I live in the Boston area and have been lurking on this thread due to the fact I have met some of the members of this group. I wanted to chime in on the shoulder issues while ridding. The suggestions of core and relaxing are very important and relivant. I would like to add check your bike fit. Adjusting the seat or handle bar height can take some tension off. Also something as simple as rotaing the bars twards the ground can make a difference. Bike fit is so very important. Hope this helps and feel free to PM me for more info if you need to. As for selecting the right races, I belong to a local tri group as well as BT. This group happens to be Trifury in the Boston area. You can normaly check these local teams to find out which races they select to do as a team. The local training thread on BT has state specific threads. In the top left corner of those threads should be a link to teams that are listed through BT. Asking in those threads can help you find good races and possible training partners. Good luck with your race selections.
Joe Hey Joe, thanks for the info. I have some major bike fit issues, but I'm not going to address them until I can ride outside again. I'll shoot you a PM then. |

Regular 71 Melbourne | Subject: Iron Man Challenge Hey this sounds like a great idea- might take a while for me as an individual to finish the run- will be a good insight into how our training is balanced (I for one spend way more time in the pool than anywhere else cause I like swimming best). Happy to do individual- or if we do teams, I'll do the swim leg. PS I love smurfs : ) |

Hey Joe, thanks for the info. I have some major bike fit issues, but I'm not going to address them until I can ride outside again. I'll shoot you a PM then. Allen, I can definately appreciate the desire to wait until you are on the open roads again to address bike fit. When you are outside, you can definately dial in the fit to your style. In the mean time, consider some tweaking, just to help take any pressure off your shoulders. Up here in fridged Ma, it could be a good 3 months of a bad fit that could mess with your whole season. I spent over 60% of my 1/2 Ironman up on the brake hoods due to a sore shoulder. In my case, the shoulder was sore due to a car accident, but it did not heal until after I changed my aero bar fit so that I was not contiuing to agrivate the shoulder. Good luck with your training, Steve, thanks for the glowing introduction. Joe |

You are my OG mentor. For the rest of the group Joe would be a great source of info as he has been for me. He is why I am here and has done an excellant job introducing me to this sport. I would request to out little group we add one more if no one minds. I think he's up to the task as well.Hi all, My name is Joe for those who do not know me. Joe Nice picture Papa smurf, I asked my kids and they don't even now what a Smurf is. I'm getting old.
Joe is more than welcome. We won't be turning anyone away who really wants to be a part of the group. Plus, it seems that some of us have crazy schedules and may take some time to respond (me) to questions, so the more eyes watching over the group, the better. I wonder if there are any other lurkers out there? |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I will give the challenge a couple of more days before starting it up. We can do individual competition. I will set a spreadsheet up in the Google documents page. I will post the user name and password when it's done. All you have to do is enter the distance of each swim, bike, run workout/race, and the spreadsheet will automatically calc how far you have gone and how much remaining. This will be fun.

I have been told that 16mph is a good average. Unless someone has other info, I am good with that. |

I need the extra motivation to get back in the pol and on my bike right now. Just registered for my first tri of the year. In March! yikes! it's a mini sprint, and the swim is in a pool, but I have not been in the pool in way too long and I think there is actually dust on my bike. there is going to be a lot of training going on this weekend |

Regular 93 Billerica | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I have been playing with the adjustment on my bike trainer because I found a pile of rubber on the floor. I thought it might be adjusted too hard so I loosened the adjustment up a bit so I don't need to get a new tire before spring. My time on the trainer is acurate but I question the miles\speed being displayed on the bike computor based on my resistance level. Does anyone know the proper way to adjust it so it simulates actual road resistance?? |

There in lies the problem. Just use the user name and password above and it will take you to the BT Challenge forum. Sorry, I should have been more specific with the instructions. NO NEED TO SET UP YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. See if that works. |

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Food!! When I started this training a few months ago I weighted in at 169lbs. Now I tip the scales around 145lbs. Am being told by several friends I am looking way to skinny. My feelings are that I have lost quite a bit of weight but have added a nice body tone-can basically eat what ever I want now and just burn it off at an easy pace. Have built up a lot of endurance so am not really tiring on my work outs etc. Wondering what others use for intake in order to maintain? I do add in muti vits etc and working in health care I am well aware of the bodies needs-back to that supplement question again-advice! |
