Veteran 593 Mandeville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My long ride is beetween 60-65 miles, but will be doing 80 this weekend. I've also got two 80 mile rides schedule for June and will hit my first (of 6 scheduled) century ride on July 7. Running is a bit different. I had two rotator cuff repairs since IMFLA in 2010 and had to take quite a but of time off so I am really behind where I want to be with my mileage there. My long run will be 8 miles this week. As far as what I will different this time around, I will defintiely work in some more speed work and eliminate some of the junk miles if I start to feel fatigued. |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Catwoman - 2012-05-04 9:13 PM I won't officially start training for IMFL until July. Same here, my focus is on shorter things at the moment, then building once summer hits. I should be taking home a new bike in the next 2 weeks ('12 Blue Triad EX, thanks all3sports!) and am super pumped on getting in a new ride. I began masters swimming again after a year hiatus and my run focused block has just begun. I am excited about training and looking forward to the growth that will happen. Hope everyone is staying happy and healthy in prepping for the big day! |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread DCT76 - 2012-05-07 12:30 PM Duanerice - 2012-05-05 8:41 PM Long run Friday was 12 mi and my bike today was 70. OWS tomorrow will be about a mile. But, I am training for Florida 70.3 in 2 weeks. After that we will step back a bit then start to kick it back up the first of July. I have a few sprints in there before July. Not sure I am going to do anything different this time around. Last year was about as good as I could ask for. I was worried about the run because I only did one 19 mi run and a few 16, 14 miles. When training for a marathon I used to run a lot more than that. But, the run was fine. Actually about 30 minutes faster than I had hoped. Actually I might do 1 thing differently. I won't take my time so much. This time around I'll hurry in T1 and T2 a bit more and push the bike a bit more. enjoy, Duane
i feel better after reading this. i've been a little worried that my coach isn't having me take my long runs out past 18. i've done 10 marathons and i've always done a few 20 - 22 milers as training runs. i'm also right about where are you in terms of training...this wknd will be 67mile bike, 13 mile run. Yep, had me worried last year. But, my coach knew what she was doing. I think it worked because I had such fitness from the bike and swim. When we just run, that is the only fitness we get. Either way it worked and I won't be worried this year. It is just so hard to recover from a 20 mile run. As for century rides, probably 3 like last year but plenty of 80+ mi rides. We actually train by time on the run and bike. No miles. enjoy, Duane |

Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I will be racing Gulf Coast tri tomorrow AM so I will let y'all know ow they do. I plan to run a disc and 404 for IM Florida. I was able to find a good deal on a tubular disc but haven't secured a front wheel yet that's why I'm racing my trispokes. |

Ended up going with an 60/88 combo. You definitely put my mind at ease on the wind factor. Thanks! |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I know that the race is still a good distance away, but this thread has been a bit quiet lately. I guess I'll try to inject some life into the conversation What are everyone's goals going into this race? Do we have anyone in here that is hoping to KQ? What about any AG podium contenders? How about first timers that want to brave an ocean swim and a deceptively difficult course? I am hoping for a pretty ambitious time goal myself (which I will keep private for fear of jinxing myself) and pretty much picked FL since it is close to home (from the Atlanta area). |

This will be my first IM and first ocean race. My goal for the race is to finish under 14. I know it isn't the fastest, but that would keep me on par with my shorter distance races. Even if I don't finish <14 hr, finishing the race will be an amazing feeling and an amazing life accomplishment. My best friend and I set out for this goal 3 years ago (we were taking small steps each year) and to reach it will just be incredible. |

The thing about Florida is that it is very flat: this can come back to bite folks in the end who go out too fast (not to mention its hard to stay aero for that long). We have a ways to go, so I think you can get under your goal time and then some, just do work! |

I think you're in for the time of your life! We've still got several months to train, and you'll be amazed how much more fit you'll get. Me? I'm aiming for something in the low 13 hours. We'll have to see how the training goes. If I can simply run the second half of the marathon that will be an accomplishment. |

First timer here, have goals but i'll keep them quiet for now. Did Rev3 last weekend (was supposed to do GCT, but plans didn't work out) and will do Augusta as a tune up/measure of fitness. Will be taking a vacation in August with an OLY tri in the gulf (Siesta Key OLY) to give me some needed "wave" practice, but doing a couple of other OLYs that are OWS. One thing I need to do is get my room/hotel/condo booked.. Will be running Williams 58s as well, love those wheels! Best of luck all! |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread rev3 is definitely a great event. I did Knoxville last year and I had a blast on the HIM course. Looking pretty similar to you at this point with trying to do a race at some other time in the year to get used to ocean swimming. As far as hotel goes, I have one in mind that would work pretty well. Its a bit older than most others and cheap as hell, but a damn good location |

I believe if I hit my training from here on out I can take 12 hours. I did 12:40 in Lake Placid last year for my first IM. I just did Gulf Coast and it was a reality check for me. I haven't been following a plan or been consistent this year due to house remodeling and work. Luckily the house is essentially finished now and I have till Nov. 3 to focus on training. |

A 12:40 at LP is pretty impressive, I have no doubt you will be able to go under 12 at FL |
