I also agree with the above "sign up for a race for motivation" on top of jumping on the excitement bandwagon! Haha! I have decided to do Ironman France Nice in June 2013 and I'm so excited!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Haha

amhale2000 - 2012-02-10 8:44 AM So I'm back on track this week, have been running consistently.  3 easy miles & weights are on the agenda tonight and my first long run in a long time tomorrow am.  Only 8 but I'm still a bit nervous!

Hope the run went well!

Wow! That sounds awesome! Signing up for races helps me too. I'm finding the relay I signed up for really motivating since I don't want to let my teammates down.

Who has a race coming up?  anyone?

I made it through my first spin class today!  I still have a bunch of work to do til I can keep my butt out of the saddle for all of the "climbs" but it was a lot of fun.

I have a St. Patrick's 5mi race coming up in a few weeks that I'm looking forward to!

Nice work on spinning!  It's super tough in the beginning but once you get acclimated it's not so bad, still tough but tough in a good way

I didn't get my run in last weekend, woke up Saturday morning feeling sick and achy all over.  Finally felt better by Monday but had class that night so this week (so far) I did spinning on Tuesday and ran 4 yesterday.  Shooting for 5 tonight outside if the weather cooperates!

I'm not getting in a lot of SBR this week as we've been taking our girls XC skiing every day it's nice out after school. Yesterday I was out with them and I was thinking "this is going to make it so I can't run later" and I was getting a bit stressed. Then I looked up ahead at my 12 yo heading through the woods with her Dad behind her, my 9 yo gliding along in front of me talking a mile a minute about how much fun she was having, and if I thought she could be a skier in the Olympics someday, and I realized I was exactly where I needed to be. I would not have remembered yesterday's scheduled run in a year from now, or even in a week, but I bet I'll remember yesterday's skiing with my family for a while. When we got home my youngest said, "I love it when we do things like that together. It makes me happy that we're such an active, fit family". So yeah, that hour squeezed in after work and school and before the evening activities, homework, practices etc was and is worth it.

Sometimes I need to check my priorities.

Great perspective!  I often when I don't feel like working out at lunch tell myself- if I work out now I get that much additional quality time with my daughter after work.  I always feel so much better when I do it!

Good luck on your St. Paddy's race amhale!  My 2 yo was just running around in a huge foam Guiness top hat I wore in a St. Paddy's 5k I ran with friends a few years ago!

I'm thinking of doing a 5k on Sunday.  I think I need a push past 3 miles.  It will be the furthest I've run in at least 3 years!

Nice work Christie! Glad you had fun with your family!

I've got a race in 6 weeks. Indoor tri and then Neal and I are doing the Hollywood Half Marathon. Its my week off of surgery so I'm going to visit my grandfather for a few days before meeting up with Neal for the race. I'm planning in my head to get up at 0345 to do some trainer rides before work when I am at the trauma hospital that rounds at 530-600....but we will see how often that happens in reality...

0345 is early.....Just saying.

Been going pretty well this week myself! Been rough switching my time table up to wake up at 500 to go to the gym. I hit a "dead zone" around 1-2pm...but we've had lecture all week to prep for surgery/anesthesia so that probably more the problem. Long run tomorrow afternoon after site orientation for next week. I'm heading off to Banff for the weekend with a friend to hang out. We have a spa day booked on monday before coming back to Edmonton. Prob get a few runs in Banff done. Woooo sports massage and facial on Monday! OHHHHH YAAAAA!

Oooh!  Your weekend sounds awesome.  I visited Banff last summer (did a biking trip through Banff and Jasper National Parks) and loved it, such a fun place to visit.  Enjoy the massage

Feel better HexB.

I signed up for Trainer Road and I did my FTP test today. 143. So, not winning the Tour anytime soon but better than 142 I guess! That's a 2.5 power to weight (should say mass, but I digress) so now I know my starting point! I love Trainer Road -  It really makes the workouts fun! (Of course I've only done three...) I figure I'll be pro by summer.

I hope you feel better too! I usually lay low for a bit if I'm sick. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow. I did a master's workout left on the board at the pool and actually hit the intervals for the first time. There was a few 50 sets that got me going and I really stretched out my stroke. Even closed in on 30 sec at the end of a build set. Then went biking with my husband (mil is here for the weekend) and we went 10 miles on our mountain bikes. It's 6:30 and I'm ready for bed.

Hope you are feeling better Marc! It kind of depends. Sometimes I lie low for a few days and sometimes I will train through illness, kind of depends what it is. I'll normally continue on with URTI and the like, but generally will try to tone it down if I have a fever/nausea/vomiting. There is no hard and dry "rule" for when you shouldn't train with illness, it's importent to not push it too much that you end up prolonging your illness!

Just spent the weekend in the mountains. Climbed Sulpher Mountain yesterday with a friend. Around 7500 ft. Banff itself is at 4800ft so it isn't too big of a hike up it! Haha. Did my long run before I came down here, so my legs are a bit angry. Have a sports massage this afternoon before heading home! Woooo! Excited! Haha. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Okay guys! QOTW: What are you most excited and nervous about for any upcoming race(s) in your schedule?

My "most excited": Well...I'm most excited for IM France...but that isn't for another 15 months...but I guess I'm excited for this indoor tri I have in 6 weeks...since it's pretty much my 5-6 time doing it because I've been at this darn university so long. I'm excited to see if I can win this year! Haha. I got beat out by 1 min last year. We will see....

My "most nervous": I'm quite nervous about being able to train properly for my 70.3 this year due to my rotations. In theory getting it done should be too bad....but reality might have a different plan in the next 24 weeks. We will see!

Mine are a bit flimsy...but at the moment those are my race plans! Haha. I'm on a bit of a "make it up as I go" race schedule due to rotations and unknown call!
