elcaminobill - 2010-10-07 10:32 AM I   If I don't post after the race, you will know he beat me and I have killed myself.

Just to be clear, death is not an excuse I will accept for not making it to B2B.  If need be I will drag your rotting corpse to the start line of the B2B run then kick it all the way to the finish line.  Just in case please make sure to leave your soul with me.  Once the race is over I can turn it over to the new owner (please make sure to enclose a note with name of the new owner as I am not 100% of which direction you will be going!).

Diane, thanks!!

Heading to the Expo today.. Shockingly, feel no marathon nervousness still. Excited about the race!

Well my friends, it wasn't even close.  The young bucks can't hang with the old stud.  My goal was under 1:30 for the entire race, finished in 1:29:47.  The rest of the story is that I stopped to help 2 different people with flat tires and still beat my goal, now, who's your daddy!

My sons time was 1:38:45.

Guess I will still be doing the B2B in November.  Now, back to the Kona race online.

Pete, awesome pics!! Thanks for sharing!

Running Chicago tomorrow! A bit worried about the weather-high of 85... right in the middle of my run. I keep telling myself that if Amy and Billy could do a marathon after 2.4 mile swim and 112 mile bike in worse heat, so can I. HOpe they will have enough water for us (please, Chicago, please learn from 2007)... Think some cool thoughts for me, peeps!

If you consider a Century Ride a finish line, you can add this one...

Short Version:  I came, I rode, I fell, I finished in 9:33...

VERY long version can be found at:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=230165 or in my Blog: http://cardholic.blogspot.com/2010/10/viva-bike-vegas.html

Morning all!
Good weekend overall (except for the Packers).  Got a short ride in yesterday but hammered pretty hard and it was fun.  DW bought me a new TV for my BDay so we watched LSU football on it.  Bigger screen, better resolution, man the cheerleaders, um, I mean game never looked so good!  DW also made a steak dinner for Saturday night and we went out to Outback last night.  Hoping to swim today but have folks from the corporate office here all week.

Diane - congrats on the century but you fell?  Will have to go read the report.

Lena - how did you do?

Conducted a LT test for my run today.  Very hard work, very difficult to complete the test correctly, but I did it.  Avg HR for the 20 minute test, 180bpm.  Have a long 18 mile run this Saturday morning.  Getting ready to hook it up at B2B.

Diane - great report and awesome pictures!! Well done !!

Billy - congrats !!

Lena - anxiously awaiting a report !!

As for me, had a great Thanksgiving weekend at the cottage. Got in 2 x 5k runs (to offset the unbelieveable number of calories consumed   ) and several lovely long walks with DW, DD and our puppy. Stumbled upon a seal when we were on the beach - have seen them in the water before but never right up on the shore.

Freddy - Happy BDay!!!

Hey all!  Just zooming by.  Work has been nuts with production issues/meetings/problems.  Not sure why I have an office as these days I am never in it.  Training is okay, seem to be doing less workouts but longer ones.  Knees have been sore so taking it easy.  I have my first Oly Aqua bike next weekend and am looking forward to it.  Should be fun and hopefully a good warmup for B2B.

Pete, Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Marathon was amazing!!
Here is a little snippet I posted in the log, will finish RR today..

Race start was at 7:30, we started more like at 7:59, by the time the corrals moved down enough for us to run.

Run was amazing. Hard. Warm. VERY warm. But, enough water and when the red-flagged the race, we had fire hydrants opened (so cool!), cops with water hoses, and many sprinklers. I would be soaked from a hydrant, pour 4 cups of water on me, feel good, and 4 minutes later, be completely dry and warm. Insane. But very memorable. 45000 runners and 1.7 million spectators. unbelievable!

Ran with my group that I trained with, and as not fast as I am, I'm one of the two strong runner in that group, so I knew I would blow my time when I decided to run WITH the group and help them finish. For several of the girls, it was their first race EVER (i know, insane). We kept a good pace until one of the girls started slowing down around mile 8, not feeling good... by mile 11, two of them were hurting (IT band issues), so we did several miles of 1-1s, lots of walking, stopped at a medical tent, etc etc. By now, we are 2 blocks behind the race car. Oh boy. But I thought about it and decided it was more important to stick with them and help them finish... just couldn't leave them. By mile 16, the two of them couldn't run anymore and said they'd walk it in and for Lisa, Eric and I to go on ahead. Since they were together, we did.

We really started picking up the pace to catch up to the dang car and just get back in any kind of a race time. Legs didn't want to move by then, but after 4-5 2:1s, things were improving. I just wanted to get to 20-to me, at that point it's a home run.

We were packing it in and doing pretty good, and at mile 23 Eric's knee started hurting sharply. So, we walked the last 3 miles and then ran the last 100 meters across the finish line.

It was hard. And Glorious. And Unforgettable. And I don't for one second regret the decision to forego my goal time and help others. The look on Jeanette's face when she got to our tent with a finisher's medal on her neck told me it was all worth it.

Amazing race. Will do this one every.single.year.

Well done Lena!! Chicago Marathon + Heat seems to be the recent norm. A friend of mine did it last year (or was it the year before) when things were so extreme they tried to get people to abandon the race and many did. Love that you stayed with your team and led them to the finish. Very "United States Marines" of you (and I mean that with total respect!!).

