uhcoog - 2012-10-04 8:28 AM Moved my long run to today.  It dawned on me last night that with Cindy out of town I'm not going to get away to train tomorrow so I bumped it up.  May also mean I'm stuck on the trainer for 3.5 hours Sunday.  That wouldn't be bad if the Texans weren't playing until Monday night.  Damn.

Rent a movie on demand!!!!  Imagine having to do that for 5 months of the year due to snow

Snow if fun to visit.  It is not for living in.    Wink

I hear you!  I don't like to be cold, I don't ski, and I don't like making snowballs.  I grew up on a snowmobile, but I haven't ridden one in years.  The older I get, the more I realize I am not cut out for the changing seasons.  The short days and overcast skies depress me.  I am a sun bunny and need to live in Southern California.

Random question....how do you all carry shot bloks for the marathon portion of the IM?  I remember Kelly & Jeremy saying they consume these every 2 miles.  Put them in your pockets?  I'm thinking about switching to those for the run portion of the IM and want to try it out during training next year, so just genuinely curious.  I got sick of the gels on the run, but I plan to use them on the bike portion of the IM (all diluted in a water bottle).

Scott - what are you using for run portion of your IM?

There are race belts you can use with a whole bunch of extra loops on them that will hold the blocks, if you don't want to carry a fuel belt.  Check fuel belt for there race belts ... they have some.

I grew up in Southern California, and it was very nice.  But we spent a lot of winter in Mammoth & Tahoe skiing, and I love love love snow!  I prefer cold, and love snow & rain.  I could care less about the beach and sun.  I think I'd like to live somewhere that gets snow (we are currently looking at Colorado or Tahoe), but I wonder if I would get tired of having to drive in the stuff.

As far as blocks go I tend to like the Gu products over the Cliff products so I'm trying out the block every other mile at Oilman.  Depending on how that goes I'll either switch to ultra concentrated liquid nutrition in a flask for Galveston 70.3 in April or stick with the blocks.  But currently I plan to jam a couple of bags of Gu blocks into my tri top for IMTX.

Temp wise I FAR prefer the cold.  That said I don't want to shovel snow, or drive in it, or sleet, or ice.  It just seems like more of a pain in the rear if you were the one who had to deal with everything that comes along with it.  Now if I had the funds to pay someone to handle all the ancillary issues that comes with snow and could find a place with a somewhat fiscally conservative political stance I'd be set.

Speaking of random, I was bumping around on YouTube yesterday and subscribed to a bunch of triathlon related channels.  Truth be told I've never spent a ton of time on the site and was amazed at exactly what is on there.  That place is motivation galore.

The belt I'm wearing in the picture is a race belt with a little pouch on it.  I keep the shot bloks in the little pouch.  No bottles so it doesn't feel much different than a normal race belt.

I wore Desoto 400 mile shorts and they have 2 leg pockets i threw a package in each pocket one pack was  non-caffinated for the first 13 miles and the second pack was caffinated for the 2nd 13 miles. worked for me.

I have something similar to Kelly. It is basically a race belt with a little pouch on it. It is pretty comfortable like Kelly said.

Kelly - the kit looks great!!!

Add me to the list that do NOT like the snow. I am fine with crisp temps in the 40's or 50's and love running in that temp, but NO snow for me!

Because we live on Lake Erie, it's pretty much a blizzard here for at least 4 months of the year.  I have to shovel quite a bit, and that's later in the day after my husband does the initial early a.m. shovel.  Bundling up a bunch of toddlers and little kids in snowpants, boots, coats, hats, and gloves at least twice a day gets old, too.  Maybe it won't be so bad when everyone is a little bit older.

You only say that because you don't get a lot of it.

Winters with 100+ inches of snow are no fun.  Running in Yak Trax gets old really fast.

Rest day yesterday.  I had a great day with my family.  Shared a bottle of wine with my husband over a delicious dinner - homemade turkey thai lettuce wraps and stir fried bok choy.  My kids love this meal, too.  I know I can't feed a bunch of teenage boys with it, but it's fine for now.  My oldest ate 3 lettuce wraps.  LOL

Today was the first run since Cedar Point where I actually felt OK.  I'm still at a slow pace for Z1 runs, but whatevs.  Followed the run up with 30 minutes of core.

Popped some banana oat muffins in the oven a few minutes ago (made from scratch), and then I'm working on some oven baked greens and grains.  I've been in the kitchen a lot the last 2 days  It's raining and very cold here.

Just registered for the Turkey Trot  Nothing like running a 5 mile race before eating a very large dinner.   This is the only race I'm running until April!!!

Morning, all!  Up early for a short swim & strength training session.  Focus was on the pull today.  It was in the low 30s when I left the house.......so hard to get in the pool when it's so cold outside, and it's even harder to leave the gym with wet hair.

Shopping for winter running gear today.  Need to look for deals.

Have a great day!

It's in the 60s here in the morning.  Brrrrrr.  Tongue out

No seriously that's cold for us.  Spent 1.5+ hours on the trainer yesterday and then Cindy got home and she was nice enough to let me finish up my workout outside in the gorgeous weather.  Today was 2500 in the pool and an hour on the bike.  I'm really itching to race at this point.  The next month is going to suck.

In the 30's here already!  Thought I would get frostbite volunteering at the Chicago Marathon yesterday was sooooooo cold!  Ran at 34 degrees Saturday too!

They are still trying to schedule bike rides at these temps ... NOT FOR ME, can't do cold bike rides.  About 65 is my limit.  Don't think I have ever ridden below.
