I think because S/B/R is so straight ahead there is very little development of leg aduction/abduction muscles, and with hockey it seems those must be heavily used since I am SORE in the in and out parts of the my legs and hips! Good news from the doc and the PT today ---I can start riding -- easy-- but its a positive step. Back into the pool next week. Looking forward to training = and I'm glad I can start now - have a good winter base - and be ready for next year. That's great to hear Paul! I'm glad to hear you are taking a very smart approach to getting everything back on track again. Many people, speaking mainly of me, don't do things the right way when trying to come back. Slow and easy will provide all kinds of benefits. |

![]() Catching up! Been a little under the weather with a cold this week and my internet time has started going towards Christmas shopping. I have not been running as I allow the swelling in my left foot posterior tendon to recover. It is much better, you can barely see any kind of a lump and I'm not having any more pain up into my leg. I did some reading this week and I do not think it is a cyst but the beginning stages of tendonitis - just like what happened in my right foot. Of course everything says to wear orthos, which I have tried but they irritate my good/right foot! LOL - figures and which I honestly believe set off the tendonitis in that foot to begin with. I have an older pair that are only 3/4 long that I will try next. I never had these tendonitis issues with that pair (but lots of ankle rolling). I'm actually wondering about a pair of Newton motion control shoes for running with no ortho as they have a low drop but the stability. It is a 1 hr 30 min drive for me to get to a running store where I can try them on so we'll see. I'm back to the drawing board I guess. Swimming is going good though and my back is still doing well so I am happy about that! Thanks for listening |

Swimming is going good though and my back is still doing well so I am happy about that! Thanks for listening Dina, it may be easier for you to order shoes through one of the major online sellers. They all have a great return policy. They know you will run in them and perhaps not like the shoe for whatever reason and will accept an exchange for 30 days. I always try to do my first run in a new pair of shoes on the treadmill so that if there's a problem with them I can return them in like-new condition. Might be easier than a couple of 90 minute drives (and gas money). Keep looking for that shoe/orthotic combination that you can make work. When running with the orthotics started the problem on your right foot, do you think it was from pressure from the shoe pushing on the spot? If so, contact pressure can be solved by using a bunion pad or by cutting out some material in that area of the shoe with an exacto knife.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jgerbodegrant - 2012-11-08 5:01 PM Air source is a floor pump....although talking to a buddy of mine, I think I need an air compressor??? I got your message. I'll give you a call. Thanks buddy! Jonathan, I think it's impossible to get a tire to seat itself with the air flow from a tire pump. I happen to have a large air compressor for my automotive work, but I have also succeeded using my CO2 inflator. Sometimes it doesn't work and I use up 3 CO2s, but I bought a big box of the 12gram cartridges for use with air guns from the sporting goods store and it was pretty economical. This is just speaking of the initial seating of the tire of course. After it's seated on the rim you are fine to inflate it with a floor pump from then on.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had an amazing long run today. I haven't run far enough for a couple of months to make me feel like I am doing anything other than playing hamster. All the short distance stuff seem so mentally challenging to me because I have logged so many miles over the past few years that running 2-3 miles for most of my runs left me feeling like I wasn't really doing anything. I know I was doing the best thing for my body but it was, and still is, very challenging knowing I can go much farther on my legs. I ran 10 miles but I did have a little bit of pain over the last 4 miles. The pain seems inconsequential while running but I do wonder about how things will feel as the day progresses and then tomorrow. Last week I ran 8 miles for my long run and my foot felt really good the next morning. There was no pain or inflammation that I was able to notice. I then ran 5 miles with Brenda at her race and then later in the day my foot wasn't nearly as pleased with me. The trouble seems to be minor on some days, major occasionally and nonexistent on other days. Most of the time it is very minor and I have no problems at all. I feel I am on a slow mend and that is fine with me so I can be mentally and physically preparing for my mid April dance. |

