Ok so I really want to run outside but it's going to be chilly this weekend. And since I'm a big wussy and don’t want to be cold; I would like to dress warm. Can anyone tell me what should I wear? Thanks a bunch Smile

Oh and tonight I have 4 miles, maybe 5 if I feel up to it... Tongue out

Here's a chart that I found on the Runner's World site a couple years ago.  I'm glad I held on to it, because it's no longer there.  Only recommendations and a starting point.  Modify it as you need to.

P.S.  I also added a wind chill calculator at the bottom of the chart to give you the 'real' temperature.

...and by the way, what other precipitation is there besides rain and snow...hail...meteors...dust...Dorothy's house from Kansas...a cow?  It just made me laugh, but I left it on the chart anyway...

Let me know if you can't pull up the chart, and I'll save it as an older Excel file (xls)

LOL!! Yeah sorry I forgot to mention the cows...  Tongue out Other then rain and snow thats it.
I can’t seem to open the chart you attached, don’t really know why but it won’t let me.

What's the predicted temp and how wussy are you?

It is going to be between 40-45 and rainy all day.
I am wussy enough to know that I am going to need something to keep me warm but not wussy enough to put 15 layers on. If that helps any…Smile

If it were me I'd wear:
light or mid-weight tights
long sleeve wicking top
waterproof/water resistant jacket
light weight hat
light weight gloves

I guess I'm a little more hardcore, and used to a little colder temps (MN).

Underarmour sleeveless
SHORTS! (nothing worse than running in the rain with WET tights/running pants
Long sleeve wicking shirt
Running hat

sparco - 2009-10-08 10:04 AM O.K. here it is in xls format...

With cold weather running, you DO NOT want to dress too warm, because that will cause you to sweat.  If you're wearing technical wicking clothes, you should be ok, but if you're wearing cotton clothes (which absorb and hold on to moisture), in very cold weather, that's just a recipe for hypothermia.  A nice cold, wet layer of cotton acting as a heat sink against your skin...boo...

Good for you for getting out in the cold...don't follow my example...I'll take an indoor track and a treadmill over running outside when it's 10 degrees F...

Sorry I’m a dork I should have read the rest of the replies.
Thank you for the chart.

It was cold today. Only mid 30s. I managed to get in 8.33 miles. This craptastic weather is supposed to last a few days so I better get used to the cold weather gear again.

That sux! Weather like that isn't something you could have trained for. At least you won't overheat! Make sure to keep up with the hydration though as colder temps often fool people into thinking they don't need as much fluid.

Tomorrow I am going to an Elemetary School to run with little kids all day.  Hopefully this year I will remember my Garmin so I can see how many miles I run.

That was so much more eloquent than my response

Actually, Sal, I'm a little more sympathetic on this one than I ordinarily am (please do not confuse this for me getting soft in my old age or my icy heart melting or any other such nonsense)... seems to me I really should only comment on the weather forecast when you sign up for races with words like tundra or frozen in them.  Wait... that sounds so familiar...  (see Sal's sig line for the reference).

Either way, I'm sure you'll do great!

So much fun!!!  I've done that a couple of times at my kids' schools for fundraisers and had a blast.

Hahahahahahahaha.

This is why I *don't* live where you live.

Saturday's forecast for *me* is 75 F. If you need to find me, I'll be out back, wearing shorts and a t-shirt while I sip an ice-cold umbrella drink.

You're lying.   Because when it's 75 where you live, you throw on long pants, long-sleeved shirts, stop using ice cubes and turn on the fireplace...

Actually, I don't. (At least not yet. Give me a little while to become acclimated. LOL)

But a lot of people DO this. The other day, it was 59 F, and I was amazed at the number of people I saw wearing heavy "winter coats."

I'll bet that in a few years, I'll be one of the winter-coat wearers. LOL

Don't be ridiculous... that's the SOP for sub 68 degree weather.  Once it hits 50 we simply stay indoors for the remainder of the winter.  It's makes for a long two weeks.

I have nothing else to say.

If we can send a man to the moon, why don't we still have climate-controlled running suits?

You just need to plan your business trips to the ATL during the winter.  I thoroughly enjoyed MN in the summertime... well, you know, as much as one can enjoy walking between the hotel and corporate .
