the denim quilt isn't anything special as far as quilting goes-it is entirely sentimental...and cozy.  it is backed with a heavy weight flannel.

mchally - 2008-12-14 10:46 PM And it wouldn't be my room if there wasn't a penguin or two (or twenty) hanging around.

Ever since the movie 50 first dates I have wanted a pet penguin

Not me-they are messy. Have you ever seen a penguin's habitat(natural or otherwise)?  they don't just poop, the ejaculate their guano-there was a study done that actually measured the force at which it came out.  I don't remember the number, but it was ridiculous.  If you look at a pic you will see colorful guano radiating out from the nest in all directions.  I wouldn't suggest getting withing 5 feet of one of their nests.  You'd be in range.

It took me 2+ years to piece the top.  I then sent it out to be quilted by a professional. Ten years later I still haven't finished it...I misplaced the binding.  Undecided

It is one of my dad's favorites-and I think that it is fun too.

here is a frame pic....I'm not sure why the resolution is so awful, but I don't feel like figuring it out.

I made sure to include my quilt in the pic...I don't want to pass up an opportunity to show off how amazingly talented I truly am. Laughing

Did you make both quilts, the one in front and the one in the background?

My mom made the denim quilt in the front...it is entirely from pieces of old jeans that belonged to family and friends.

Being the mathematical sort, mine is the tessellation resembling a boston tea party.

Beautiful work.
Thanks.  Rest well and keep us informed.

Hey Cat... have you had any experiences with the little blues?  I hear that some people compare them to rats in New Zealand.

Mike-Little blues (or Faire Pengiuns) live under peoples homes in Cat's neck of the woods.  The scurry around spreading their fishy guano as they go.

Don't get me wrong, I love penguins, but I am not blind to their faults.

don't feel bad... I started a baby quilt (classic Holly Hobby fabrics) over two years ago... I've got all the blocks done... just need to piece it together and have it quilted... thinking that next year I'm going to finish it... better before she graduates from high school...
Then I've got the fabric all purchased for another one that was born two years ago as well... I'm so far behind

I bet all you need to do is take the machine in for a little rehab work... I still sew on a 1973 singer my mom bought from sears when she found out she was pregnant for her second daughter (me )   NOthing compared to mom's computer monitored "plug and sew" but I can do a lot on it, you just gotta be creative (and careful)

hehe well i inherited mine from my Nan so its definatley not new... not sure how old it is but I would guess 70s at best?

I borrowed one from a work colleague years ago and it was so old it was mounted on a wooden block... pretty sure that thing was a Singer and completely indestructible!
