ceilidh - 2009-10-08 3:29 PM Anytime you want vegetarian lunch (or other meals) ideas.. just yell.
That is all we eat here.

ahem.

I NEED VEGETARIAN LUNCH IDEAS!!!!!!!!!!!

all kidding aside.

i'd love to hear your ideas/suggestions.

whats good.

your favorites.

things that are easy to make.

non-meat protein sources.

helpful websites, cookbooks, that sorta thing.

im all ears.
stacieb

you can leave me a PM if that's 'easier'.....

stacieb

Am a lazy beans & rice & whole wheat pasta & boca burger girl.  That said, one quick suggestion.....add quinoa to your pantry staples.  In the grains section of Whole Foods.  Good source of protein.

QUINOA.  check.

i like beans, rice, whole wheat pasta AND boca burgers.

and i can be 'lazy' when it comes to food...well.  lazy in the sense.  that i dont want to fuss or fiddle with my food.  just give me a few of the basics, and im good to go.

and QUINOA, is it the sorta thing you use in place of rice/pasta?  [ive seen it,heard of it, but never used it before...]

stacieb

Yep, quinoa is a whole grain but higher protein than rice.  It cooks like rice but quicker.  I add in sauteed veggies, chick peas, spices etc.   Basically, any couscous recipe would work.  It's great as a side for dinner and then use leftovers for lunch.

Planned day off from running.  May do some yoga to stretch out those calves, plus I think leg balance poses actually massage the lower legs muscles (at least it feels like it to me).  Bought some new shoes today since the old ones had alot of miels on them and I've cranked up the mile volume quite a bit.
Have a great weekend!

skrtrnr - 2009-10-08 1:48 PM i'm sworn off of McDs for the very same reason....that and the hideous aftertaste in my mouth that lasted a few hours the last time i ate there.

the fast food industry.  i swear.  they're trying to KILL us!

though....gotta love those McDonaldland Cookies.  and Hot Fudge Sundaes.

mmmmm. mmmmmmm.
stacieb

I have pretty much sworn off all fast food.  I always feel sick after eating it.  I did have McDonald's a few weeks ago after a long night of drinking with some buddies.  Bad decision.

i hear ya.  i had the worst taste in mouth AFTERWARDS the last time we ate at McDs...i told my kids, i  seriously didnt think i could go/i could take them there again.

a long night of drinking+McDs=bad decision nodoubt.

even after eating at some resturants, especially chain resturants.  i feel sick.  the worst was when we were on vacation and we at out almost every night.  not only did i get sick, but my mood was severely altered.  im sooo not kidding.

im beginning to wonder if its the additives and perservatives that the chains MUST use in their food.

because when we go to little local places, that you know they went to the market that morning to buy fresh produce and meat and all, i dont get sick.

does make you wonder, doesnt it?

and i think now that im training for tris, ive become more 'attune' to my body, im certainly eating better overall.

not that im purist by any stretch, i love a good bucket of wings or a milkshake every once in awhile et al, its just when you eat well/healthy/clean 80-90% of the time, and go to put crap into your body, your body REVOLTS.

which, is a good thing, dontcha think?

stacieb

I'm with ya Stacie....we were at one of the kids Dr appt. and the doc asked my 9yr old how many times do we go to McDonalds in a week and she looked at him like he was crazy and said mom doesn't let us eat that stuff!....the only time we stop is when we are on our way out of town and even then it is usually subway!

start em early and train em up right.

in my former life, i would take the kids there at least once a week.  we had a McDonalds line item in our household budget, i kid you not!

what the hell was i thinking?

yikers.

were on a MUCH better path, thank you very much!

KUDOS TO US KIM!

high fives!

that's the plan!

in that order.

good thinkin' lincoln.

stacieb

Well, the pool was out.  3:00 meeting ran 2 hrs instead of the one it was scheduled for and that meant aqua-aerobics was in full swing.  Grrr!!!

aqua-aerobics GRRRRRR.

they take up like 5 out 6 lanes in our pool.

god bless for moving their bodies, but.....damn them all when it comes to needing a lap lane.

sorry your meeting went over.  blasted.

stacieb

I love the rip current they create when they do the circles in the water and you are pushed against the lane divider by their mass movements (literally and figuratively )

seriously.

i thought i was the only one that 'experienced' that.  you too?

such a pain.

but then i think to myself, this just might be good OWS training.  LOL.

