Long run two nights ago. An easy, short 4.5 miles last night. Felt great all night and felt perfectly fine all day today. I was just standing around in a store an hour ago when my left foot suddenly started to hurt to the extent that it was difficult to walk out of the store without a limp in the area of the peroneal longus tendon (outside of the foot, in front of the heel, even with the arch but to the outside, so not PF). I was wearing flip-flops at the time, so I'm currently blaming the footwear and have put my running shoes on for support. In taking quick test jog steps in the house, I could *probably* run, but I am not chancing it... shutting it down for tonight and my streak ends at 25. I've done enough runs to have already hit 30, so I'm not terribly upset, and I'm hoping that it's just the equivalent of a knot or "charlie horse" and that a night of resting will let me do a treadmill run in the morning. That sucks..hopefully it's just a "cramp". I get weird pains on the outside of my arch - stop, massage and then run and they are fine. I always think it's just a cramp. Hope you feel better - and congrats on the 25 days. |

I don't get out of bed for less than a 20 min run so that's easy! Trying for 90mins tonight down at the beach just a scenic nice run taking it all in and clearing my crowded head.... I don't bite...not sure about LeftBrain. Welcome aboard. Day 28 - stepped it up a notch. 4 miles - 31 mins. Felt pretty good, but I must admit that I am looking forward to hitting my 30 then resting. |

You're definitely doing the right thing in resting. Hope it gets better fast. |

Neither Got in a couple easy runs today. Wondering if I should count a 3rd though. Wasn't entirely running, but was more like "adventure racing" trying to find my garbage can. I don't know what it is with these guys, but had to go down the block and around the corner to find it. I've had to get it out of the lake before (which is close to where it was today). What makes that more significant is that there is also a fence to go over plus 30-40 ft of chest-high weeds & cat-tails to get through before reaching the water. |

Expert 1203 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Day 10, although I missed the 2 mile minimum 1 day thinking it was only a 1 mile min. Oh well, I am starting to feel my legs coming back for the first time since Ironman in August. My plan through the end of the year is still to keep my runs under an hour and just relax a bit but this is certainly making the shorter runs more entertaining. Last Sunday we went to hike a mountainous region of eastern KY, knowing I had to get my run in I opted to run to the top of one of the mountains while my family took the ski lift. It was only a 1.5 miles but almost 1K in elevation gain, I had a blast. |

Muskrat I have been running on my forefoot/midfoot for awhile but my cadence was really low. This was causing me to have leg pains for the up and down from the slow cadence and big strides. Today felt alot better and I noticed there was no bouncing. Big strides in the back or the front? You look like a big guy. I used to think that to run faster I would take longer strides. The problem was that I was stretching way out in front and that was what was causing my "pains". I am not a pro by any means...just sharing what I have learned and what has helped me. I noticed that when I focus on landing my foot under my hips I have no pain (no matter what my stride length is). I also notice that when I want to run faster, I concentrate on the "toe off" and pushing the ground behind me - causing much longer strides. Instead of reaching out in front for a longer stride, I push behind me further for a longer stride. I think of it as if I were trying to push the belt on a treadmill when the treadmill is off. My cadence is pretty much the same whether I am running easy or hard - I just change how long my stride is. Hope that makes sense and is helpful. Again - not a running coach. I can't say that enough. Just sharing what has helped me. If any coach reads this and thinks any of this is "bad" - please chime in. Thanks for the help. Yes I am a big guy, 6'4" 220. I was doing both, long push off followed by a long reach. It felt easy so I thought it was working. Then I would blow up on the run. I started watching people running and noticed the difference between them and me. Suprising after 5 days it is starting to click. Day 5, 2 miles after an hour on the bike |

I think the rules clearly state that if you are going to run near the beach every day you need to do 45 to equal 30. Sorry. Edited by Left Brain 2012-10-13 12:18 AM |

Very happy to have accomplished this goal - looking forward to resting the legs for a few days before my next long run. Congrats to everyone else who has finished this goal and good luck to everyone who is still working on it. This challenge was much more fun that I thought it would be, and I know it improved my running abilities overall. Will post my total miles in my next update. |
