Marshpike - 2012-02-04 12:53 PM That's good swimming, I must see where I'm at next day in the pool.

I think I was doing 1.30 for 90m but blow out after about 500m at that speed, hate counting too the garmin 910 looks like the dawgs but too expensive for my pocket.

I've been thinking about the 910, but it's been made very clear to me that the 910 isn't going to happen while I have a perfectly good 310.  I just hope my 310 doesn't have an unfortunate accident.  That would be a real shame.

Lol, I have a 610 and the additional gains aren't worth the cost but as you say 'if' something was to happen to it I'd go for the 910, hopefully welldown in price by then.

Got in an hour on the trainer this afternoon.  I had thought about getting the bike out of the basement and getting outside since it was a sunny 45 out today, but decided against it since my trainer tire is a pain to get on and off.  Anyone else use the Sufferfest trainer videos?  They are pretty good for giving you some structured workouts on the trainer.

Well I'm only doing half of my workout today.  I went out to the Above and Beyond show last night (which was so awesome it was totally worth it).  So I was up till at least 3am I'm sure and attempted to sleep on a friends couch.   When I did go swim I REALLY didn't want to finish my laps, but did considering I'll be watching the Super bowl tonight...

Spinervals!!!!!  I really like mine, they keep me entertained when normally I would want to kill myself from boredom.

I need to buy a few of these Spinnervals

Adrian, thanks for posting that Give Kids a Smile event! We ended up seeing 192 children. I have been so focused on that the past month my training has became nonexistent, which is really bad with that 10k coming up on the 18th of THIS month! Going to get back into nice and slow to see where I'm at. It may just be a training run that cost 17$ or so.

Ughhh!...

Upper respiratory infection put me down for a while.  Coming out the other side now.  Went on a walk last night.  Can finally breathe threw my nose again and coughing is minimal.  Ready to get back at it, hopefully try today.

On the bright side my Adamo Typhoon came in and I got it put on.  Looking forward to getting it dialed in and taking it on a long ride.

Started the morning with an 0500 spin. Heavy training drills: Full Circles, 1-Legged and Standing.

1,800m swim over lunch.

Who's coming with me?????? (In my best Jerry McGuire voice)

ME! Okay, you've inspired me. Not sure I'll hit 1800 in the time I have for lunch, but we'll find out!

Re: wetsuit for that August race - do you think 70 degrees requires a wetsuit?? Personally, I tend to run warm in general. But I literally have no comparison for this. Haven't swum in a lake in several years. Should I just feel it out as I start to swim outside? And how few lake swims can I get away with in terms of training? I know I should practice sighting...and clearly a big difference is not being able to push off the walls...the swim is .8 miles. Anybody have training tips or recommendations for best way to prepare for my first lake swim race?

Oh yeah, randomly ran a 5k "prediction race" on Sunday morning. I haven't run more than a mile consecutively since Christmas Day, but I've been running sprints once a week for the last month. So it was kind of an experiment. I predicted I would run it in 35:10 (yes, I'm slow, but in the past I've regularly nailed just under a 12:00/mile pace in untimed training runs comfortably, so I figured I'd step it up a touch from that). During the race my legs felt great, but my breath was tight. I felt a little above my comfort zone, but figured it was just cos I was out of running-shape. I pushed through it, ran the whole distance, and finished in 33:10! Miles off my prediction, so no trophy, but I was pretty psyched at that time! Clearly the sprints have kept me in shape, and I figure if I were to add one distance run/week I could probably hit 10min/mile pace in no time!

I have always been told that if it is a wetsuit legal race (and you have a wetsuit) to use it! 70 degrees is the temp of the water I will be swimming in this year and I will have mine on for sure. As far as lake swimming, I have gone to a few open water clinics and they couldn't stress enough about practicing sighting by using landmarks (trees, lake house, whatever) to help you around the course and to get comfortable swimming in water that is generally not as clear or even dirty compared to in a pool. Good luck!

Thanks! Ok, guess I'll start saving & trying to find wetsuits to try on.

You don't necessarily have to buy one as they are available to rent at a few different swim and tri shops in the cities. (And if you do choose to buy, ask them about used ones for sale.) Regarding the "must use" in 70 degree water, you really don't have to but it does add speed and efficiency to your swim. Thus, the "if it's legal, use it" approach.

We regularly get into Lake Bryant in Eden Prairie for group lake swims once it's open. Feel free to join in!

Excellent! Thank you! btw, got in 1200m on my break. Just for kicks, I swam it continuously. I've never done that before. It took 33:11. I wasn't pushing myself for speed cos I was actually hoping to do the full mile, but by the 1/2 mile mark I could tell my form was starting to suffer. Probably could have toughed out another 8 laps, but it was time to get back to work. Next time!

More running drills yesterday and some running today to concentrate on form. Also hopped on a stationary bike today, waiting for my bike is getting old.

Down about 5 pounds from where I started when I started training which for me is pretty freaking exciting. Especially given that I haven't had to resort to terribly extreme measures (I'm doing the mostly veggies vegan thing, but not going too crazy about it) to achieve this goal.

New goal is to make sure my weight keeps going the way I want it to after my job at a cupcake shop starts this weekend. They keep telling us to try as many flavors as possible so we can make recommendations to customers, and since I don't really live by the "I'm training so I can eat whatever I want" philosophy trying to figure out how to time my cupcake consumption so I sample as many types as possible without totally screwing with my nutritional plan. This is an actual concern of mine right now as I also don't want to consume too much dairy because it makes me sick. I think I've figured out a plan so I'm good for now.

Also, officially registered for my races for this year, except the one later in the season that I'm kinda debating right now.

Took the bike out yesterday.  Felt good to get moving again, although I could tell I was off a layoff.  16 Miles through the back roads of the hill country (aptly named by the way) did a body good.  I think I'm gonna love my new saddle.

Foggy a question for you since I know you ride an Adamo.  Does it sit further back or further forward than your old seat.  Felt like there was more weight on my elbows yesterday.

Thanks

Yikes, I could not be allowed to work in that environment! LOL My rule would be more like TEN cupcakes keeps the ...etc etc

Can you make a point of only trying small samples? Like one bite of each sample that would maybe add up to one whole cupcake? If you track calories, you can actually fit that into your macros, it just requires diligence and mindfullness.

Congrats on registering for your races! That's such a great feeling.
