In a rough patch!!

11 Days before USMC I can't seem to get focused!! I am moving out of my house this weekend and in with my inlaws for 2 months as I renovate the house we just bought.

I know I have the fitness I just need to have the Will & Desire to want to run hard!!

Moving in with my mother in law would kill my will to live let alone run.  LOL.  You'll find it man, even if it's not until you toe the start line.

I am sure when you are in the corral with 30,000 other runners you'll find it. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

Calm down, boys  I'm not planning my 2014 season yet (haven't even planned my 2013 season other than IMMT).  I'm just sick of doing ok on the swim and bike and then failing on the run.  I think it's going to be difficult to improve my run speed while IM training, because the bike will take lots of my available training time, and the bike does NOT help my run fitness, IMO.  I think I need a year to really focus on the run, or I'll never be happy with my triathlon performance.

Thoughts?

**edited to add:  along these lines.....if you were me, would you do 2 HMs this spring (march & may) OR would you do 1 HM (march) and 1 HIM (june)?  I figure if I really work on the run this spring, I may have shot at being successful at some of my olympics this summer.

I know how difficult it is to deal with a new house/selling house during training, as I went through the same thing a month before my first HIM.  Just have faith that you have done the hard work.  The rest is gravy.  11 days is nothing, Jeremy!  You're solid, and you're going to have a great race!

I'd go the HM/HIM route.  Personally I think you'll get in plenty of running in the lead up to IMMT.  In fact I'm pretty sure you'll be tired of it by race day.  IM running is a totally different animal than running at any other tri distance anyway.  I know folks who have BQ'd that just look to hold 10 min miles in an IM.  In this vein I think that if your goal is to have your best time at IMMT that maybe your focus shouldn't be on the speed necessary to smash the 10k of an Oly.

Take my advice for what it is worth...I have noticed some nice gains while preparing for the MCM. I have dreaded the amount of running because I really enjoyed the different disciplines of tri training. Take this past weekend for instance, I was running just to have fun and run with the team. I chatted it up almost the whole race with a running partner and next thing I knew I set a PR. I can't imagine how well I would have done if I actually raced. I think any focused workouts help and some run focused would help you.  Just my two cents probably worth about half a cent

Thank you for responses, Scott and Larkin.  Scott's right in that I don't have to run fast to run the marathon portion of the IM.  LOL  I'd consider myself lucky if I were able to pull off 10s for the entire marathon with the way I run  It would be much cheaper to do the 2 HMs, but it would be more fun do another HIM.  Only problem is that I'm not sure I'll be in HIM shape in early June.  I guess I don't have to make a decision right now.  My thinking was along the lines of what Larkin said.  A run focused spring would help me all around, with the 10ks AND the marathon.  Decisions, decisions

You've done the work.  Just relax for the next week and half.  You'll be able to run hard once the gun goes off.

The run is tricky.  More running is generally better but running also takes a huge toll on your body and there's a fairly high cahnce for injury.  Everything in moderation (I know that's a tough word).

I was asking for advice on which racing option would be better for me in my spring training/racing leading up to my first IM, because I'm not sure what's best.  I have never done an IM before.  I think Scott has some good points, and I am leaning in that direction.

No, moderation isn't such a tough word, and I believe it has its time and place (like the last 6 weeks for me).

I wish I had a plan for 2020  I am a planner.  I don't have anything past Thanksgiving either, Scott.

Mmmmmmmm....... sushi.  Unfortunately pregnant Cindy = no sushi for Scott.  Boo.

Swim, core, extensive stretching session today.  Off day tomorrow, but we do find out the sex of the baby tomorrow so that's fun.

She thinks it's a boy.  I'm just assuming it's a girl until proven otherwise.  This baby doesn't move very much and it is FREAKING her out.  She's had one miscarriage and she watched a show last week where someone miscarried at like 30 weeks.  I'm hoping tomorrow provides some piece of mind.

She could have an anterior placenta, which makes it harder to feel movement (thick part of the placenta is toward the front of the uterus).  I had that with Gordon and Frederick (and had my fair share of losses, which only make the paranoia and fear worse).  I hope the appointment provides your wife peace of mind.  The worrying is torturous, and I'm sure it stresses you out as well.
