lesleyann - 2010-06-10 8:20 AM Thanks for the offer. I listed my reservation on craigs list so if someone bits, I would be interested. There are just so many nice hotels up there, its just hard to believe they picked that one as the host. I am sure its fine but everyone has there own level of comfort. I may be a bit more high maintenance in this department.

Will the hotel keep your name on a list in case they still have a waiting list or someone calls in?  Devlins will rebook it for you if they can, which is why I ask.  Devlins is awesome if you end up wanting a different hotel that is very close to transition & the swim start.  Simple, clean, no frills.

Last year while volunteering I stayed at High Peaks...down a block or so from Northwoods. It is clean, easily walkable to the race and has a pool. Probably somewhere in the middle between Golden Arrow and Northwoods in terms of price/comfort, etc.

We stayed at Wildwood on the Lake.. It's "ok" not great, and about a 15 min walk from downtown.  I think we are paying $9?? + tax from wed to wed. for a "suite.

The Northwoods is a dump?  Really!?!?  I'm spending a grand on a crap hole of a place?

Unfortunately it is, I posted something about it after my trip over Memorial Day. I had stayed there in October but the place was empty and they put me in a room they had renovated, the guy said it was one of the "first" so I'm not guessing many have been. It wasn't nice by any means, but it was clean and tolerable. I only stayed one night over Memorial Day (thankfully) and it was not tolerable. I also cancelled and will be staying somewhere else now too.

I agree with Lesleyann, not sure why they would choose Northwoods when all of the other places are so much nicer. It's a shame.

Heading to LP tonight for a training weekend with at least 3 other BTers.  Looking forward to it!!  I'm more nervous about the training weekend than the race.  At a race you're a little dot among 3,000 other dots, but during a training weekend you have people that you're trying not to burden!!  Looking forward to trying to keep up with swishyskirt and kelley2010 on the bike and run!

though an Iron virgin, I'll throw my thoughts out on pacing.

if you have to decide to chase someone early on in an IM race (even a HIM) you are simply proving to yourself pacing is not your strength.

You were either going too slow prior to the move, or too fast after the move......

Because pacing is so difficult and screwing it up will result in a death march...best to lean towards the side of going too slow.  Save the chasing for sprints and olypmics

I think it's Gordo who said:

"In the unlikely event you go to slow on the bike, you have 26.2 miles to get back lost time."

or somthing like that....

2 more hours of work, than I head home....than I am off to LP in the AM!!!!!

BIG training block this weekend......

Ive never been, and Ill give you some reviews monday, but my coach suggested:

The Dancing bear

Milano's
This is super close to your hotel, a second floor restaurant, little fancier than the dancing bear. GREAT FOOD. Cool atmosphere

There is a bagel place right below your hotel called Sunshine's.... great coffee and sandwiches.

The coffee bean cafe is also in the mall across from your hotel that offers a great view of the lake.

And the old standard for really good beer: THE LAKE PLACID BREW PUB!

Make sure you take note on the way in and out of Placid: Tail o'The Pup. This is a must go to sometime!

Fixed.

Jorge & I like this restaurant.  http://www.greatadirondacksteakandseafood.com/

And there is a good breakfast place (looks like a diner, can't remember the name) right near Devlins.

I do not think Mr. Mike's is good fwiw.

Doing, but not racing This is my first race attempt since the torn plantar fascia and I've only done one brick. I'm celebrating my 35th birthday on Saturday and racing a new AG on Sunday. I'm out to have some fun and that's it. I'm really looking forward to it!

PennState - 2010-06-10 11:18 PM I really love the idea of letting the race come to you. It's VERY hard to do this though. ust wait until you watch people whizzing by you on the bike!

I do look at mph on the bike, I don't stress about it, but I use it in part of my calculations.

I mainly go by RPE, then HR, then pace.

No power for me, but maybe next year

^^^^Me too, except for the power.  I think I may be two years away.  I want to get back to the U.S. and close to people who can help me.  Meaning...stand right next to me and help me with power.

I love it!!  So inspiring and true.  I think I do pretty well, with the exception of worrying about things I cant control on the course...need to remember that point!

Good luck to everyone racing Eagleman this weekend....what a beautiful bike course!!

Guess who got his case of Ironman super drinks today?  How is it that they can ship that giant heavy box and have it get here that quick yet if I order some tri gear I end up waiting twice as long.

Doesn't matter, looks like I'll be crushing my 100+ miler tomorrow now that I'll be POWERED up!