like i said, god bless em.

stacieb

Between that and "flipper man" at my pool I'm set for simulating OWS

FLIPPER MAN.  chuckle chuckle.

do you have an older guy that swims laps using a SNORKLE at your pool, NEAL?

cracks me up everytime i see em.

ilucy2 - 2009-10-08 9:53 PM What a day! I was so crabby, I did not lift this morning, figured I would need it by the end of the day worse. Got to the office, and my hair just bugged me, I was so crabby. Called made an appointment for this afternoon. Then I had a strangulation (attempted) case, I was mad at the suspect, I was shaking inside. That has not happened in a long time..being that mad. Calmed myself with candy corn, talked about exercising with a coworker, and felt better. THEN....I went to the hair cutter for a color. She has many awards. Last time, she fried my hair by putting blonde on it 3 times in a row. Now we need color....picked it out, some bright brown a tad of red PERFECT! Until she took the towel off. I thought my kids overreacted, until I saw a lady sitting in the waiting area, and her reaction. My first thought was a nasty looking pumpkin, or one of those pieces of corn you put on the table. NICE....I treated myself to a nice greasy burger....loved it. and it was worth watching the reaction of the people in the resturant. We shall see in the morning.

Pictures or it didn't happen

BTW if you are ever around Buffalo my wife does hair and to the best of my knowledge has not turned someone into a pumpkin before

OH it soo happened, the funny thing is because I was so upset, my HB did not --err could not throw a fit! I do not have the capabilities to post picutres, but if I did, you would all laugh at me. For what it is worth...she felt bad...she said if I didn't stop making my pumpkin comments she would cry. I don't think she has ever done that either, said she hates when it doesn't turn out like she wants!

oh KENDRA.

why am i laughing AND feeling sorry for you all at the same time?

im actually considering getting my haircut really short (who needs hair when its is a perpetual state of WET all the time anyway right?  wet from sweat.  wet from the pool.  wet from the shower)

skrtrnr - 2009-10-09 8:28 AM alrighty.  now to the personal post....

REST DAY today.

i am making a serious/attentive effort to do a chapter in my writers workshop today.  i even wrote it my calendar, like an appointment so i wouldnt be tempted to let others things get in the way, like maybe, uhm, i dunno, FOOLING AROUND ON BT! lol.

im more of a when the mood strikes me kinda of person when it comes to writing, but i am trying to 'carve out' some time to go through the material in the book i purchased, to improve my writing skills (its a really good book....)

so.  that's on the agenda.

and i need to get to the running store (theres one in Cranberry now, can we all say yahoo!)

to buy one of those fuelbelts where you can stuff your stuff into the loops.

i figure im gonna need one for tomorrows run since ill be on the trail and not running the road arounds my neighborhood.  it was easy to drive around to stash my stuff.

when i hit the trail, im gonna be in there for awhile, need to carryin all my provisions.

i few returns to make today - most importantly a pair of running tights i bought.  brought them home and first time i put them on the zipper got stuck and it wont move.  BAH!

ill probably need them to run tomorrow, its supposed to be quite nip.

and i need to do some laundry, sweep the hardwood, clean the bathrooms (AGAIN!!!)

then pizza night w the fam, hang out and just chill.

welp.

my life wont live itself w/out me in it!

so im off!

RUN HAPPY EVERYONE
stacieb

What sort of writing do you do?  I'm sort of a recreational writer myself, just haven't had much time with all the training.

ah thanks for asking NEAL.

i write poetry more than anything else.

if i write something longer its usually personal and reflective.

actually.  when people would read my race reports thats when they would tell me what a great writer i am.  cracks me up.

i think id like to write magazine/newsletter articles, on personal development, sport psychology, spirituality that sorta thing....but who knows, i might just keep it all to myself too.

how bout you?  what sort of writing to do you do recreationally, when your not training?

No guaranties on this! I am already going stir crazy and I went out for lunch!

Hey Kim - sorry to hear about the injury. That's scary stuff. I wish you a speedy recovery.

We were given a 4 day weekend, so I just spent my Friday morning golfing. Considering I hadn't swung a club for over 6 months, I'm VERY happy with the 90 I shot, which included a very nifty little chip-in for birdie from 30 yards on 17. Also, I walked the course for about 4 miles worth of walking. I guess that means I won't be running today, but I'll get some miles in tomorrow or Sunday.
