Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED I'm hoping to squeeze in 12 miles tomorrow morning. We'll see....I do not do well when I run first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, it's the only time for the long run. My husband gets the kids up & makes breakfast. I'd love to get in a long bike ride on Sunday (if I decide on a bike, that is!). I'm looking at the Giant Defy 1 & the Felt F75. Any opinions? How did you go about picking your first bike? |

When deciding on a bike, here is how I rank my decision making priorities: 1. Budget (including cost of accessories like pedals/bottle cages/speedometer/etc) 2. Frame material (largely, this is driven by budget) [Carbon > Titanium > Aluminum] 3. Component level (minimum Shimano 105) [Dura-Ace > Ultegra > 105] 4. Manufacturer (the manufacturer that makes the bike that fits you best) I would go to your local bike shop and ask to test a few rides. Give them a range of your budget so that they know you are serious about buying and they don't end up showing you a bike you won't buy. Good luck and we want to see some bike porn when you're done! |

Is 10 minutes good enough to get the junk out of your legs? I think a 10 minute run is a good starting point. As you get closer, you build up the amount of time you run post-bike. For me, my brick runs will start at 15-20 minutes and I'll get up to 60-70 minutes of brick running closer to race day. |

Unless the brick is part of your training plan, the first few should (1) to figure out how to get your bike stuff off and run stuff on as seemlessly as possible (i.e. don't run with your helmet on) and (2) just long enough to get the wonky feeling out of your legs and run a little warmup. |

Any fun plans? I giving a seminar to CPAs on tax issues in bankruptcy and financial reoganization from 8-12 tomorrow. I am sooooo exciting. will try and hit the trainer for an hour in the morning and, if feeling sassy, again at night, then i'll going to smoke erica and kelly on sunday. BOOYEAH! (yeah right) |

52 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Thanks for all of the well wishes.....Sunday should be fun. Just spent an hour and a half driving home for what ordinarily takes me thirty minutes. NOT FUN. I think I got up to 10 miles per hour on the highway. I'm going to try to hop on the trainer for an hour and a half tomorrow and then I'll probably use my parent's dilapidated(sp?) treadmill. Sunday, I will run with the crew. I did get a 6.5 mile run in before work. It was a pretty good run. I'm looking very forward to sleeping in tomorrow, which for me, means 7 or 8 a.m. Have a great weekend to all. Happy training! |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Did a 2 hour + NIGHT mountain bike ride tonight. Tough to get used to that, with pretty technical, rocky downhills in CT, but what a blast. How accurate is the Garmin in calculating calories burned? I do wear the heart monitor with my Garmin 305, and it showed 1,800+ calories. The training Log here shows 1,400+. MTB is a lot of intervals, climbing, descending etc. Just curious. |

Almost any vegetable can be roasted with a little olive oil and salt. The only things that don't seem to work for me are onions and eggplant. Cut into roughly 1 inch cubes, toss them with a teaspoon or so of cumin, curry, cardamon (or really anything) and road for 30 - 40 minutes. Another easy recipe is just plain salmon cooked in a frying pan on the stove top. I put in a little oil, other people think that you don't need it. There's a BT Cookbook thread somewhere that should be pretty good resource. |

Extreme Veteran 745 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Too cold and icy to run outside today, so I slept in and went to the gym. 9 miles on the 'mill: 6 miles, walk 5 minutes, 3 miles, walk 5 minutes. The break is mostly because the 'mills at the gym have a 1 hour limit and I don't feel like breaking into the menu to override that. |

Champion 5615 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Two and a half mutha-fukkin hours on the trainer. My taint is SORRRRE!! It was an interesting selection of entertainment during the ride. Kel rode the first 90 minutes with me so we watched 30 Rock episodes on Netflix. When she was done and headed out to run, I turned on a Motley Crue concert video. Unfortunately, Kel got back before I was done on the trainer so she ridiculed my choice of energizing music. |
