Subject: 2nd Annual Merry Christmas to Yourself

This 12 week challenge/support group was my first ever challenge last year and it was a huge success for me so I have decided to revive it again this year (I attempted to get in touch with merlyn411 for his OK since he is the one who started this last year but did not get any response so I’m running with it.)  I thought it would be great to start 1 October as that will take those who accept the challenge all the way to Christmas Eve!

What better Christmas gift to yourself can there be than getting closer to your goal weight/goal BF/maintenance goal/whatever YOUR goal? And what better way is there to protect yourself against holiday training "goofing off" and Holiday "gorging" than to lean on a challenge group for support? This challenge will take us through 3 of the big (over)eating holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas…and lead into a New Year where we've given ourselves a head start on the whole New Year's resolution thing.

Anyone interested? If so, lets post our starting weights by Tuesday 1 October and help each other to a Merrier Christmas and a Happier New Year.

No rules Kathy...this is intended to be more of a support group where we can have some accountability, share our knowledge, what works for us, what doesn't and have a place to just come and vent or share our victories along the way!

I'm in... Smile

My goal is 175lbs on Xmas Day, so this is ideal. I started at 210 on 1 Sept and am at 194lbs today. I'll posyt up my weight on 1st Oct as the start of the challenge.

Thans for a great idea!

Welcome Kathy, Jimmy, and Damon!

I just thought I would share where I am coming from...I was never really what I would consider fit (but we are always our own worst critic, huh?!)  However, I learned to LOVE running while I was in the Army and still find it to be my Happy Place.  In Jan 08 my life changed drastically in so many ways.  I had my darling baby girl which left me weighing 198lbs, not working for the first time in my life (by choice!) then 2 months later we moved to HI where I knew absolutely noone.  Needless to say I ran the gammut of emotions: happy, sad, elated, lonely.  I started trying to get back in shape but I am very goal oriented so I needed something to focus on.  Enter ~ triathlon!  I had always wanted to do one and what perfect time to start but when I desperately needed something for ME and here we are living in Hawaii.  I joined BT in Oct of last year and have since ran several races, won my AG in my first DU, finished my first Sprint and Oly triathlons and am now seriously contemplating a HIM next year (how do I pass up the opportunity to do it here in HI?).  Plus, I now weigh 140 lbs.

Needless to say, I still struggle with food (but does that ever really stop when you are trying to be healthy?) and I am totally addicted to the challenges and accountability this site offers.  Like I said before, this was the first challenge I joined last year and it really helped me to stay focused on the bigger picture (not that piece of almond roca calling my name!) and I hope it will do the same for all of you!

I know I joined last year but dismally failed as I went off the rails. I'm determined that this wont happen again so sign me up. I'd like to loose 21lbs for Christmas that may be a tall order but if you don't push yourself you never know what you'll achieve.

I'm keen to be in on this one please. I'm more into achieving a targeted reduction in body fat percentage than weight loss (though that'll be a pleasant side effect)... can I post my target up after a checkup this Thursday (1st) so I have an up to date current figure to start from?
Cheers,
Kevin

No going off the rails this year, Kate...that is why we are here!!!  During the holidays it is hard enough to just maintain so those of us with weight loss goals have our work cut out for us but I know with everyone's support we can at least get a bit closer to that goal!!

Ok, I'm in.

This comes at an opportune time because I decided to start logging my food intake.  I did rough calculations, and to meet my 175lb target weight by New Years, I have to lose about 1.5 pounds a week.  That makes my calorie intake about 1500 cal/day!  Add in workouts and that's about 2100 to 2300 cal/day.  That's going to be tough, but I'm going for it.

It is definitely hard Chris!  I am still doing that one but luckily with each new change and each new day it DOES become a bit easier ~ whatever route you decide to take to get to your goal.  I believe it's about making small changes over a period of time that you can live and stick with!!

Welcome Bruce!!  1-2 lbs/week is what is recommended for a healthy weight loss and to help keep it off in the long run so I have no doubt you can do it.  Yes, the holiday goodies that surround us will make it really tough for most of us but I'm hoping that with the support of everyone here, we will all be successful!!

Please count me in. Starting at 160lbs. Would like to get down to 150 by the end of the year. I would also like to be much better at swimming, have the trainer set up in the basement so I can ride in when it's snowing and increase my running mileage to 25 miles a week.
