Bumpski!!  I hope everyone has an excellent next 7 days of training.  I'll be in the UK until next Wednesday - hate to leave when I'm in a pretty good training groove - but work is work.  I'm bringing workout attire - with good intentions - but it's always difficult over there.  I'll log whatever I do get in.  Have a good week!

Have a safe trip.

What's everbody doing?  Sleeping in,  or just hard at work?

I think I'm adding the Chicago 1/2 Rock'n roll marathon to my summer agenda.  Didn't someone do the one in Arizona?  Sounds like quite the party.

I'm doing good.

Have a good time in the UK Malcolm.

Has anyone heard from David I. since the 15th?  I wonder if he did the half marathon and if so how it went.

Hope training is going well for everyone else.

I settled into a solid 195.  My volume is up but weight is very steady here.  Oh, well.

Kinda like Thomas my training volume is up, but the weight is staying steady at 167 for the past 3 weeks.  Jeans are fitting better though so maybe it is not all bad

Yeh, I started lifting so I think I might be better redistributing my weight.

I am also at 153-154, and holding pretty steady there. Despite the upped intensity and mileage I haven't lost too much weight. I think I am at my optimal weight and I feel pretty light on my feet so 153 is were I plan to stay.

When is the Chicago 1/2? Is it later in the summer with the actual Chicago marathon (that would be my guess)?

good plan here, and important to note, when you stop losing the weight and the training volume is there, its a good time to step back and see if it is smart to go lighter (often its not), so smart move on your part.

everyone is looking good so far!

I weighed in last night.  I have stayed at 136.5.   I think I've lost more inches though.  I'm having body fat checked again in 2 weeks.

David, What do you mean by going lighter?

I swam this morning using a float between the knees and focused on the arms.  Does anyone know if this is a good strategy to build my arm strength to increase speed?  I probably need to lift more weights.

Thanks Kelly, I questioned the same thing.  Did David mean lighter in weight or lighter in training?

first, sorry that made no sense. i meant, for most of us, once you hit a point where you are fit, and your body resists losing more weight, its a good idea to try and stay there for a while before attempting to get a bit lighter, if at all. the reason for this is your body has stabalized at a point where it is preforming well, and going under that can be very bad if you go about it in thw wrong ways, health, training, mood, all sorts of issues.

on the swimming, using thep ull bouy some is a good way to learn rotation and not worry about sinking/isolating the arms. however, make sure you do a lot of swimming without it as well, it can become a crutch. lifting at this point will not make you a faster swimmer, it is mainly a tech and fitness thing. look at the little middle school swimmers that look like they weigh about 80 pounds, not much muscle going on there.

David do you know anything about holding extra weight because of the "pumped up" effect?  My legs since I have increased my volume have been kind of swollen or pumped up.  They are that way all the time.  My calves are kind of hard with the skin tight.  That usually happens after workouts and maybe a couple days here and there, but this time they've been like that for about two or three weeks.

My upper body is a bit of the same due to lifting.

When this goes away, maybe my weight will drop.

more than likely your legs are swollen due to the extra training load/shock to your system. the best thing you can do is take a few days and ice as often as you can (anything up to once per hour), and at least a few times a day. if they are staying like that it is deff not a good thing, and means your body is trying to heal something.

hey gojogo,

I have done 3 of the rock 'n' roll half marathons. They are all a lot of fun. Pheonix was great, very flat and fast. Then I did San Jose (which is where I live) and it was a good one too. The San Antonio was nice, but not as organized as it was the first year the SA marathon was a Rock 'n' Roll event. All of them had great bands and the events were a lot of fun.

Good luck in Chicago!

Thanks Schmitty.  How's the biking going?

David,  What kind of info on CO are you looking for?  I have a couple of friends in the Evergreen area and a few in the Denver area.  I'll be headed to Copper Mountain in April for a little snowboarding. My husband grew up in Auroa, and we go there quite often.  Thought about moving there myself but I Lake Michigan and the Rockies are a big toss up.

David,

All my conecctions are in the field of education.  I'm sure there are lots of athletes in CO to train.  Good luck.  Also check into photography businesses that shoot at school athletic events that then put collages(sp) together and sell to parents that high light the season.  They are a very popular here in Michigan.  Parents love that stuff.  Colorado is a state wide disctict that is then divided into smaller sections by county.  I would start with the main web site and the main athletic offices.  If you're interested.  If you are interested in coaching any sport their job postings will be there as well.

 Good Luck.

thanks!!!!

i am going through stuff in any area i might be qualified for, hitting each area as i find it.

i have a few stupid things that would work off the bad to pay bills, but trying to iron things out as i go.

how is everyone doing on the training front? group has been a bit quiet as of late.

i was thinking maybe getting a few day conversation going on each topic of the race, ie, swim, bike, run, transistion. ect.

lets start with bike questions, comments, thoughts this week and go from there?

Ok- Bike Question:

How do you know when to get out of the saddle?  I waver all over when I do this.  How do I stop that?

when to get out is a personal preff, basically when you need to shift around a bit, or when you cannot get the power/speed you need seated.

comfort out of the saddle takes a bit of getting used to, going up hills is the best place to pratice this, and after a bit becomes 2nd nature.
