Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! Official HIM training started yesterday. Except for the run portion the HIM training seems so much easier this round. Going to build the run slow but its going okay so far. So, how is everyones training? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am finally back on the wagon. Training has started strong. My real goal this year is to stay healthy all year long. Oh yeah, and finish IMKY. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, officially kicking myself. Finally got around to checking out IMFL. Turns out Panama City Beach is only a 6 hr drive from my house. I should have tried to sign up for 2011! Oh well, may go volunteer in 2011 and sign up for 2012 if Redman goes okay. Talked to DW and told her I am saving up my lunch money (basically cutting out a lot of eating out at work) and will sell my bike in April after my HIM and will buy a new(er) bike. Can't say she is thrilled with the idea but didn't complain. If all goes well in May I should have a new bike if I can sell mine. My dieting has been working and have lost weight. Down to my weight I was at during my peak running days. I am trying to lose another 5 lbs then stay there. Not eating at Burger King is helping a lot! John - good luck on your training! |

![]() | ![]() Gary, I think IMFLA still has community slots available. Check out the IM website |
![]() ![]() |
Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Is that the same as the foundation slots (at $1150)? Either way I paid my money for Redman and not sure I could convince DW on 2 IM distances in 2 months. Ran 4 miles yesterday. Longest run in months, felt good but I pushed the pace more than I should have. Plan is to build slowly and introduce a 4/1 or 3/1 run walk once I hit 6 miles. 8 miles will go to 4/2 and will probably max at 10-11 miles in March. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Yes it is the same thing( Community/ foundation slots). IM 's are not cheap!!!!! I love the run :walk. One of the things my coach had me do for longer runs over 13 miles was run 7, bike one hour then run another 7. I did this up to the total distance of 20 miles. I did one 20 mi run straight just for my mental piece of mind. His thought on this was to build my endurance while decreasing the load on my joints and keeping me injury free. I have to say it worked really well. It made for a prolonged workout but it kept me healthy and running to the finishline! Thiose longer runs can really take their toll on your body. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Mav, yeah IM's are not cheap but I will wait for 2011 for FL. Good idea on the run/bike/run training. Billy mentioned getting a coach for next year and I am thinking about an online coach for the full. My goal is simply to finish without destroying my knees. May be I will just post a whole bunch of question to a mentor group full of IM or potential IM finishers. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We are rapidly becoming a group of IM finishers....think how impressive that will be to new mentees.....smile.... Hey, as I told Gary, you should all consider being a mentor.....BUT...that doesn't relieve you of your duties here (are you lurking Dan?)....you must keep coming in here regularly. We will bring in a few new folks so you can get your fix of mentoring that way too....you are all smart and you know what I would say so you can guide anyone..... Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know we talked about a January Challenge but I am also thinking about a 12 Days of Christmas Challenge....what do you all think???? Here's what I have in mind....on Dec 14 we do an exercise....that's the First Day of Christmas....then on Dec 15 we do another exercise and then the one from day one....that's the second day.....then on the 16th we do another new one, the one from day two and then the one from day one.... Obviously I will keep the duration reasonable as I want you all to have time for family but maybe we can keep the pounds off....and keep working out....I am thinking on the 24th and 25th giving you the option of doing the total workouts anytime over that weekend.... I have a couple of workout ideas but would like some ideas.....I am thinking push-ups, planks, crunches, lunges, a run, a bike, and so on....the run would be reasonable (but to be reasonable would have to be early so you would run for several days (or walk if you need to) and the bike will most likely be the 12th day so we only do it once.... What do you all think? B |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reindeer Run done.....I rocked the San Antonio River Walk.....haha...it was a fun run...one green shoe, one red shoe..... |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK....so I am assuming someone is going to do the Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge so here is the first few days.... The first day of Christmas is Tuesday an it is a ONE MINUTE PLANK.... On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me a TWO MILE RUN, and a one minute plank... On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me....more to come.... So - on Tuesday you do a one minute plank....then on Wednesday you run two miles and do a one minute plank....then on Thursday you do.... |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LRR - I am in for the 12 days of Xmas. I am on week 2 of my HIM training plan so will balance the two. