Sarah - that does suck!  I'm thinking about you.

Let me tell you my success story in hopes that it will brighten your spirits.  I tore my ACL playing indoor soccer and had reconstructive surgery about 3 weeks after I tore it.  I had a patellar tendon surgery and besides a VERY small numb spot on my knee - I have no other signs of every having reconstructive surgery (knock on wood) - it is 100% and I have no pain, limits etc.  So with good rehab (and mine wasn't even great since I got prego a month after surgery) you'll be just fine!

Thinking of you!

Ouch Sarah. That's a tough break. Sounds like you have an excellent attitude and a sound plan going forward to get back to where you want to be. Hopefully Carmen's story gives you a little peace of mind.

We'll be reading kickass race reports from you in no time!

Wishing you a speedy recovery, John

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I know I am in good shape and I know the surgery will likely go well. The thought of 6 months of recovery is daunting but I'll live

Oh and since that bike that I really want is on sale and since I will want it for my race in June whether I end up doing the olympic or the 1/2 IM I think I'm gonna get it

I will have fun rehabing on my brand spanking new bike even if it is on a trainer in my house in the dead of winter, hehe.

Hey sarah sorry to hear that, I tore my ACL,MCL, and meniscus playing football my senior year.  I hated when it happend because I felt like I had to sit around all the time.  Make sure you rehab hard(I know you will) because i took it too light and now the back of my knee tends to hurt after long runs and airborne jumps.  GOOD LUCK!!!

On another note i finally started my work out plan since i have been off of it for about a month and a half of training.......it is so damn hard to start gettin back on a routine after you are off of one for soo long.  I have my first two Tri in October so that gives me about 11 weeks to work as hard as possible.  This will be my first one so hopefully i will be in good enough shape.   Im gonna push myself real hard for the next 11 weeks.  Im going to stick to that plan as much as i can, im just nervous that im going to forget something or not be prepared for my tri, but everyone has nerves before their first one.

I hope everyone week is going great and training for everyone is going as good as possible. Always remember "The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible"!

Whew our mentor group was falling down the list so I am just bumping us up again!

Had my first PT appointment yesterday and the therapist was really optimistic and made me feel good about the surgery and the recovery.

Yay, the week is almost over! I hope everyone is doing well

Glad to hear your feeling optimistic Sarah. Thats half the battle. Your gonna come back stronger to be sure.

As for me, i've got a big day planned tomorrow (Sat.) with a friend who's doing IM Louisville. 70 mile bike ride followed up with a 30-45min run. Good times.

 Have a great weekend ya'll!

Had to run home and shower for hair appt right after I finished my tri Saturday as my sister was getting married that day too - I know - I'm crazy... so I JUST got my official times.  The bachelorette party and rehearsal dinner really interfered with my training as I was hoping not to taper since this wasn't a big race... BUT... I pulled off some decent times and I'm going to train REALLY hard over the next couple of weeks for my last race of the tri season on 9/13 and then off to half marathon training.
Here's how I did Saturday:

400m swim - 9 min, 11 sec

T1 - 1 min, 40 sec

10K (6.2mi) bike - 28 min, 41 sec

T2 - 10 sec

2.5K (1.5mi) run - 13min, 26 sec

Total Time - 53:08

hi guys,

wow, if nothing more, we needed the bump back up to the top. just wanted to check in with everyone and share my mini-victory today.

i did a sprint tri today with an 800 yd swim in a lake and...no backstroke! i actually sighted really well and kept moving forward with only about 4 rest breaks. this was a huge mental breakthrough for me and oh, yeah, the rest of the tri went really well too. RR will be up after I they post the numbers, but it was tons of fun.

this week will probably a light week as my body feels so exhausted right now. hope everyone has a terrific end to the weekend!

Way to go! In my experience, the swim is more full of breakthrough workouts and races than the bike and the run, so look of more of the same to come.

We've just recovered from a second PC meltdown...finally had to breakdown and replace the hard drive. Between the computer crashes, the Africa trip, and our move to our new apartment, it's been pretty hectic lately. My wife and I are both doing Disneyland 1/2 Marathon next Sunday and I'm not setup for a good race (coming back injured after 10 days of basically no training), so it will probably end up as an intense training run for me.

Oh, and did I mention I'll be a contestant on Jeopardy! on Tuesday? Just taping then...air date will be some time in the mid-fall.

Kim - that's a huge victory - way to go!!!

Todd - Be sure to tell us when it airs - that's awesome... so you're athletic and a brain - impressive!

Here's my little victory - all my mileage for August has now passed my July totals so my workouts have improved.  Odd because I feel more out of shape but I have a feeling that's more a mental thing because my weight is creeping up.  I've been really bad with nutrition so I'm getting back on track again with workouts and diet!  I've got another Sprint tri in 2 weeks and I feel very unprepared for it

Oh - and I did sneak a peek at a bike store this weekend.  I've been given a budget for a purchase in the early spring of next year.

Grats on the awesome race and swimming breakthrough Kim!

Looking forward to seeing you on Jeopardy Todd.  Please keep us posted as to the air time.

Hang in the Carmen, your race will rock, I just know it!

As for me, this past Sat my daughter had her first triathlon and she did awesome! I snuck in a nice brick on Sun and was pleased with how I felt and my speeds. Feeling right on track for a good HIM soon. Started to get excited and can't wait to do it! Heading down to Louisville this weekend with some friends to watch a buddy do his first IM and i'm wishing i was in it Next year!

peace, john

I bet it was a blast watching your daughter...that's so cool!

Have fun at IMKY...I understand that that race is going to online-only registration for next year and hasn't been a quick sellout like other M-Dot races, so it's definitely a goal to consider.

This weekend is Disneyland 1/2-Marathon for both my wife and me (her first race longer than 12K)...should be fun...although it starts ridiculously early so they can let the runners run through the park for the first 4 miles or so and still open it for business...

Wahooo!! I'm heading down to IMKY this weekend which has been planned for a while, however my buddy just hooked us up with volunteer positions as spotters to radio back info on the top 5 pros throughout the day. We will be either in a car or on a motorcycle during the bike portion and we will be riding our bikes during the run portion. We'll have full credentials to be out on the course with the pros! I'm so pumped right now!

Let ya'll know how it goes when i get back in town. Right after i sign up for IMKY 2009!

peace, john

How did you score that gig???

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I've got some swimming and biking planned and the hubbie, myself and the dog might go camping one night.

Later all.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Can't wait to hear how the Disney run went, Todd.

I did a 6.2 mile run with my husband on Sunday as a solo run to go along with the Nike Human Race since I was missing the one in our hometown.  Was very proud of how we did for those 6 miles.  Going out tonight to practice the swim and bike portion of my course in two weeks so hoping that goes just as well.  Last tri for the season before I turn my training on my half marathon full-time.

Finally feel like I've caught a breather after HIM/apt move/Africa trip/computer-meltdown/half-mary...

Congrats and good luck to our prospective Ironpersons!

Carmen: Really good looking splits on your 10K!

As some of you have noticed, I managed to aggravate the injury I had coming back from Africa in my half mary on Sunday, so this'll be a bike commute and swim week (or two) heading into Malibu Tri on the 14th. I'll probably try a short run on Friday or Saturday, but we'll see how it goes...

Have a great (short) week, guys!