Dirk nice run today, glad to see you were able to get some distance in and are no worse for wear. Hopefully you continue to get better. I got my first run in since the 10K only did a short 6.5 miler but it was really nice to just go out and run with no purpose. No triathlons or marathons to worry about, no thinking just running. Will try and get another short one in tomorrow morning as the weather is supposed to be 60 degrees. I would love to take advantage of that. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ridiculously warm for November weather here! The noon hour just hit and it's 63 degrees! I was able to get out for a run, but I don't think I'll be able to get around for an outdoor bike ride... but I'm thinking that's okay because it's also windy, and I don't need to go through that kind of mental battle! I'm also very excited to get back to swimming! After last night I was thinking I want to swim every day! Tracy, 45 miles, wow! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tracy way to go on your cold weather ride. Not sure if I am up for that but if it stays warm like it's been the last few days I may give it a try. Also nice to see to you sign up for your first race next season. Samantha good to see you take advantage of the warm weather and same here it's 61 degrees right now. When I ran yesterday it was 55 degrees. I wanted to get up early and get another run in this morning but I opted to sleep in. It was nice to catch up and get 10 hours sleep. I think it's supposed to be around 60 tomorrow as well so I will probably pass on my swim and take advantage of the nice waether go out and run. Hope it lasts for a while. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tony, hand how are things progressing in NY from the storm? I have the book Total Immersion and I like it. I'm constantly referring to it. Like Jeff posted, get air from the side and don't lift your head to do it. Get someone to vidoe you because most folks see themselves one way and the camera shows another. Now sighting is a problem for me as I drop my legs when I raise my head to site. Now remember, I am the weakest swimmer in this group! And talking about swimming, I'm envious of all ya'll northern folks, our pools are not heated here and it is to cold to get in. I haven't swam in weeks...yikes Tracy congrats on the biking and all the swimming! Dirk, glad the run is progressing. Paul, glad the PT has you riding again! Jeff, so glad you are progressing so good, you are doing amazing! Wife's BT group closed and she is looking for another so if anyone knows of one for a real newbie, let us know. I had a good run yesterday and was planning on a long ride today but strained my back digging up roots and bushes. No way could I get in the drop position...Maybe tomorrow! And I did get some long running pants.... thanks for ya'lls advice. karl |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Karl thanks for the swimming tips and I agree with you. I pretty much have a handle on what I am doing wrong and have taken steps to correct those things but as you know it is much easier said then done when it comes to swimming. Patience and persistence are the keys to getting better so I am sticking with it and working on it. I also am a proponent of TI and have been employing some of those techniques to help me improve. As far as things going on here thanks for asking. Things are getting better for sure. No more long lines for gas things seem to be a lot better here in Eastern Long Island thankfully. Also LIPA the power authority has gotten many people restored. They are down to about 107,000 without power. It is a shame that there are still that many without power. LIPA has been totally unprepared and mismanged for years. The biggest problem right now is they are not communicating with the public so people are very angry and fustrated. Public relations for LIPA is terrible they are just ignoring people. Most people here want the governor to step in a fire the CEO and his entire management team. They actually do deserve to be fired for the way they have handled things. The men and women in the field working for LIPA have done an awesome job in getting power restored. There have been so many power companies from around the country here on Long Island and we are thankful that they are here and working hard to help out and get power back to everyone. Unfortunately the damage was so extensive that some people may not get there power back for weeks still. Plus you still have many who lost there homes and much of their belongings. I think it's going to be a long time before things really get back to normal but I think things are moving in the right direction. Edited by strikyr 2012-11-11 4:29 PM |

I think it's going to be a long time before things really get back to normal but I think things are moving in the right direction. I know exactly where you're coming from Tony. A storm of this magnitude is going to have so many long term affects that most people will never see. People losing their entire lives and possibly their livelihood as well. It is a very sad situation. What's worse is that there are hundred of people out there that are taking advantage of these people in their need. From the power company perspective, there is so little that can be done when every company around the area has taken resources that can be used every where. There are only so many linemen and companies to provide them. We also have to make sure we don't leave ourselves naked while everyone is out of power out east. I know that our distribution line group here in Ft. Wayne is at a 25% operational force right now. If we have a minor storm people are going to be on edge waiting. Hopefully things will get picked up sooner rather than later and as many people as possible will be able to pick up the pieces and get back to normal soon. |

Yes, that was December 2010 to be exact. HAHA. Yes, I have just started back to swimming, so I'm trying to take it slow. In the upcoming weeks I'll be aiming for 3 times a week, mayyybe 4... I haven't gotten so far as to figure out the details of what types of swims these will be... But, for now I am minimizing the intensity, and focusing more on getting the distance in, perhaps with a couple comfortably hard 50s or 100s thrown in there. Actually, I have been doing it more based on time, as in how much distance will get me to 30-40 min, etc. It would be nice if in the not-so-distant future I have a string of swimming 4-5 times per week... and/or a string of 10K weeks. (Before I encountered problems when I ramped up to 10K too soon I think.) |
