I may not be as helpful on the daily workout challenge.   I did the December Peach challenge, and found daily workouts to be difficult.  I do a run program of 3x a week with 2-3 crosstraining sessions of swim or bike.  My old knees and back cannot handle more than 3 days of running a week.  I will do my best.

Just do what is best for you. I want athletes in for the long haul, not a sumer of abuse to the body and out forever.

Let the games begin! Remember its a point fo 20 minutes of swimming, biking or running. Consistency is what we want. Do your best. Good luck and may the best team win (That phrase never made sense to me.The best team probably will win.)

So...is it a point for each 20' with no daily max?  If I run for 40' at once is it 2 points?  Just wondering when I am 2 min shy of the next 20' increment, should I go a few more yards.

Good question. The max any one person can earn in a day is 1 point. My thought is that it evens the playing field a little. 20 minutes is the minimum for a beneficial workout so this way everyone has the ability to contribute evenly to their team regardless of fitness level, as long as its swimming biking or running. So I am afraid no extra points for40minutes....but nice work.

Hows everyone doing???? Any questions etc?

Question for the group: Do you belong to a local tri group or try to form friendships at races with other athletes? On race day are you focused on what you have to do or do you look around at what others are doing, ask questions etc???

For me when I go to races I enjoy meeting other people.I met one guy during the run leg of a tri that ended up being from my home town and we have stayed in touch a bit ever since. Turned out he's a physical therapist and has all kinds of good workout ideas. I also really like finding people who are fumbling around in transition and have never done a race before. Its fun to help them get a good start so they are not so miserable during the race. Good stuff.

Have a goodmonday everyone. Get your twenty minutes in!

I train alone.  It seems with my weird schedule and family committments, I always swim at 5:30am and run weither very early or very late.  I try not to go out on weekends for long rides/runs.

As far as meeting people at races.  I do like to meet folks, but I am mostly focused on getting done to see my wife and kids and get on with the day.

I do belong to a local Tri and a local running group.  When I do running races, I seem to always travel in packs.  Even if I drive to a race by myself, I will usually meet up with people.  We make a party out of a lot of races.  But once that gun goes off, it's every person for themselves.

I do the Indy Mini marathon every year and for a number of the years, we always tailgated after the race.  Got the BBQ out and started cooking watching everyone else crossing the finish.  Last year we tried something new.  We entered the Mini as a team.  5 people to a team but only your top 3 score points and it's age graded.  It's awesome because they put all the teams in a roped off area with free beer and massages.  I highly suggest that to anyone looking to do the mini marathon in Indy.  Even if your team isn't that good, the social atmosphere afterwards is a lot of fun.

I love the beer and massage idea....when I ran marathons 20 years ago there was always beer at the finish and now there are all sorts of funky drinks but no brewsky...where on earth did my coronas get to?? What is with muffins, bagels and bananas...NOT what I want after a long workout. My beer consumption amounts to perhaps 12 coronas in a year but I really enjoy the few I have and they are always after a long workout...I am glad to hear there are still places that subscribe to the idea of beer for recovery!
PS my teen daughter is mortified that her mom drinks beer! What gives?

Training: I pretty much have to do it alone as most other working mom's have a tough time committing to a certain time and day without work or kid-interruptions(ie sick child, etc). I have a great cycle training friend but she has just had the pins removed from her leg after a fracture last winter...

Event day: I always meet other folks. I find that as a rookie triathlete, some of the veterans are in need of help with zippers(uh, wetsuit zippers!!) etc. Even once the event is on, I will definitely give a word of encouragement to anyone who looks like they need it...I should be more savage and competitive, but I just don't have it in me.

After the event...I like to kick back and enjoy the atmosphere, so long as I don't have a restless family waiting for me. Ya know...

Great question...

You are a Mom and not suppose to have a fun bone in your body.  I remember my sisters be mortified of everything my parents did.  Girls!!!!!  Guys are so easy.  My girls are going to be the death of me in about 10 years.

Thank you thank you thank you!! That is SO what I needed to hear. There does seem to be a huge difference btwn son and daughter, though they are only 16 months apart...so complex these girls. So, I suppose I should just accept that I don't have any "fun-bones" and that I am generally the most embarrassing being on the face of the planet and get on with my training. Teehee. Just wait until I decide to get off my nightshift on a hot summer day and crack a beer at 0700 while I sun myself on the deck!! Perhaps I should find an absolutely vile housecoat to wear. IF I am going to be the source of such embarrassment, it occurs to me that maybe I should have some fun while doing it?? (laughing)

Anyone else have insights on teen parenting...I am open to all stories, suggestions or humourous tales

Awesome job on swimming a mile non stop.  I am still trying to do that myself.  I am not there yet but maybe in another month or so.  Great job.  Keep up the outstanding training.

Had a PR 10k today.  was doing a 5 mile Tempo run and felt good, so I went an additional 1.25 miles and did it in 45:30.  Almost a minute faster than last summer.  It was on an indoor track, but it still counts to me.  Thought I would share.

Congrats on the PR, Rob!  I need to get started running again myself, but I've been enjoying the swimming so much I've spent all my workout times in the pool this month.

So how is everyone doing????? When is everyones first race so we know when to start cheering you on.

My first race is the last weekend in March.   I am doing a half marathon tune up run to gage where I am.  Getting ready for the Indy Mini on May 8th.
