pdbman - 2010-10-13 6:47 PM I'm feeling that longer run last night and the bike ride today just a little in my legs. I'll have to be careful trying to catch up so I don't over do it.

In the end it's only a challenge *ducks and hides from other team mates*. Take care of your body first.
I am suprised at how easy it is to get injured running. I've had a few issues and I don't even do long distances compared to the rest of BT. I hope I don't have the dreaded "glass legs" that I've heard about.

I think as long as you are careful building up your base and don't increase your mileage too fast you should be OK. I think I might be bordering on building my mileage too fast.

I was worried about glass legs so I went out and did my own tri one day. Swam, did the ride (which ended up being a little long), then started running. It really wasn't too bad. I would try a few ride/run bricks as part of your training and you should be fine.

I've been building fairly carefully. I did the running room 5km run program over the summer and now I'm doing their half marathon program, modified to be 3 days a week instead of 5.

I'm loving it to far but looking forward to running faster and further.

mbasta - 2010-10-14 6:46 AM Garlic pizza sounds amazing! I put garlic into just about everything I make.

Have you tried oven roasted garlic

There's a lovely restaurant called Stiff Chili (hee hee hee) that serves brick-oven, wood-fired pizzas and their garlic one is amazing.

What's a banana pepper? Is it those yellow usually horizontally sliced pickled peppers?

Yes! Mmm... your thoughts on them?

I can take them or leave them. I like some pickles and pickled things but mostly I'm neutral about them.

That's blasphemy! They're one of the best universal peppers. Most peppers are kind of limited in what you can use them in, different types work best for different things, but banana peppers are good with just about anything.

I've been ruined for eating hot dogs. I found this wonderful jabanero sauce that was amazing on hot dogs. Sadly, the company quit making it. I mourn that one bottle that I dropped and broke. I wasted the whole bottle of the precious liquid. And now hot dogs just aren't the same.

I've heard it said that you should spend your first year just building up your base. I'm not that patient. When I think about it though, that's about how long I took to build up my base before I started increasing mileage before my first marathon. I've learned that the 10% rule is pretty important though. Never increase your weekly mileage by more than 10% a week. I also never increase my long run by more than 10% and its served me pretty well so far.

mbasta - 2010-10-13 4:58 PM I also like that they keep people off my pizza portion at large gatherings. I'm the only vegetarian (almost veg anyway) and don't eat meat on my pizza ever. When I used to get cheese pizza all of the omnivores attack my portion because they love cheese pizza... Most people I know don't like spicy or peppers.

I've never considered banana peppers to be spicy. But then again, we recently made some mexican food for a dinner and one of our friends had just returned from living in Mexico for two years. It was a little spicy for him. He said it was hotter than anything he had ever had.

Running Room uses the 10% rule so I trust my legs in their hands. I'm planning on doing the Chilly Half Marathon at the end of March, so that gives me lots of time to slowly build up to the 21km distance. I'm doing a couple more 5km races before then too. 5km distance is fun! I hope I will say the same after the half mary!

I used to find banana peppers spicy - for example I would get a half pizza with banana peppers and half way through I would pick off the rest. Now, I get double banana peppers and it's not hot whatsoever, just tastey. I've built up my tolerance a lot! I have xxx hot sauce that I use on Mexican night.

I think any race is fun if you are ready for it. I did a half mary this year and I hurt worse after the half mary than any other race I've ever done. I think it was because it was an early season race and I wasn't really ready for it. I should have skipped it but I had already missed one race and wasn't willing to drop another.

Sunny would be nice. I wish we were on the same side of summer as you are. It would be great if things were warming up instead of cooling off. We didn't have much of a summer this year and fall is coming a little to early for me.

A scorching hot Christmas would be tough to get used to. Being from Alaska, I don't know if I could handle a Christmas without snow.
