Pete, I finally read your RR - congrats on your race... I love that you were thinking you wanted to be able to race when you were the "older" man's age, and that a "younger" man wanted to be able to race at YOUR age... classic!  So cool that your DS was able to be there for you - I know it meant a lot for you - and I'm sure it meant a lot for him too... The Lobsterfest sounded YUMMY

Unless I can figure out a way to scam a trip far to the south, my tri race season is over now .

Swing on down to Mav's place, she can take you over to Billy's place and then I can pick you up and you can do the Aquabike Oly with me in the end of Oct.

BTW, fantastic RR!  Congrats.  What a wonderful time for you!

elcaminobill - 2010-09-20 9:30 PM I am doing the marathon leg of the B2B in North Carolina with Quarterback Gary in November.  Just remember this, the tattoo is ugly for at least the first week and a half (at least mine is), I hope it gets better, and I would never do it again (I dont think), it hurt like #&!! getting it.  I really hope I dont have to get it touched up because I dont know if I am up to it.

You guys are going to have a GREAT time!!!

I already have a tattoo and I actually liked getting it!  I know I'm weird!!  I watched the whole time too.  I like how you say you would never do it again but you add "I don't think."  Because never say never!  HA HA!!

Well decided to try out a lower rolling resistant tire.  Conti GP Triathlon.  Put it on this morning and will give it a whirl tomorrow.  I had forgotten how much of a PITA it was to change tires on my velocity rims.  Stock Kenda rims are a breeze to swap tires.  Also found yesterday that if I use my "emergency" inhaler just prior to swmming that swimming is a lot easier (imagine that!).  Dr has always said to use a couple of puffs before working out but I didn't really think that I needed to anymore.  Wrong.

LBP - great pics!!!  You did look like you were having fun.

Billy - you got maple syrup!

Finished a 5 hr/92 mile ride.  First two hours on the trainer waiting for the A/C guy to eventually tell me I need to spend 10K for a new one (ouch! Ouch! and ah carp!).  2.5 hrs on the road until thunderstorms chased me back to the trainer for the last part.  Of course the rain stopped 5 minutes after I got on the trainer!

On top of the A/C fun I went out to pickup the trash can from the curb along with mail.  As I am reading the mail and pulling the trash can my hand starts to hurt.  Freakin' fire ants on the trash can handle!  Several bites but Bendryl is handling it for me.  Just my day!

Good morning y'all! Not much action on our discussion thread - why so quiet?

I'm heading to the pool today at lunch for my first swim since Lobsta-Man. The week off has done me good - I'm actually keen to get going again.

Hey all!
Since Freddy mentioned that it was quiet here I thought I would help rectify that with the usual Gary noise.  Training is a bit sluggish this week.  Rode last night on the trainer and very little juice left in the legs.  Plan calls for another ride tonight.  Swam yesterday and it went pretty well.  Intervals with the Masters class then ladders after that.   Rode the trainer again tonight but low RPE.  Felt better.

New A/C in but new furnace not operational yet.  Didn't think it was an issue but this morning the temps were in the 60's.  Fall might actually be coming to Louisiana and I may need my heater sooner then I thought.

Are we up for an October challenge?

My quarterback wants to know if I am taking time off?  How can I take time off and be prepared for my marathon in B2B?  I am training still, biking, running, and swimming.  Finished a 5K this morning at Mississippi state with my son.  All on gravel................will run 9 miles in the morning before church, just like last week before church.  I have been training, just haven't been logging.  Joined Gold level last week and will be testing my LT for the coaches this week.  I will be sub 6 on my Half Ironman next April.  Also have a sprint tri next Saturday, Mighty Magnolia, used to be the Eagleman.  Actually the first triathlon I ever did last year.  My son will be doing it with me this year.

LRR, add the 5K finish line for today.

Gary, has the switch been made for the B2B?

To all I say, later dudes!

Go Billy, Go!  Went by to check on you and nothing.  But sounds like you are well on your way.  Congrats on the 5k.  I will check with Trey to see if he has updated it.

Got a nice ride in yesterday and another one in this morning.  Put my new Conti GP Triathlon tire on the back and it seems to help a little, ordered another one for the front.  Legs are really feeling it so going to have a bit of a cutback week then go for another long ride on Friday and a long swim on Thurs.

Hope everyone's training is going well.

Diane - what did you decide about the Aquabike?

I'm hoping to do some cross training, as well as swim, bike, run during the off-season. The HUFF 50K here in Indiana is running their last race this December. It's 3 10-mile loops. I was looking at doing it in 2011, but since is the last year, I'm going to run at least two loops and the go from there and see how I feel. With it being a mid-December trail run, I don't really want to go into it with any expectations. I'm also hoping to do some cyclocross this season. I can't believe how quickly our calendar is filling up! So, yes, I'm up for a challenge!

Gary, I'm riding the route tomorrow - so that should give me an idea of how hard the bike portion is - they bill the FULL Tri Ride as the HARDEST Triathlon ride in America... In fact, next year the International Tri Finals will be here... I'm doing the Half - which is still hard... plus, I have to see how my swimming is coming along... I have to swim the 2000 in Open Water in less than 70 minutes... I'm thinking it's doable... so, I haven't paid the money yet

Today I did the LIVESTRONG ride... 67.32 miles... the cool part is that I finished STRONG... a MUCH stronger finish than any of my recent long rides... felt good... next week is a 115 mile Century ride, so that gave me a bit of confidence going in to that.

Hi everyone!

