Glad your birthday was great! Hopefully you'll get someone to watch the kiddos this weekend and get that hubby of yours to take you out for a REAL birthday dinner, or get your friends to do it if he's away. Oh, and what was in the package from him?? Wally, very cool attitude! And great workout! Um, running. Right? I think so. Yeah, so I did another trail run today. It was a wicked long run. While I miss making the mileage (normally this would have been a 10K+ run), I was stoked at the challenge and scenery. I decided to head uphill for 40 minutes and then get back down in however long it took. I got to within .25 mi of the summit (I thought it symbolic for those Pecans!), but that will just push me to get back out there and crank it again. I walked almost the whole way up, but I was pushing the whole time and felt like I paced myself well. I was totally spent and Done With Going Uphill at about 39:20, so I only had forty seconds of dragging myself every step! Then I got to turn around and nearly kill myself heading back downhill. It was a great mental challenge as I got all fuzzy and wanted to be done with about a half mile of downhill left, but I kept pushing and kept running along and just knew I needed to do it. The best training is when you want nothing more than to quit, but you keep fighting and pushing and make it one more step...then one more...then one more...until you are where you need to be! |

That sounds like great run! Congrats and way to push yourself! I must say I'm a little jealous hearing you use the word summit as a descriptor in your run. I don't think that term applies to any point in Iowa, where I train. |

Master 1989![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New Jersey | Subject: RE: Hot ToddiesOk, today's update of As Wally's World Turns... So, I happened to get an email from a girl in my running club. Asking about who's going to a particular race and if she could get a ride - totally innocent. And I responded about who I'd be going with and that I'd normally go in with my ex-girlfriend - and I named her by name, didn't say anything about being a girlfriend - not even sure who knew what. And it just opened the door. I didn't know but she apparently is still dating the guy who my ex is now dating, and confronted him about this situation and he totally denied everything. And it's just a mess. I have this REALLY, REALLY , REALLY bad feeling for my ex. I'm done with this whole situation, but I have this concern for her. She's a strong person on the outside, and wise to the world, but I know deep down she's all mush and this is not a good situation for her. I just know how it'll play out. I feel like the overprotective father. I warned her earlier. I talked to her friend to just alert her. I've done all i can. It's not my place anymore. I can only pray for her. And I never was a praying man. Wow. I just never asked for any of this. I'm going back to worrying about whether my daughter wearing flip-flops to her school concert is acceptable or not. (Yes, she did that.) |

And I'm pretty sure it helped me through the last 6 miles of my marathon in October |

So far, I've actually let my kids pick the music. I have a bunch of CD's that they've ripped some music off of, plus they're a little more "hip" than me, so I get some good songs back. So, I have Beatles, AC/DC, Ramones, David Gray, Pink Floyd, all over the place. Couple songs that are great - Coldplay "ruled the world" song and Matchbox Twenty "How Far We've come" And I never run with the iPod - ruins the experience for me. I only use it when I'm on the bike trainer. |
