Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good lord, I am out for a few days and have PAGES to catch up on - awesome! KC - Hope your mum's health is returning. (Please DON'T pass anything on to the groups vehicles, we've spoken about my old dud before, I do NOT want anything taking over the newer car thanks. Tim - great signing up as a volunteer. Are you planning on registering for next year while you're there? ooops yes, you are. I just looked up and saw - duh. What is everybody doing for Easter? I have decided not to do the HM on saturday. I was worried it wouldn't fit in my schedule. This week is my recovery week and next week my hours increase. I wouldn't want to be knackered from the half and not be able to give my HIM training my all. ( Plus it's meant to absolutely pour hehe) Edited by cheekymonkeys1 2011-04-20 10:15 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not to add in any bad news, but to reiteriate the point about sleep... I spent a few hours in the attic Tuesday night as rain poured into my daughters bedroom ceiling. Then was able to fit in a good brick workout yesterday afternoon in between working, taxi driving kids, coaching track team, and shopping. Decided to let myself sleep in this morning - until 6:00!! - to let the sleep hormones work their magic. I skipped swim today. But plan on getting in the bike later this evening. Also planning on doing an informal half marathon with my wife this Sat. will just put that in place of some planned workouts to help her in her quest. Hoping to get in a long ride this weekend, but from the sounds of the weather folks on tv, I am in for a stormy wet next 6 days. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning Team. Coach - the race on June 5 is a sprint - 600 m swim, 30 k bike, 5 k run. Let me know. Maybe we could figure out a home and away series LOL. Did you make the swim this morning. Tim - glad you are getting better. Deb - Mom may be getting out of the hospital today and I will be getting my car back. A bit of a bill but hey, maintenance cost is part of owning a car I guess. No worries about the HM - you are doing the right thing. Keith - 2 now huh - well look at it this way, if you have a bad race you are still going to get a sliver medal Mary A - Looks like the June 4,5 weekend is going to be a busy one for all of us - awesome! Brian - crazy crappy weather here as well - depressing. Stress test at 2 today - but - after that I get to bike (even though it will be in my basement) and swim tonight, which I am looking foward to. All of course contingent on how my Mom is and where she is. Have a great day everyone. KC

Great video on swim technique with Andy Potts. I feel no guilt about people napping. If you fall asleep, guess what. YOU NEED IT! I'm working on 8 a night, too. I feel better, even more positive than usual, no mood issues anyway, stronger workouts! If you are taking a stress test today, I am thinking you might be taking it easy after. I did 7 miles of hills with the run club last night, 45 mins in the pool with Masters this morning, more tests on the bike today, VO2, short bursts of hard efforts. All good. Easter = long bike. I need to get a swim in again too.

But like I was told yesterday "how do you know you breaking point until your pushed beyond your limits". So don't sell yourself short. You can do it. You might surprise yourself.I thought I was working hard up until yesterday jend702 - 2011-04-21 12:34 AM Jen,that was an amazing workout! Wish you could push me! But I'd just fall down. lol Way to go girl! -KarenGot my A__ handed to me on the bike yesterday. I havent been pushed like that in a long time it was fantastic. Its was 1hr and 30min of hard work and pain. I wasnt expecting to climb that many hills at that hard of a pace. Max speed 38mph average speed 16mph. There were 8 hills I was pushed to keep it above 12mph...and the end of the ride was a steady climb. I was hurting bad but still pushed myself to run a 5k in 29min. Great brick workout. I keep telling myself Im going to take a day off from training but I have yet to do that. Happy training everyone. ![]() Jen, I thought of your words last night when I trainined. I pushed harder than normal. Felt good. Thanks for the reminder to "go hard or go home." -Karen |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tim: On the treadmills injury issue, there are arguments to both ways. I tend to get hurt on them but for others the added cushioning helps prevent injuries. If you are running for fitness only the treadmill is just fine, if you plan on racing I would advise doing the majority of your runs outdoors. I try never to run on hard surfaces (concrete/blacktop) as it leads me to more injuries. Thats great about being a volunteer, not that I don't want to see you but I will be very upset if I see you LOL. (assuming we start at 7am) My wife tried to help volunteer and everything was taken by 30 mins after signup. She talked with them and as a md they said she could work a 8hr shift. I don't think they understand she was just doing it to kill time while I race. Hope they can fit her in or she may just help out on race day for fun.
Deb, your turning into a slack (JK this group does move fast) No Easter plans for us as ang is on call from Fri-Mon. You could just do part of the HM for fun, if its a loop course just do one loop (if you already paid for it) Keith you have some competition this time! you have to keep your winning streak alive. Mary you should have to podium in the OA category! Brian: Ouch, that stinks about the house leaking. Did something damage the roof? Wow 6am is sleeping in, I call that getting up way too early! Have fun on your run and try to stay dry, we have rain predicted for the next 10 days or so.
KC let us know how the test goes? That will count as a partial workout! lol Yes I made the swim, I'm 2 for 2 on swimming this week. That is more than I swam almost all of last year LOL Scott: If we could only swim like potts, he was only a AA at UofM. Karen way to push!

