Veteran 195 San Francisco | Subject: RE: 2nd Annual Merry Christmas to Yourself Sugar!!! I am swearing it off until Christmas day. I've done this in the past with good results, both physical and mental believe it or not. I noticed there is also a no-sugar challenge, but that's just too many message boards for me to keep up with...So, I am just professing to everyone here that I am saying no to all added sugar, refined sugar, and unnaturally occurring sugars in foods until Christmas day. I know this will kick my 15 lb weight-loss goal in gear. If you'd like to join me, feel free. I'm just writing it down so I am accountable in my writing and postings to our challenge here. The timing of this is not coincidental. Let's just say I had a love/hate relationship with a large, iced, chocolaty cookie cake while I was visiting friends in Texas over Halloween weekend. It was a great visit, but I am so happy to be home! |

I get to 138 then bounce right back up. I've been pretty good about measuring my food so I'm thinking it is the amount of calories I am taking in. I know it isn't a matter of the kinds of food I eat as I am not eating any sugar or junk (chips, etc) so I guess I'll go back to the drawing board to re figure my numbers and go from there. ERRRRG! I feel the same frustration, although I can't quite seem to get and stay below 151 at the moment. However, this week, I did the New Leaf metabolic testing, so now I have a solid number for how many calories I burn at rest - 1420. I also got numbers for at what HR I burn fat most efficiently on the bike and the run, what my anaerobic thresholds are on the bike and the run, and VO2 max #'s. So now, I need to figure out accurately how many calories I'm burning in my training. Then I should be able to come up with a more accurate target caloric intake. I love numbers! Now if I can just use them to my advantage..... I would love to find a place here that would do that. I have a rough guesstimate of what my #'s are but obviously I've had to fine tune them so we will see how that works! |

I weighed in yesterday morning at 189 and today at 191, WTF ?????????? Need help....... I have logged my food all week and need help trying to dial in my diet as I am still learning. It would be most helpful to me if I can get some feedback and make some necessary adjustments. My diet goal is 1800 cals a day with a 50%prot/30%carbs/20%fat guideline set by my training program based on calculated BMI. From what I can see Im short on fat cals and a little over on my protien and carbohydate, also I think im taking in too much tablesalt as I am craving it big time. I am not binging or am I eating anything unhealthy, however I am eating white rice in place of brown because I cant stomach brown rice, I would rather eat raw fish guts! All of my workouts are loggged also,I would be thankful for any feedback! Hey Stuart...I just looked at your log and without actually seeing everything you are eating it's hard to say. However, I wonder if you are measuring your food or just eyeballing? The reason I ask is it's easy to put in that you are eating 4 oz of chicken but are you really? Also, like you already mentioned, your protein seems to be high on most days but with that being said, I know that not everything in our logs has EVERYTHING accounted for especially when its a dish type meal. I can't imagine that something as minor as white vs brown rice would make that big of a difference. Thanks for checking Michelle! I use the cheapo Biggest loser food scale I got from Bed Bath & Beyond, Im weighing post cooking and I do all of my cooking myself. Right now I have to measure my portions exact so that Im hitting my calorie count needed and exact percentages of protien/carbs/fat. Im following P90x diet right now and it calls for a 50/30/20 with the 50 % for the protien which is difficult to do if I dont measure everything. I have apparently gained some muscle and probably some water weight, not sure, I will stay on my diet to see if Im just bieng impatient. I thought maybe the white rice because of its high glycemic index was causing a high blood spike, for the most part Im trying to eat low glycemic carbs. I am getting ready to switch to another phase of P90x and my diet will switch to a 40/40/20 ratio. They explain that they want your body to go into ketosis, then slowly add carbs back into your diet as your energy demands increase and your bodyfat is reduced. Again thanks for checking and sorry for the rant. Im just having diet blues I guess! |

Besides, I'm struggling myself and hoping that I was just off on my caloric expenditure so I totally feel your pain! That P90x diet sounds a lot like the South Beach Diet ~ or at least goes along with the same theory/concepts. When do you start the new phase? How long is each one? I've been curious about that program ~ is it home or gym based exercises? If it's home what kind of equipment do you need? |

Veteran 104 greensboro, NC area | Subject: RE: 2nd Annual Merry Christmas to Yourself Weighed yesterday 196 to now 191. Down just a half from last week. Still working at it though. Still taking the iron infusions every week. And now the docs are worried about my blood pressure. Monday at the hospital it was 158 over 115. Insane right? They don't know truly what's causing it. There is no history in my family. I exercise between 5 and 6 days a week and don't eat a ton of salty foods. One theory is that it's a side effect from my past chemo as it had been inching up during my chemo. Prior to chemo, it was typically around 130/83. So now I am monitoring it twice a day and they will make a decision to put me on meds next Monday. |

Expert 1203 | Subject: RE: 2nd Annual Merry Christmas to Yourself Glad to see several of you jumping on the No Sugar and/or grains wagon. I gave that stuff up almost 2 years ago now and feel great. Just cannot find any evidence of it's nutritional value. If you're interested you can follow Dr. Eades blog. I have been following for about as long as I have been low carbing. See link below for a good post about how sugar effects your heart. Stress fracture on right foot is healing and I had a short 3.5 mile run last night. Stayed in the grass to minimize impact which seemed to work pretty good. Although I still have some residual congestion from a cold so breathing was not so good. Either way I was happy that I was able to run again. |

It usually points out the problem areas pretty quickly and I can correct and move on. They have one on this site that is OK but because anyone can add to it I did not always trust the data. |

An online friend of mine suggested this as a possible first HIM so I will be curious to see what you think of it. I am also considering the Iron Man Augusta 70.3 next fall as it also looks to be a good venue.

Expert 736 Longview, TX | Subject: RE: 2nd Annual Merry Christmas to Yourself 153/143.8/135 Woohoo! Down another 1.2 lbs from last week! I was shocked (had to double check!) because my birthday was on Halloween (cake AND candy, ugh!) and it was a busy, stressful week too so mot many workouts. I was preparing myself mentally for a gain. |

I guess it's not bad since I had some halloween candy, but at this rate it's going to take another year to get to 118. Kathy - thanks for the article! I can't wait to read it. I need to drop body fat. I'm not very big, but got the bodpod test and came in at 29%! I'm supposed to retest in December, but I haven't lost anything and I haven't seen any real changes in my composition, so maybe the article will help me kick it into gear. |

But what allot of people dont know is that if you get a drink and limit the sugar and fat, you can add a scoop of whey protien for an extra 50 cents and nake it a great recovery, diet, healthy drink! |