Thanks for the b-day wishes folks. I had a great day - cake and decorations at the office, chinese food for supper and a big screen HDTV in my future from Mrs FBP. This is what I wrote on my blog about turning 50:

"Tomorrow is a milestone birthday for me - the BIG FIVE OH.

Rather than being bothered by it, I can honestly say that I am feeling enthusiastic about turning 50. I have so much to be thankful for:

> a marriage to a beautiful, intelligent, caring, supportive (and long suffering!) woman that has lasted for over 25 years
> two wonderful kids
> fantastic family and friends
> a great job and first-rate colleagues
> the good fortune to have travelled from coast to coast to coast in the best country in the world - Canada
> the opportunity to have visited innumerable interesting places around the world including: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain, Ireland, Holland, Belgium and the United States
> the means to indulge (some of) my excentricities such as triathlon, bagpipes/kilts and bluegrass music
> the blessing to live in a great small city (Fredericton) in an amazing province (New Brunswick)
> an incredible mother who raised three boys, largely on her own, and who at 74 continues to work full-time as a nurse in a substance abuse rehab program
> a father who died far too young but who in his 48 years on earth modelled just what it means to be a husband, a father, a professional and a caring, contributing member of society."

Lena - great RR, had to laugh about the cute apparel comment.

Freddy - congrats, I am only a couple of years behind you and hope to have the same outlook.

Managed a long ride in yesterday but my asthma kicked up and ended it a little early (was hoping for 100 miles and managed 91).  Need to do a little better on the nutrition as on my way home from work I picked up a burger and fries from Burger king.  Probably not the best pre-long ride nutrition but didn't bother me.

I have officially decided to NOT do Silverman AquaBike... it was a tough decision, but I just don't feel like I'm ready to race it - sure I can go for the finish, but that's just not good enough for me... if I was fully prepared to race, and came in last place then so be it... but I don't want to even take 1st place when I'm not bringing enough training to the race... so, I'll save my $$$ and prepare better for next time...

I'm working with a swim coach (I paid for 5 lessons, so I have 3 left) I'm not liking what she's teaching, but I'll finish this out with her, then I'm hoping to join a Masters Swim class...

Now my dilemma - I hope some of you chime in on this - I want to do Jorge's winter cycling plan which starts this week, however, I have the MS 200 bike ride on November 13 & 14... should I go ahead and start the plan and do my long rides on the weekends, or should I wait until after the long ride and be a month behind everyone?

I'll start running again after the MS ride... I figure my cycling time & energy will be cut WAY shorter after the ride...

Hey all!
Just checking in.  Training is going okay, a bit on the lite side as aches and pains have crept in.  Have my Oly aquabike on Saturday which should be fun.  A bit miffed, yesterday someone from the local bike group posts that he has arm/leg warmers for sale.  I email him saying I will take them but can't meet him until tonight at 6:45 (DS has soccer practice at 6:30).  Heading over and decide to call him and he says "already sold them.  Didn't hear back from you so I sold them".   WTH?  What part of I will be there at 6:45pm did he not understand?  Oh well.

Bit of a dilema coming up.  Just received the email about my favorite 10k being held again in Feb.  Since I am looking at doing NOLA again this would be perfect time BUT I haven't been running much.  I plan to restart running in Dec (slow and build up for NOLA) and while I will be up for a 10k in Feb I doubt I can PR it.  Need to beat my ego down and just plan on doing the race.

Diane - I did Jorge's program last year a couple of months after everyone else and I would wait.  To get the full benefit you will push very, very hard (those 10 min intervals at 100% are killer).  I am going to start it in January.

Since it was a rainy icky day, I decided to do Jorge's work-out #1 on the Drainer... first of all, this is the first time I've had my bike on the Trainer, I had to change out the skewer because I didn't like the fit of the original skewer... then, I had the adjustment wrong on the cycleops fluid, so I had my friend adjust it while I was riding... then, somehow, I dropped my chain while riding on the trainer  LOL... who does that???  When I finished the 45 minute work-out I was soaked, and a puddle of sweat was on the floor - GROSS... Still not sure if I'll do the whole program or start it next month... but I had a GREAT work-out tonight...

Oh yeah, another funny thing - It had me going 60+ mph  LOL... I couldn't find the setting to turn-off the speed... I finished 33+ miles in 45 minutes - I'm wicked fast Tongue out

Hey all...I am still alive....sorry I haven't been here.

I have read all your posts and added the finish lines.....I am now less than three weeks from Florida....pray for me....with work I have gotten the long stuff in but the short stuff has really been compromised...it's gonna be a long day folks....did I ask you to pray for me?

You all are doing a great job...keep up the good work....it won't be long before we have new folks as part of our group and you will all be expected to be the leaders you have proven all year that you are.  Keep going.....

Be prepared to follow me online and then after a two week hiatus be all over MAV's site....someone needs to set up a video camera and video the computer feed of MAV finishing Arizona.....the way she has been working I think she will finish in the daylight....you rock Mav....

I am very proud of all of you....I apologize for being deficient in my duties but you have all taken great care of each other.....I am proud to call you all "friend".