After I had my daughter I joined the gym and had a personal trainer for a few months. He had me doing all kinds of excerises that at the time were very difficult (I didnt have natural child birth I had to have a C section) He had me doing some crazy sit up that my abs couldnt handle... as I was giving up because of pain he got in my face and said "GO HARD OR GO HOME...WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU PAYING ME FOR IF YOU NOT GOING TO PUSH" I was so embrassed. Now when ever I want to quit or give up I tell myself "go hard or go home"
Happy training today. I'll be swimming after work |

Yea whatever Jen you know your Mrs. Cocky.. LOL Its a great attitude because if your doing a workout you mind as well do it the way it was designed. Now I will disagree with it if you use that moto for every workout as some are supposed to be easy. Most people will never push their body even close to their limits so it usually does apply. My favorite saying during a race is NDWQ (buddy of mine former seal saying) Not Dead Won't Quit. |

![]() | ![]() razorxp - 2011-04-21 10:01 AM Mary you should have to podium in the OA category! Yeah right! I checked the times from last year...If I average swim 1:50/100, bike 18.5mph, and run 9min miles, I'll still be BOP for my age group. Oh, and there are 4 of us now...just checked again. On call again today. 45 min run complete, maybe will get in a bike on the trainer. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OMG,I feel like such a slacker reading about everyone's training! Tonight is a 1700m swim and then pack up to catch a 6:50 flight home tomorrow morning. Excited to be going home but not looking forward to having to get back on a plane at 4:30am Monday morning. Thank god I'm home after next week...this is KILLING my training schedule. Thx for letting me vent, everyone! JenD - I <heart> Dora! I need all the positive affirmations I can find. Coach - NDWQ is great! I'll have to put that in my arsenal...so far: motivation is temporary, inspiration is permanent; just keep swimming; if it doesn't hurt, you're not trying hard enough; courage is mastery of fear, not absence of fear; where there is no struggle, there is no strength. Hope everyone's having a great day! sarah |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. First, Sarah, safe travels and enjoy the swim. I love all your sayings and thoughts - I am going to put them in my arsenal - just like swing thoughts (golf incase you didn't know). God knows I have a lot of those LOL. Stress test was great - no issues no problems. I have the green light except for one more small blood pressure test I have to take next week. I am going to be wearing a monitor that will take my blood pressure every 30 minutes so I am going to figure out my day off training because I can't do any physical activity with it on. I will keep you posted - if you want LOL. My Mom is still in the hospital. We thought she might come home today but they are a bit slow getting the results of her echo cardiogram back to her and us. So, God willing, maybe she will get home tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I did have a couple of nice visits with her today and her spirits are high, which is great but I know my Dad wants her home. Car update - timing belt and water pump - $998.00 - Oh well, got to have a car to carry around my bike right? Just got home from a run, decent time and I am looking forward to a good lap swim tonight for sure I hope. That is it for me. Oh - someone asked what are we doing for Easter - dinner at my twin sisters with the family - sure hope my mother is out of the hospital for it. Have a great night everyone. Coach - WQND - love it. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Easter weekend is going to be tough to get in my IM training. As already noted, I need to run a half mary with Jacki (wife). Also having parents fly in from New Jersey. My dad will want to work on finishing my basement, so I will be spending time on that. Mom will be very proud of my oldest daughter altar serving at Easter mass. Then of course I will be cooking up a feast for most of the weekend. I will have to be creative to get in some of the wokrouts. Hope everyone has a good weekend! |

![]() | ![]() tmoran80 - 2011-04-22 8:50 AM Sounds like a busy weekend! Good luck trying to fit all that in with your workouts. Speaking of that...When you guys unexpectedly miss a workout (sleep in, family in town, whatever), do you try to make it up later? Even if it means doubling up? For instance, I missed a 30 min run. Had a 60 min run the next day. Ran 70 min to help make up for the miss. Second question- any recommendation as to which paddles to buy for swimming? Certain brand that is cheap and good? |
![]() ![]() |
Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok. this is probably a dumb questions. so please dont make fun. Is Yards the same as Meters in swimming? I noticed that when I entered my swim yesterday thru my phone I selected meters but its showing yards in my log. I changed it 3 times and it still shows as yards. So im just wondering if they're the same. I normally lose track of how much I swim because Im trying to focus on my technique but yesterday I made sure too and I think I finally figured out sighting. THANK YOU