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Greetings all from the Great White Soggy North. We are experiencing torrential rains here at the moment and unseasonably warm temps. Last week it hit -15c on a couple of mornings but today the temp is expected to hit +12c. Crazy. I am going to step up and try a 12 Days of Christmas challenge. Today I head back to the pool for the first time in months. I fear I will drown! On the weekend we finished our basement mini-makeover. Mrs FBP got rid of all the accumulated junk, repainted the entire room, reorganized existing furniture, bought some new-to-us chairs and coffee tables, etc. It looks fantastic and is now ready for the new flat-screen TV (my 50th bday present that I have yet to purchase). Got my bike set up on the trainer and so I'm ready to recommence pedalling during the 12 Days Challenge. I changed out the back tire so as not to wear out the one I used on the road this summer/fall. Man, I absolutely HATE changing the back tire. I swear at the end of it I was covered in chain grease up to my elbows. Arrggghhhh. 'Twas a busy weekend - purchased, set up and decorated the Christmas tree plus all the household decorations. When I'm doing it I love remembering how and where we aquired the various items. My most cherished possession is a wooden sleigh with a reindeer that attaches to it. There is a Santa to go in the sleigh and a number of tiny wrapped gifts. My grandfather made one for each of his 3 kids in the late 50's and now the one that was my dad's is in my possession. Quick poll: for those of you that celebrate Christmas, how many of you use a real tree vs. an artificial? Gotta be real for me! Also on the weekend I had my weekly piping lesson Have a great day y'all. FBP |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love the 12 days of Christmas challenge - can I share that with others? I'm not sure if I'm ready to run 2 miles every day - but I will switch it up with walking and/or walk/runs... I'm in the process of setting up goals for next year - I was just looking into the posted Local Triathlons - I want to be able to do the Olympic Distance... I'm still worried about running and I'm worried about my motivation - if I sign up for the races now, I get a discount, but they are still pricey - and with my history of running related injuries, I'm hesitant. I think a good coach should be able to train me without me getting injured... I contacted a Local Coach, and he hasn't gotten back to me about if he feels he can work with me... What's wrong with coaches? This is the 2nd one I've contacted that sounded interesting, then when I say when can we get started, I never hear from them again - WTF??? (excuse my language) At least for the next 12 days, I have a good challenge that I can work on ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in for the 12 days. So 11 straight days or running? I'm still in. I'm with Gary here, it's too quiet so I will do my best to post something as much as possible. Survey: Real tree. Had a fake tree growing up and once I moved out, I said I would never get a fake tree. Real tree since 93! Finally got back running with my Sunday running crew. It's been 4 weeks since my knee surgery and still feels pretty good. I am signed up for Louisville IM this year. My goal is to stay healthy the entire year and to finish. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - have you considered either Aquabike or Relay teams? Usually pretty easy to find a runner for a relay team. I had a blast with the IM relay team. As for survey: this is a source of contention in our house. DW hates the effects of a real tree (clean up) so we have a fake tree. Every year I buy a small real one for my office at the house. Love the smell. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary - there's not very many local AquaBike's - the only one that was offered last year will not be offered this year as the Company putting on the race is hosting the International Full-Distance Triathlon finals, so he canceled the AGers race ![]() As far as the Survey, I've only ever bought 1 tree in my life - and it was a REAL tree!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So much to say, so little time. 1. The guy doing planks on Gary's thread, that's not Gary. Just thought yall might like to know that. 2. I have been on injured reserves since the B2B. Severe anterior tibial tendinitis, (thats the front of my ankle) 3. I am in for the 12 days of Christmas (some how), just wish we could start the running part a little later in the 12 days, remember I have anterior tibial tendinitis. 12 days of running is going to be tough. 4. I have an artificial tree and would not have that if it was up to me to put it up. Many years ago, I put up a tree (artificial) and strung the lights on the tree perfectly so that I could dissassemble the tree without taking the lights off every year. 3 days after Christmas, my wife gave the tree to her little brother for him to use the following year. I told her that that would never happen again and I was right, it hasn't! 5. I was asked to be on the board at our local YMCA, and I can't even sing the song! 6. Tonight, I will try to post the reason that I haven't been posting and or logging. (new house) 7. Follow this link, just bought the ironman gps watch for my son and son-in-law for Christmas for 127 dollars each! 177, but you get an additional 50 off at checkout. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003P67HV6?tag=powermultispo-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B003P67HV6&adid=167BAHWKDMVV4CRGJ96N& 8. That is all fo now.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Billy - that watch looks AMAZING... I'm wondering if it actually measures distance in the open water - and/or in an outdoor pool. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Buddy of mine has it and says he uses it in his pool. Has to be better to use than my garmin 405, although the service from garmin has been amazing. |
