It's got that bitchin basket and all. Then these two young 'uns try to stay in my draft, and won't take their turn out front. What is UP with the younger generation? It's called Etiquette I dropped 'em the next block. A neighbor told me they got this pic. HA! AND STAY OFF MY LAWN DANG IT! |

Then two weeks later I run that bridge again for my third consecutive Portland Marathon. It's a beautiful bridge but a very steep climb to get there. Portland does an excellent job with their races. They are wanting to make the Portland Triathlon an acclaimed national race. I won't be a bit surprised if they do. |

I used his style of run/walk/run to prepare for my first half-marathon. It's much easier on the legs as you're building up. I also ice my knees and calves after most runs. Long runs I take an ice bath for 15 minutes. The first two minutes of the bath stinks but it's tolerable after that. I usually drink hot cocoa to make it better. |

There's a hill at the end of the route I usually ride that is fairly popular with the local riders. By the time I get there I'm usually tired and its a real slog to get up - its longish and gets progressively steeper on the way up. Every other time one of the local hotshots comes shooting past me while I struggle on looking for one more easier gear. One day I hope to be able to really hit it - my nemisis on the bike seems to be long hills - we just don't have that many. I don't know why - this picture reminds me of that. |

I probably could have done another 2400 towards that this week, but work and life got in the was. I did make my very conservative run goal of 50 miles. Now setting them up for next month - I'm upping swim by 50% and running by 20%. If I keep going to the pool and swim 3x a week, I should hit 15,000 yards easy-peasy. I also plan on planning out and signing up for my races this year. Goals this month: Swim 15,000k yards

Bruce, this is great! Are you using any sort of training plan? They are the framework for getting a goal accomplished. For the swim its the 0 to 1 mile in six week plan, but I do the workout twice For the run, I have a plan, but its been nasty here and I haven't gotten outside to run half as much as I want to. Hopefully March will start to be OK and I can piece together a plan for the Long Island Marathon on May 5 (4?). Right now I'm just trying to get the number of days I run and swim up then I'll judiciously add some distance. Short answer - I don't have a plan. I'm winging it, and I'm OK with that right now. |

CLOSED FOR TRAINING jgwinn0 - 2013-01-30 8:52 AM Gadget/infotainment question here, I've currently got an older (entry level) Polar that I use as an HRM for running, and one of the things I like about it is I can jsut wear the thing as a watch, not just as another accessory to include in the gym bag. I've got a CSC-10 and the Garmin HRM strap that I use for Trainerroad on my bike, but have been itching a bit to get gps on my runs, and outdoor workouts. Any thoughts here? Considering I've got the harm strap and CSC10 already, it looks like I could either go with the base model Garmin 910xt and be covered across the board, or a combo of the Garmin 610 and Edge510 bike computer for about $300 each?? Right now I track my swimming with a Timex ironman stat stopped recognizing the HRM strap a while ago. Any thoughts or advice here? I've focused on the Garmin since i've got the hrm and speed sensor already I'm a numbers kinda person so i love being able to track metrics on my performance and workouts whenever possible, I've also been shopping around for some neat gadgets. I found the DC Rainmaker site to have the most comprehensive reviews out there. Based solely on what I've read (I don't own any training gadgets except a few handy GPS apps on my iphone), you'd probably be safe with the Garmin 910xt. As for me, I've narrowed down my search to the Garmin 410 or the Timex Global Trainer. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be happy whichever way you decide. |

I bought that as my first watch last year. It's a solid watch with some features that are better than garmin's 310xt which I recently bought also. Garmin's gps is superior however. |

I ran out of anti-chafe after giving my Tri Club samples. I was told I'm getting a big supply in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout. I do have their liquid bandage which is freaking amazing for burns, cuts, and blisters. If you've got a need, let me know. Anti-chafe will be out soon. |

I actually didn't even use the zip-ties on the crank-arm...I just used black electrical tape. I couldn't get the zip-tie to hold it properly and the tape works amazingly! Once you have the sensor on the crank arm, line up the sensor on the frame (I did use the zip-ties for that one). Then, place the magnet on the wheel. As long as your lights light up properly, you're good to go! I have installed 3 now and it's pretty easy, however, I really had to read between the lines and study it some the first time I tried putting it on my bike! Good luck - I'm sure that once you get it on there you will LOVE it! |

Good question. I have had it where the light didn't light up, but when I steadily turned the crank arm, the watch would eventually pick up the signal. Have you tried calling Garmin Support? I have had luck with their CS in the past... Good luck - I hope you get it working soon! |

Extreme Veteran 377 Ogallala, Nebraska | Subject: RE: mcgilmartin's 2013 Mentor Group~ let's get swimming! CLOSED FOR TRAINING Does anyone have experience with the Garmin GPS bike computers? After my wife saw the data I was getting from my bike with the GSC 10 and my 910xt she wants one. What she basically wants is a Garmin that will give her cadence, distance and speed along with her heart rate. She doesn't want a watch but a bike specific computer (she has a Garmin 210 now). I know nothing about them and wasn't sure if there was a big difference between the 500 series and the 800 series and if a non-competitive person would even notice. She's starting to get back to riding after her knee surgery with the goal of BRAN (bike ride across Nebraska) in 2014. Any help would be appreciated! Steve |
