I weighed in at the gym this evening before dinner and I have put on 5 pounds.  My goal was to add 6 pounds of muscle through the winter months.   My waist has gone from a 33 to a 31.   Goal is almost met.   Already I am running fast and biking stronger.       upper leg measured 3/4 inch bigger.   Arms measured 1/2 inch bigger.    Now lets go racing.

This has been a little strange week for me. I did a 50 mile bike ride on Sunday on a very windy day and the route was pretty hilly. The result is that I have paid for it in the way I have felt this week. The fatigue factor is in effect. The running miles are starting to increase, we will see how the body responds. Overall, I am happy with where I am considering all of the other aspects that life throws your way as you all know.

Was down with a cold Wed thru Saturday.  I rested Sunday, then did an AM swim Monday, then spin in the evening.  Ran 6 miles yesterday so back on track for the most part.  Tonight should be spinning plus a short run but I may go to dinner with a few clients so spin may be out, then it will be just a run.

Left work early today, got home and and noticed it was only 4:30 - I have enough time to get a bike ride in before dark.  Quickly changed and jumped on the bike - Great ride. Forgot how good it is to ride mid week.

That would be great but I don't see getting off work early.   Enjoy the ride.

I am looking forward to the time change so that I can start our Tuesday and Thursday rides. I love a good ride after work.

Does anyone have any diet advice or areas I should look for as I start increasing my mileage on the run and the bike? I seem to feel more tired as my mileage is increasing.

last year when I was ramping up for my HIM, I made sure I cut ut as much greasy food as possible, it made me feel even more fatigued.    I also started padding extra protein to help muscles rebuild.   peanut butter in Oatmeal or on a bannana,   with the whey protein right after a ride.    This helped my body get the extra protein but not all in one dose.     Other athletes told me that the fatigue is normal and your body will make adjustments.    I also did three weeks of adding miles then on the 4th week backed off to let my body recover again before adding more mileage.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. I am doing the 3 week build up and the one week recovery, but I have not changed my eating habits to accommodate the extra work load on the body. I probably need to do a meal plan just like an exercise plan in order to make sure I am getting the additional protein.

Thanks again

When I build volume, I tend to snack more. So, I try to focus on having healthy food on-hand when I want it.

My son's 1st birthday is today and we are having a party for him tomorrow. That means lots of time today and tomorrow getting ready. I am hoping for a run sometime tomorrow and a bike ride on Sunday. Just have to see how it plays out. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

No big plans for me this weekend (that I know of).  I need to get in some good runs.  Maybe go for a 10-11 miler tomorrow or Sunday.  Can't wait for it to warm up and the daylight savings to change so I can have after work runs/rides etc.  Maybe this weekend I should come up with some kind of nutrition plan.  I know my eating habits need some serious work.

Well I was going to run a 5k but going to do my 11 miles tomorrow instead and get on the bike Sunday morning.  I need to work on my meal plan as well. More so because I get so bored with things. I dont eat meat only fish so I really need to explore my different options and get enough of it!

Regarding meals:

I'm actually trying out a service called Relish.

https://www.relishrelish.com/

Every week, they give you new recipes. You pick the ones you want to cook, and it creates a pdf of your shopping list and recipes. At $7 a month, it's pretty cheap. There are sample recipes on the site if you're interested. They seem (mostly) well-balanced and they list the nutrition data.
