so much easier.

FBP - good luck with Earl, hopefully it will be a non-event for you.

Mav - how is the knee?

LRR - where have you been hiding?  I know our two new IM aren't up for a challenge but I could use one the beginning of Oct to get me ready for the last two races of the year.

Diane - are you doing the sprint on 9/11?

Billy - that wasn't long but it was great.  Glad my tips could help you but with that time you were already pretty dang fast.

Amy - Readers are waiting!  Enjoy the time!

Lena - how are you?

John, Nancy, Dan  - Come back!!!

Back in the water today for the first time, only 800 yards.  I am miserable.  I have no direction in life.

Amy, whatcha gonna do, I'm still waiting on you.

Lena, are you hiding from me.

Gary, you can do it.

Great RR Amy. There is a naval tradition when expressing congratulations - to fly the pennant for "B" and the pennant for "Z". Every letter is represented by a word (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.) so this sign becomes "Bravo Zulu".

To you and Billy from Sticka: BRAVO ZULU !!!!!!!

Amy - you are an Iron Wooooo Man... love it!!  I love how much support you had from your family & friends... Also, I love that you took the whole race slow & steady so you never burned out... That's how I hope to do my races - it's always so hard for me to reel it in, and you were able to do that for an IRONMAN - You are AMAZING!  CONGRATS again!!

I have to admit, it felt great to race again.  My last race was the South Bend Marathon on June 5.  The hamstring finally felt normal again.  This sprint has gotten me excited about racing again.

Congrats to Amy and Billy.  That is awesome.  Someday I hope to joing the ranks with you guys.  My little sprint race pales in comparison to what you guys did.

Happy to report that the hurricane was mostly a non-event here but it did wallop our neighbours in Nova Scotia. Today is a beautiful day.

Feeling a lot more confident now after a good weekend of training. On Friday evening I did a 1500m timed swim and finished in 34 minutes feeling very good. Today I did a brick workout - 50k on the bike averaging 26 kph and 7k run averaging 6:00 minutes per km. Felt strong as I finished the run so no doubts in my mind now about being able to cover the distances in respectable times.

Looking forward to the extra day off tomorrow - part of which I am spending volunteering with one of the local Lions club. They raise a ton of money for diabetes so this is a way for me to "pay back".

Hey all!
I guess you  can add another finish line.  Fleet feet sponsored a 2 or 3.5 mile fun run with pancake breakfast.  Diane, I got to meet Vincent from the Penguins group.  Nice guy, met his GF also.  DD took second in her AG on the 2 mile course.  DS took off too fast wanted to do the 3.5 but ended up cutting the course off and running about 3 miles.  I did the 3.5 mile.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday!

John - congrats!!!! You are fast!!!

Quick race report. We started as a late age group- old men. Water felt great and swim was uneventful. I thought I was going really slowly but I did have an ok time for me. Right in line with most Oly swims. I came out of the water and on the run to T1 it started to rain. I mean RAIN. It poured through the first 17 miles of the bike so I was very very careful. Several bodies on the streets really make you think. My goal is to stay upright this year. I found myself with a death grip on the aerobats a couple of times and had to remind myself to relax or I would tense myself into going down. There is a long gradual hill you do 3 times and I let it go to 30 but that was IT. Usually that is a 35-36 mph flight for a short while. I dialed the bike way back to stay rubber side down but it didn't cost me that much. The run was pretty good the sun came out and it got hot and humid. Got er done and then ate a bit. Took a while to cool down - had a great shower and Deb and I headed home. After about a 90 minute drive I put up the bike, rinsed the wetsuit and took a 15 minute nap. if you ever find yourself in Austin on Labor Day you should do this race.

I was wondering if you were gonna meet up, when I saw where he was going... sounds like a great FE... congrats to your DD on her 2nd place finish, and congrats to you and your DS for your races

I Just got back from a ""I'm In No Shape To Do A Century" Century" and I found out that I was in no shape to do a century - We "only" did 92 miles as part of our route was closed due to a one car accident with a fatality   other than that, the ride SUCKED, it was too HOT, it took WAY too long, lots of stops to buy more drinks and someone had 2 flat tires... I'm tired and hurting now... oh well... GREAT training for the Centuries I have coming up.... makes me wonder why I signed up for them...

ETA: This was just a bunch of friends getting together to do a Century Ride... started with 8 of us (actually 2 of us started early, and we met up with the other 6)  then 2 turned around early, then 1 went home - he rode to the start... then when the ride was going short, another guy went the long way home, then another went home... we ended up with 3 at the end  - lol

John & Bryan - good job on your Tri's

Yeah, it kinda sucked that he had to give up his life so we didn't have to ride an extra 8 miles...  There was another in the car who was helocopter lifted out - I hope that other person is OK... didn't look good though  always disturbing to see... Glad it wasn't a cyclist though - we've had WAY too many cyclist accidents in town lately.... and this was a popular cyclist/motorcycle route
