Any suggestions about who to call to schedule one of these tests? I eat between 2500 and 3000 each day and I can't seem to get below 180. Based on my pinch test I'm about 17% lard. I'd like to get down to around 9% or 10%.... the leaner the better. I don't know how I could possible eat anymore food.... so suggestions on boosting my cal. intake would be helpful. I pretty much keep everything paleo.... so if it's got an ingredient list I try to avoid it. Do I need to rethink my whole philosophy of nutrition?

brick94513 - 2010-04-19 1:52 PM Hydrostatic body fat calculation was pretty cool.  Imagine a large stainless steel bathtub.  The bottom is supported by cables and functions as the scale.  You lie prone in about 18" of water with a weight on your lower back.  You exhale, then put your head under water, and continue to exhale until you can't blow anymore bubbles.  They repeat the test three times, then use a calculation based on height, weight, and correction for dead space air in the lungs.  The test provides you with your lean muscle mass weight, body fat weight, percentage of body fat, and your resting metabolic rate in calorie expenditure.

My test results showed 7.2% body fat or 10.6 pounds of adipose tissue.  Resting metabolic rate is 1,832 calories.  So, my normal consumption of about 3,500 to 4,000 calories a day was pretty much on target after adding for normal activity and exercise.

Interesting stuff.  Don't that have that available locally.

7.2%...I just called your local Burger King & left a tab for you to have a double whopper once a day until you get above 15%.

*whispers under breath* Congrats!

I wouldn't even know where the local Burger King is located! Laughing

I scheduled through my local gym.  I would start there.

Not at all.  Paleo is a sound ideology toward nutrition.  I also try to eat organic.  I have fresh, local, organic fruits and vegetables delivered.  Same goes for meat.  Grass fed, no pesticides, no hormones, and not farmed.  Take a look at the Zone diet.  Very efficient in my opinion.  My wife has had great success with it.  I think it is a great program to gradually lose body fat while building lean muscle mass.  Without going into great detail, it basically calls for calories to be derived from 40 percent protein, 40 percent carbs, 20 percent fats.  At first, the process is cubersome, but it becomes fairly easy with time.

So far using the Zone, my wife has lost 21 pounds of fat and gained 3 pounds of lean muscle mass through exercise.

the zone is also a good way to ease into healthier eating if you have problems sticking w/ a plan.  i do.  i did it for about a month.  i noticed more energy throughout the day more than anything, which was nice.

brick94513 - 2010-04-18 6:18 PM Alright, I wondering if I'm just a big baby.  So, on my ride today, I hit some new high speeds on a couple of descents.  The one descent was probably over a mile and I hit 45 MPH before I decided to started tapping the brakes.  Bike handled really well though. No speed wobbles.  I just got a little worried about the speed and the debris and gravel on the shoulder of the road.

Opinions?  Baby or justified?  Have you guys carried these speeds on your road bikes?  Let me have it!

My opinion is that you were being smart to hit the brakes. Fastest I've gone is 32mph and I was very nervous.

Oh, and nice bike porn guys. Very nice.

I'm not going to call you a baby. LOL  But, I personally don't have a problem with the high speeds.  That said I used both drag race and road race motorcycles.  40+ on a bicycle is nothing compared to dragging a knee on the pavement at 80+ mph. LOLLaughing

some good lookin' bikes in here!!

I got bad news today.  My P4 may not be here till August.  They originally said end of this month.  Now, I'm not sure whether to wait or notCry

I also roadraced for 5 years or so!  Mostly lightweight twins with the AFM out at Sears Point on a rediculously modified EX500.  That was back in the dual income - no kids days...  Boy, people think Tri's are expensive, those days of spending $200 for a set of slicks that lasted 3 weekends were brutal (and that was on a low powered bike)!  And never mind crash damage $$...

that sucks!  August is a long ways away, I think I'd probably look into option B, whatever that is...

Nice!!! I had a 1992 strected gsxr 750 crazy modified for drag racing and a 1999 Yamaha R1 also crazy modified that pulled double duty street/track.  That thing ate up rear tires!!!

I really don't know what plan b is.  LOL  I could wait, I do have a bike right now.  Otherwise, I can get the P3 and call it a day.  But I REALLY like this years P4!!

ha!!! I actually have a pic on my pc from a track day back in the day!  At least you wore leather on the mc.  If you fall on the bicycle it's not as fast but you might as well be in your underwear!

I'm #403

Uhm...I've never raced a motorized vehicle. But my grandmother was a pretty popular drag racing figure in OKC in the early 70s....does that count?

When you're doing stuff like that it's not if...it's when.  So yes, several times. LaughingLOL  Infact, if I remember correctly, I think I wrecked in that corner (the one in the pic) later in that day after the pic was taken.

attached below is a pic of me from ~1997 or so?  Turn 2 at Sears Point.  I had 4-5 pretty high speed crashes in my years racing, the worst injury was a sprained thumb.  Ironically, I've broken several bones mountain biking since then...  Something to be said for full body leather/padding/boots and a real helmet...

Anyway, back to tri stuff!!  I love seeing all your awesome bikes, cool!  Tim, the Motolite was the bike I really wanted when I bought my Stumpjumper!  They are just good looking, good working nice bikes.  I really like the color of yours too, very nice.

I was going to go for a bike/run today, but it's raining again!  Probably just gonna do the treadmill tonight after dinner. I'm on a reduction week (not sure what it's officially called, but my plan calls for a 50% reduction in volume from last week) so my workouts will be pretty short.

Periodization.  Most plans call for three weeks of progression followed by one week of reduced volume.  The idea to apply stress in the form of training then allow time for adaptation by falling back for the week.  The next week will normally start greater than the week preceeding your rest.
