I am hating the weather!  We are suppose to get anywhere from 3-10 inches of snow here in Memphis! With all the confusion about school closings and picking the kids up early, combined with work stuff, I will be happy to get my swim in before the storm hits. Everyone knows that Memphians can't drive in the snow.

Way to go to the beasts that braved the weather and got outside.

Quick question.  For our goals, should I be counting the warm up and cool down portion of my swim towards my yardage?  I always do a 100yd warm up and 100yd cool down as part of my swim workout and wasn't sure if I should be counting that.  I've only been recording the "meat" of my swim that I am required to do as part of my program.

I am fully counting wu / cd.  Those are good times to be focusing on little details like longer reach or fuller stroke while you are swimming slowly.  Count every lap.
Also, I would hate to start leaving off miles for my 15-20 minute warmup on the bike!

OK, sounds good.  I will have to go back in and re-do my swimming numbers from Jan 1 on then so they will reflect correctly.

Yes, you should be counting them.  But does your program not specify a WU and CD for each swim already?  That seems strange.

Yes, it does, but I have only been counting the main part of my swim workout for some reason when I put it in my training log.  I have no idea why I started to do it that way, but it just dawned on me that I need to take the credit of the wu and cd.  I'm going to blame it on the weather.....and my lack of cheeseburger intake.

Yea, especially when your swims start getting longer!  My WU/CD can add up to 5-700 yards sometimes.  Heck yea, I'm counting that!

Well, I learned a lesson the hard way tonight.  I was strong in the pool, but I did not get enough water today.  I had to walk a good deal of the 35 minute run because my legs were cramping.  I had some diet coke and diet dr. pepper today and not near enought water.  I am so pi$$ed at myself right now.  No more diet soda for me until 4/2/2011 after my race.

Bad workouts happen.  That is what makes us celebrate a really good workout all the more.

I have a question.  Is there a list of what everyone's next race is?  What everyone is working towards?  It would be interesting to know and how soon!

Have a good weekend eveyone and safe training.  I only have a couple more hours today and them I'm done...

Oh yeah, oops.  As for me.  The race my plan is geared for is the "Rage" oly distance in April.  However, I want to do an XTERRA event the weekend before and a half Mary in March.  Those are just "fun" events at this point.

Good question!  Nice to see all of these in one place.  For me:

3/27 - Powerman Alabama (Long Course Duathlon National Championship, 10k/60k/10k)
5/7 - White Lake HIM (trying to qualify for the Long Course National Championship)

Everything else depends on the outcome of these two.  I may throw in a 5k swim just for fun.

Food for thought from Running Times magazine:

Running Watchless
At least a few days a week, decidewhat course you are going to run, and then leave your watch at home. Other days, run whenever, guided by total time on your watch. The thing to mostly avoid is timing yourself over the same courses day after day. That way lies the madness of beating yourself up for running slower than you "should" or forcing yourself to pick it up because you're 6 seconds slower at your 45 minutes into it checkpoint than you were yesterday.

Thoughts?

It's a thought... ^^^^

OR, just don't beat yourself up!    There will be good days and bad days.  Just know that EVERY day you are out there, makes you better and enjoy it.

I run with my garmin every time, but mix up the routes, depending what's on the books...  Do I get disapointed when I get home and my pace is slower than I wanted?  Sure, for about 60 seconds, then I move on to more important things.

As a side note?  Surounding yourself with good/encouraging/positive people, like those in this mentor group, ALSO makes you and your life better.  So enjoy that as well!

Have a good weekend everyone.  Train hard and safe.  Oh, and have FUN!

IM Louisville?  Good on ya mate!  I'm impressed with anyone who does HIM/IM...

But I'm equally as proud to know anyone who gets out there and does this sport, no matter the distance... Get out there and MOVE!

Agreed.  Too many people in this sport forget that it's a sport, it's supposed to be fun.  We do it because we enjoy it.  The vast majority of us are not paying the bills with triathlon, so let's keep things in perspective.

Another thing I wanted to add is that I think most of us are following some kind of plan.  But even if not, or I should say especially if not, we need to remember that, when running especially, we HAVE to incorporate easy days.  As the old saying goes, most triathletes go too hard on their easy days and too easy on their hard days.  I just had to hear this from the coach yesterday when he gave me a Z1 run to do (if anyone doesn't know, zone 1 is 1 of 5 when talking about heartrate, it means REALLY easy).  I thought I would have to walk to keep it that low. I know it's not as fun, but it's necessity for anyone that wants to get better, and avoid injury.

10k for me tomorrow morning.  Looking for a new PR.
