Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Pretty sure workout for the day is going to be shoveling. At least 2' of snow. Can't even attempt to move the cars yet, not that I'd be going anywhere anyway as the whole state is pretty much shut down. Going out for round 2 with the snow in a little bit. |

Whew, I was just hoping you and Sarah had power. They keep talking about how there are over 500,000 without power. Hope you get your shoveling done but remember snow is heavy so a little at a time. My neighbor had a Heart attack shoveling his a few years ago and died.
Stay warm!! |

Champion 7233 | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed jonD81 - 2013-02-08 5:20 AM For those of you that live in a more relaxed part of the country than the immediate Boston area (which is pretty much anywhere besides maybe New York) I feel bad for you that you'll never know the absolute mass hysteria that accompanies extreme weather like a blizzard. You know that scene in Finding Nemo with the seagulls and "Mine, mine, mine, mine" that's how everyone is right now except it's "Snow, snow, snow, snow". Everyone is so wound up about the storm. Yeah, it's supposed to be a lot of snow but chances are it will snow, then stop, we'll shovel, then go about our lives complaining about the snow. If you ever really want to see people lose their proverbeal sh*t, plan a vacation to the suburbs of Boston in the winter and pray for a snow storm. You'll get home and appreciate the sanity of those around you. I'm in philly and we got to watch all of this happen minus the snow. I grew up in ohio with lake effect snow and some nasty cold and watching people here freak out about the chance of snow is amusing to say the least. Hopefully those of you further north that actually got this are dealing ok. |

Swam 12 x100 yards Swam 3 x 200's those 200's are long but I really need to get used to longer distances. That's a great start! It'll come with time and soon those 200s will feel easy (or you'll be going much faster and the distance alone will seem like nothing). |

Veteran 421 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed We have power and have had it the entire time. Went out snowshoeing earlier, but then had to get to work shoveling. My arms are tired! Now just getting settled in for an eventual movie night with a fire. No complaints here! Oh, and to keep things training related, I'm hoping to get on the trainer tomorrow and start regaining the momentum I was beginning to build before I got sick. There's snow now, but mid May will be here soon enough! |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Lots of shoveling here today, no power lost though which is great. We have a few older neighbors and you couldn't even see their cars, so I think I dug out 4 other people plus my car and my wife's car. Before the last round (had to shovel 3 times today) I actually had dreams of getting on the trainer tonight but I'm pretty sure that's not happening. Just hope the Y is open tomorrow for a swim seeing as it's been 2 weeks. |

Member 275 Cleveland OH | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Went out for a run, planned on doing 10k, ended up changing my mind halfway through the run to run for time not by miles. set my goal of 1hr of running. kept looking at my watch regardless mainly out of habbit. figured I might as well try for 8 miles in 1hr so I did it with 4 secs left. Felt great then, had about 1/3 of a mile walk home so had time to cool down and did some lunges and stretching while I was walking home. Most of the snow has melted off the sidewalks, still a few slippery spots, had to hurdle some ice but it was all good. I posted earlier about the Relay around Columbus, We will have 6 men on my team so basically I will be running 3 of 18 legs of the 105 mile total. I will be running 7.5, 5.1 and 6.6 miles I am guessing a few hours apart. for a total of 19.1 miles, The farthest I have ever ran was today at 8 miles. Before that I have done 20 or so 10k's. My question is what do I do between runs? I know the obvious, stretching, eating, hydrating, and staying loose. What other things can you suggest?

Good luck though. Finally back in the pool today after almost 2 weeks. Felt really fresh, although I was a beat bit from shoveling all day yesterday. I still don't really go with a plan besides just swim. I'm just doing longer sets. I did the Ragnar Relay Tennessee in November last year, it was 196 miles with 12 runners. It was really fun, I'm sure you'll have a blast!! It was hard for us to stretch because you basically have to finish your leg, cool down a few minutes, then get in the van and drive to get to the next relay point so your next runner can loosen up. I brought a massage roller (The Stick) and a foam roller and that helped. Biofreeze would have been nice to have too but I didn't bring any! |

Struggling through thigh deep snow with about 10 foot disability, complete whiteout, constant 60-70mph winds. Sleeping in those conditions is not comfortable. Happy to get back to training hope everyone has had a good weekend! |

I've been an angry hermit the last couple of days (weekend) - this whole injury thing has kinda got to me I suppose. I guess on the positive, my house is cleaner than it's been in years. Got a 30' spin in yesterday, going to do the same today. We'll see how things go from there. At least my pain seems to be disappearing. Hopefully I can give running a go again by the middle/end of the week. |

My foot pretty much feels better so I'm jonesing to get back out running, but seeing as we just had 2' of snow dumped on us looks like I'll be waiting at least until the dr appt in 10 days. Way to keep moving up in distance! I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've moved up from my 50y warmups to 100y warmups. I did a couple sets of 300y today (that's with a 50y either backstroke of kickboard in the middle). My pull is feeling a lot stronger and I'm feeling faster with my increase in distance. I just finished my session of 3 private swim lessons and I signed up for 3 more on a bi-weekly basis. Now it's time to improve a little more between every 2 weeks.... I'm starting to get a little more confident for an Oly in July! |

I was thinking more like a once a month basis? I want to take a lesson then have some time to work on it, have a refresher lesson, work on that and then bring it all together before the summer starts. We'll see how it works. Guess I should sign up for the lesson first. Everything has been crazy lately. Did a good half hour spin tonight. Raised my FTP by 10 the other day just 'cus. This was 1/2 hour which was 10'@90%, 10'@100% and 10'@110% with no break. Definitely felt the last few minutes. |

Actually did all my Valentine Day gift legwork for my wife about a week ahead of time so I don't have to sweat that at the last minute. |

I'm just too comfy in bed in the morning to get up on time, then, I'm too lazy or busy to do anything once I get out of work. I know the guilt will win out eventually, but it's difficult to find the motivation this time of year, especially since we got all of this snow. Okay, my mini rant is over. I think I'm just going to take the rest of the week off to relax and stop stressing about it, then jump back into things next week. That will be the start of 12 weeks before my first race, so it seems to be a fitting time to remotivate. Keep up the good work everyone, I'll be using all of you as my motivation soon enough! |
