Mrschach - 2010-01-30 5:23 AM So I am not losing this weight the way I had hoped to but I am losing inches!  I took measurements end of December/beginning of January.  I can't remember when exactly.  I took them again this morning.  I lost an inch off my chest, 2 from my waist, and 1 from my hips.  I need to keep telling myself that this is still good!!

Awesome results! inches lost > weight lost in my opinion.

Yes, very awesome news!  Experts say that inches lost is actually a better way to gauge weight (fat) loss since muscle weighs more than fat.

Good Morning! I'm getting in the pool today at lunch.  And I'm following it with a 30 minute run.  There, I've said it.  Out loud.

No excuses, no funny business.  Planning right now, to be free for at least an hour over lunch.  Planning my food now, planning my day's work now to accomodate this.  I know my chances of a workout tonight are dicey at best so I have to take control right now.

Does anyone else find themselves feeling lazy (or excuse laden) when you have time NOW to do something, and not doing it, in favor of a "less likely to happen" opportunity later?  "Oh I'll have time tonight..no problem" and not even thinking of tonight's circumstances in any detail?  I battle that stuff all the time.  EVERY DAY.  I'll relenquish an opportunity in two seconds when I"m in complete control of the situation, when I know the alternative is subject to TONS of uncertaintly (kids, work, weather, other unforseen stuff)

Gotta make my mini goals.

What are everyone's goals for today?

My plan for today was to get my butt out of bed this morning and run.  Since that did not happen (Surprise surprise!), I will be running tonight.  My planned run yesterday was 50 minutes and I did not get it in.  I went to an expo for my local tri club instead.  It was not a good day so I just could not get it in.  I will do that run plus a P90X workout tonight.

I've already taken up making excuses in my head as to why I can't go swimming tonight, "I can go tomorrow night, when my husband goes", "I'm on my off week from bootcamp, I deserve the night off"  Reality is tomorrow night I will be tired from my tempo run, if I went directly from the run to the pool it would be okay, but I'd be going home first, showering, eating some food and sitting in my comfy chair that I won't be getting out of an hour later to go swim.  So, I will say it here now, that I am going to swim tonight!

This tends to happen to me on the weekends.  My weekday schedule is very structured and laid out, but come weekend mornings I struggle with this a lot.  I get up and don't really have anything planned for the mornings (usually) but I end up talking myself out of working out b/c I will just do it later once I've woken up and it has warmed up outside.  Every time I get in a morning weekend workout I feel great about it after, but the same little devil is on my shoulder every weekend telling me to not get my morning workout in.

Gonna ride the bike on the trainer today, then run tomorrow.  This weekend (starting Thur night) is going to be dicey for me with the workouts as my wife and I are babysitting my 17mo nephew until Mon.  We don't have kids so it will be totally new for us.  We are going to try and squeeze our workouts in when we can, but after this weekend I will SO SYMPATHIZE with those that have kids and still workout.

If you mean it.  I find once I vocalize a goal and let others know, then it is much easier to get done.  And hard to talk myself out of it at 4am.

Every now and then John (my husband) will ask me why I want to do races and triathlons.  He just does not get it.  I have only done one run and one tri so far.  Last year we were out for dinner the night before the run and he told me he just does not understand it.  I really did not have an answer for him.  Do your spouses do any of this too?  If not, do they understand your desire to?

John supports me.  That is not an issue at all.  He comes from a background of just team sports.

My wife understands 30-45 min workouts.  She doesn't understand workouts last anywhere between 1-6 hours.  She accepts them and supports me but she doesn't understand them.

I am very fortunate in that my husband totally gets why, because he has the same goals, all though his are on a faster schedule than mine.  We have been taking swim instruction together, we both go for runs on Sunday morning, and we fight over who gets to use the trainer some nights:p

Ok I am just going to say it now...I am going to do an Aquathon in 2 weeks.

As for my other half understanding, he is very fit, no body fat, and he can run. I struggle and he doesnt understand that. I just workout everyday and tell him I have to. So I guess he supports it, he doesnt fight it. He only wants to enter events to be competitive and truthfully I do them for myself. I am not competitive so he doesnt really get that. Exercising is what I have to do now, I just make it a part of my daily plan and he deals with it. Complaining would do no good anyway. Plus, I am way nicer when I am following my plan!

What is an aquathon?

John is cool with me training/working out everyday.  He knows it is really the only thing that helped my PPD after having our second kid.  He just does not get the race part of it.  We both know I will never be competitive.  I may be in the smaller tris but never the bigger, higher profile ones.

So why do you want to do them?

In the beginning it was tougher with my wife.  I think she felt I didn't want to spend time with her, but once she realized how much fun I had and that I use it to keep me in shape (and in turn, a better mood) then she realized that by doing triathlons I was a happier person and more fun to be around.  Now, a little over 2yrs later...she has picked up running and working out just as much, if not more, than me.  It has become part of our routine and we help motivate each other.  After work, we know each other has some kind of workout planned and we do our own thing then meet at home for dinner.  We'll occasionally workout together.  It is fun and has become who we are.

usually a swim/run, but have also seen it as a swim/bike

About not understanding you wanting to race...you said he is into team sports right?  Pick whichever sport he likes (ie, football) and then tell him that it would be like football players practicing all week and then never playing an actual game.

Swim 1000yards, 5K run....I figure it should take me less than 3-4 hours! Yes I am kidding but I accept I will probably be last. Hey, at least I am doing it. I would be even more last if I was just sitting on the couch!
