Nimue - 2012-04-04 12:23 PM Hey ya'll....my training is going well.  I am pretty much sure I am ready for my first three races. So that's a good sign.  I just wanted to see if you had any suggestions on goggles you like.  I am down to my backup pair and need to order some new ones.  I had the Swedish goggles that a swimmer friend reccomended, but they hurt my eyes after awhile. I don't think they were made for distance.   Anyway....advice?

Nice to hear your training is shaping up!

I love my aquashpere kaimen's. They were pricey, but have last 3 years and are going strong. Very comfortable, don't leak, and rarely leave a mark on my face.

i use the speedo vanquisher goggles. they come with 3 maybe 4 interchangeable nose pieces for different nose sizes and they are relatively cheap - $20 in stores, $10-$12 online

I use these too. Only problem I have is that they fog up now. I have tried Rain~X antifog and it works somewhat.

Any ideas on fogging.

I spit in my goggles, and also make sure to clean them with soap and water every week or so which seems to help with the fogging.

as nasty as it sounds spitting does work the best. i was once told to use a drop of dish soap on the inside of the lens. got to the pool started swimming and my eyes were burning like crazy. told the lifeguard they put too much chlorine in the pool. he looked at his little tester and said it's at the same level it always is. got home and did some research online and found out the dish soap i used had ammonia in it. I haven't tried it since but if you do make sure the soap does NOT contain ammonia

spit is free.  you could also use defog for scuba masks.  even heard you could use toothpaste to clean the film from the inside of the grim then apply the defog.  never tried it though.  my scuba mask leaks all the time, i wouldn't know what to do with out a mask half full of salt water.  the upside is i get a constant saline nasal rinse....even at 130 ft.

I think the toothpaste and soap is to get any dirt or grit off the inside so that it doesn't lend itself to fogging.
