Ha. I'd challenge the guy who wins to do 100 pushups with MY body and see how they do.

OK - I have been a little off the beam lately and a little tired sorry for the lack of inspires...but I am back.

Holly - Ready for Hawaii - you paying? That is the only way I am getting there....unless I do a Forest Gump run to CA and then a Forest Gump swim to Hawaii.....but is is nice to dream.

Today it is in the 50's....woo hoo...bike outside......

Push-ups and sit-ups----I think we need a baseline for everyone and the it should be a percentage over the baseline......if we follow the six week program we get an end date and whoever has the largest % over the baseline wins......

We need a start date and an end date......

Thoughts?

I like your idea much better!   I think you should be able to pick knees or regular pushups and then just stick with that for the entirety. And as for situps...are we doing full situps...not crunches, right?

Also...(me, full of questions)....I've always been confused about this part...when you do the initial test and subsequent tests, you are doing max reps...meaning you go to failure and it has to be consecutive, right? Especially since there is no time limit.

Glad to see you back Bruce. What counts is that we are all here for each other, whenever and wherever we are.

Ok - here is the challenge -

Pick your poison - Push-ups real or with knees &  situps or crunches any way you want just need to be consistent. Number of each in 5 minutes, push-ups and sit-ups do not have to be back to back - you can take as long as you want in between or even on different days.

Everybody provides a baseline  how many of each you can do in 5 minutes- We all get our baseline in as soon as we can to Dud? No later then Saturday 13th.

Then we go for  about seven weeks - so end date is May 1st - nice clean date? The person with the largest % increase for both wins-----what do they win?  Trip to Hawaii paid for by Holly?  Haha

Hows that sound? Who is in?

oh my god you bunch of sadists as if training for this is not hard enough with out sticking in an ordeal to hell and back.

okay got that off the chest. of course i will be taking part. I have to say in all the years i used to go to the gym i hated doing both of these, probably why i am appalling at both.

so 5 minutes on each to set a standard. please dont think I am cheating when the numbers come in low to get the biggest gain, that is not in my psyche to do. Im doing Tri's to improve my own fitness and find a new direction for recreational sport i can doon my own

good luck to you all I will post my result during week

I feel spring is in the air, we have a beautiful high pressure over us delivering clear blue skies if not a little chilly at present. Bike time again

Why?

I am a real push up girl.  I find the knee ones just as challenging as the regular do I might as well do the regular.

I think 5 minutes is a long long time.  My monthly strength testing is only for 2 minutes and I am dying.  I'll definitely be in though.  I could use some core fitness.  I HATE crunches and push ups so this will keep me honest.

Yeah-I think 5 minutes in hell is way too long. How about the 2 minute deal? 2 minutes pushups-the most you can handle...count 'em up...and 2 minutes sit ups-all you can do...count 'em up!

Also, pound for pound, females carry proportionally more body fat, have larger tushes, are stronger in lower body and weaker in upper body (comparatively) and produce less testosterone, therefore having a harder time building overall musculature than a comparative male. Or so I've read, anyway.

Bottom line: We can still kick your behinds. It just takes us a lot more work.

[Edited for a more acceptable word for what we can kick. ]

Jo, I wish I could be a real pushup girl. I might do that for our group challenge. It's something I've been working towards for Crossfit. I most certainly can't do the workouts with real pushups, so it's knees for me there.

I'm going for the 2 minute limit....I will post mine by the deadline. I'm not sure when I'll be doing it. Have to do it on a non-Crossfit day...which would be today, but I'm toast right now and just not mentally ready for anything.

Although quite funny, my Double-D's would have to disagree.  The push ups on knees work the muscle groups differently.  To me they are just as much of a b#tch as the regular ones.  I guess its personal preference and I say that the men should also be able to try it on their knees if they so choose.

Ok-so we all have our bodily challenges...push ups-with or without knees, beer guts, boobs, or dicky do's...-do them, count them and report them. Winner gets **??** was the question-I think we should have a travelling trophy-reigning challenge winner holds the trophy until the next challenge when it is passed on -like a baton- or prized heirloom. I think I have an old middle school basketball trophy I could donate for the cause...unless someone has something grander. (I know it's hard to come up with something better than THAT, but you can try!)

I say a better challenge is how many excuses can we come up with and how long can we make this thread so that we don't really ever have to start the push up/sit up thing.
