Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL I ended up really dehydrated and sick over the weekend. Not a good combination in the heat and when trying to train. I've got my MS150 coming up this weekend and it's supposed to be in the 90s. I'm starting to over-hydrate now so that it's not a problem this weekend. Great job on the race, Kelli! Hills can make it so much more challenging. Please let us know when you post the race report. Robert, hope your race this weekend goes well and the weather cooperates. It looks rainy where you are now. Is it supposed to clear up by the weekend? |

Expert 1144 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL Yeah, we have had rain every day for the last week, or so it seems. It's been weird - rain and sunshine both in the same day for a week. It's confusing, I tell you! As for the weather this weekend, there is a chance for some rain on race day (saturday). I hope not...for my wife's sake!!! She's running the 5k. I'm doing the 10k, but I don't mind getting wet. I ran a 5k last September in pouring rain and it was so much fun. Not a dry spot on me! |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL Hey, could you send some of that rain our way when you get a chance? We sure could use it. I'm glad you are feeling good for your 10k, rain or shine. Should be a great kickoff to the racing season, eh? I am not sure where my current direction is now that I have finished my triathlon. I know that I am planning on taking it next year, so I will continue to train. I should probably search to see if there are any other semi-close sprints later in the season. I was so focused on the Virginia Run that I haven't looked past it. A friend of mine is suggesting that I train for a half marathon in September (the Rock and Roll half marathon in Virginia Beach - I know you have heard of it, Jen). I am tentative with my knee complaining so fervently during the race, but I am going to start doing a few runs and cross training to see how I am feeling and get my body back in the training rhythym. If everything holds together, I may start the half marathon training plan in a week or two. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL Welcome back!! I did the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon last year. It was really hot and really crowded. I think I'm going to do one of the less crowded ones this year (there is usually one in Richmond on Labor Day). If Richmond isn't too far away, the Richmond Sprint Tri is on August 26th. It's a pool swim. I'm planning on doing that one. |

Regular 90 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL When is the Rock and Roll Marathon??? I know I am not ready for a full marathon but I am looking for a 1/2 one to do in the fall. I am signed up for the Army Ten Miler in October... me and 23,998 of my closest friends. Running in the rain would be great with all this hot dry weather lately. I would take it. |

New user 15 | Subject: Artemis's group - FULL I was in this group for the first few weeks when it started - somehow I lost track of the link and couldn't figure out how to find it... anyway just wanted to say that I did my first sprint triathlon yesterday - race report at my blog, jennys-tri-di.blogspot.com. I FINISHED (3rd from last!) after having a major panic attack during the swim - I went boat to boat (they don't disqualify you for hanging on for a few minutes) and recovered enough to do the rest. It was HOT, humid, and I think I'd exhausted myself so much on the swim that I had NOTHING left on the run - I probably didn't eat enough Gu either! I'm not sure what to do now - if I can overcome this fear of open water there are many more tri's I'd like to do this summer! I'm giving myself a day to think about it! I hope everyone here is on track and doing well! Jenny |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL I did my MS150 ride this weekend. Yesterday went really well. It was challenging and hot, but I survived and made it through. There were some really monster hills on the route and I made it up all of them without walking! I was really really excited about that. Last night, my muscles started spasming a lot, so I was pretty concerned about riding today. Plus, Tropical Storm Barry hit our area today, so there was lots of rain. I decided not to ride today because I was really worried about getting sick or crashing. I know it's the right decision (especially because I was in urgent care today for electrolyte problems), but I'm still feeling really bad about it. I feel like I should have sucked it up and went for it anyway, but that isn't the smart decision. It's really frustrating. |

Regular 90 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Artemis's group - FULL Welcome back Jenn. It is nice to hear from you again. Congrats on your first completion. At least now you know what to expect. Sorry to hear about the swim. You might want to think about a swim belt. You wear it and when you have trouble there is a string to pull to inflate a tube around you. It might give you some confidence. |

You made the right decision but it can still be frustrating. There will always be another race or opportunity but there won't be another you. Good to take care of yourself!!! |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Artemis's group - FULL Welcome back, Jennny! And a big Congratulations on completing your first tri! I beat you by just a few weeks. Luckily I only had a little pool snake swim to ease into my triathlon career. I totally don't envy you going on an open water swim your first time out! How is everyone else doing so far this season? Everyone's body holding up? Jen - I think that I am defintately going to run the Richmond Sprint in late August. It isn't very far and would be something to be focused on the rest of the spring/summer. I'll see you there. - Dave |

I think it'll be fun, but we start at 6:00am!!! Yowzers, that's early! At least I'll be done in time for breakfast! LOL! |

Do you feel ready? IF at all possible try to ride the course before the race day. Believe, prior knowledge helps out tremendously. |

Expert 1144 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL Even though my cycling volume is not where I'd like it to be, I feel very confident I'll have a good experience at the tri. I know the general area of the bike course, so it's not too hilly. I'm looking forward to it with much anticipation, and I hope to get some good rides on the bike in the next two weeks. This last week was worthless for riding as I had the Corporate Challenge track meet and getting things ready for my in laws who are in for the weekend. These next two weeks look a lot better for training! |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL Riding the course ahead of time is a really good idea. I wish I had done that before my first tri. If you do, try to think about where you'll have to work the hardest (hills) and the places you can take it easier a little. I try to think about how I'm going to pace the course. Remember that you'll still have to run afterwards. jcdenton2000 - 2007-06-10 9:30 AM Even though my cycling volume is not where I'd like it to be, I feel very confident I'll have a good experience at the tri.