What a great weekend here. Yesterday I went for my first music lesson since high school. I have signed up with the Society of St. Andrews Pipe Band academy. At some future point in time FBP will (hopefully) be FBPP - Freddy Beach Piping Pete For the moment I have a practise chanter and the noises I make are somewhere between an injured Canada Goose and a lovesick moose

Today was pink ribbon Run For The Cure day in Canada. My awesome admin assistant Niki is completing a 2 year term as regional run director and just like at work, she did an amazing job. More than $200k raised in little old Fredericton and I believe close to 1000 participants. I finished first in the unofficial 5.4k Men In Kilts division. You can probably guess how many were in the division ...

After the run it was home to meet Jill (who would not be seen with me running in a kilt) and puppy Samantha and we went for a drive to the country to pick apples. Sammy had a blast running through the long grass in the orchard chasing after the windfall apples, etc.

Out of town on business the next 2 days. Later y'all.

Great run in a kilt Pete...pics please Laughing!!!!!

Dianne, your biking is amazing!!!

Billy and Gary...B2B is getting close

I did a century ride this weekend called the Major Taylor Century. The ride included 6400 feet of climbing, so if you are ever in the mood for a hilly century, this is the ride for you!!!! It was not the best of weather. We started and the temps were in the high 40's. It got into the 50's but the wind picked up making it pretty chilly. I went with a few friends from BT so it was a fun day.

6 more weeks to IMAZ...I am ready!!!

Well, my ride yesterday SUCKED!!!  I was sooooo incredibly slow, and I was hurting... I just couldn't seem to move - add 30-40mph wind gusts... some rain... and then the HOT sun... I was cold at times and overheated at other times... crazy weather!!!  we only rode 46.1 miles, but it felt like 100... so, all of the confidence I built on Saturday got crushed on Sunday LOL...PLUS, there are 3 KILLER hills, and I had to walk up ALL of them!!!  I've heard that even the strongest riders choose to walk them during the race as that's where a lot of accidents happen... but still, I couldn't even get 1/4 the way up - I had problems WALKING up them with that headwind!!!  I'm pretty sure I'm NOT doing the Silverman AquaBike... the bike route is just KILLER, and I'm not ready for the swim... what do I have going into this???

Wake up people!
People are awake...

I volunteered at a duathlon that my MIL and FIL organized together with their TRI club (read: they did most of the work). It was the very first race I volunteered at. It was nice! We went to the meeting on Thur (myself and the kids), Damon came down on Friday am, we helped set up transition area, then up early on Saturday to help with the registration, odds and ends and then bike course. Crazy windy and cold that day, but it was fun to watch people race for once! It's a small du, second year running, they went from 60 ppl last year to 113 this time, so growing nicely.....

I'm also volunteering for Hot Chocolate 5/15K race on Nov 6, and get this... after multiple failed attempts to get a hold of anybody about volunteering, I ended up talking with the guy who is in charge of the WHOLE volunteer operation not only for the Hot Chocolate race, but also Chicago Marathon and many others!!!! whoohoo! He said that since I've done so many races and have a good understanding of what makes a good race, he'll put me in charge of volunteers at the Start/Finish line, so SIL and I will have jackets and radios and everything lol He said to come by at the Marathon Expo and meet him and he'd introduce me to some other people Sweet!

personally...........really quiet taper going on here. Life has been getting in the way, so I have no been running as much as I need to. Marathon is in 2 days, and strangely, I feel no marathon craziness. It will be a blast to run it with a group (Team World Vision), and I'm not at all worried.

Great races everyone!

Morning folks!!!

Well it has been a horrible week for training.  We had our conference for our users and that killed several days of training and my knee is sore so not much biking.  Will try for a long swim (with the pull buoy) tomorrow but my planned long ride has been postponed.  My son has a soccer tournement this weekend so I will only get a short workout this weekend.

From what I can see:

Diane has a century ride coming up, then a sprint, then a 150 bike3?
Mav has IMAZ
I have an Oly Aqua bike coming up
Billy and I have B2B next month
Lena has the Chicago Marathon!

Anyone else?

This week is kinda an easy week for me... swam on Tuesday & today with a new coach - not sure if I like what she's teaching, but I'll take what I like and go on... I signed up for 5 lessons... so, 3 more...Wednesday I did a 17 mile ride on my new bike (it's a heavy steel frame bike = good workout)  I have a 115 mile Century Ride this Saturday, then a short recovery ride & swim on Sunday... I stopped running til after Cycling season is over.

Still unsure about Silverman AquaBike, but I'm pretty sure I'm NOT doing the Sprint Tri... and yes, I have the MS ride mid-November... actually it's a 200 - back to back Centuries...

so, to re-cap
10/9/10 RTC Viva Bike Vegas (115 mile ride)
11/7/10 Silverman Aquabike (HIM distances) ???
11/13/10-11/14/10 MS 200

If you would like to donate to the MS organization, you can donate here http://bikenvl.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?px=8501036&pg=personal&fr_id=12986 DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED TO DONATE... just if you want the opportunity to donate to that organization and you have it in your budget... then feel free... btw, I already met my goal, it's just not all counted yet

I have the Mighty Magnolia (formerly the Eagleman), this Saturday.  1/3 mile swim, 16.5 mile bike, 3 mile run.  My son will be competing along with me for his first "real" tri.   I am so going to kick his little bitty fat free body all over the place and then make him like it!  If I don't post after the race, you will know he beat me and I have killed myself.
