Me, I squeeked out 13, maybe 14(If i can get on my bike today!) What does june bring? 4 solid weeks of training. If you are doing 2 S/B/R per week min. that should put everyone at 24 workouts. So lets make it 26/30 S/B/R! Min. times...S-20minutes, B-30 minutes, R-30minutes. What are everyone's weekend plans? I am hoping to sell my scuba gear so than go buy a new bike!! One can hope... I'm at 13 as of my run this morning and I'm headed to the pool after work so that will make 14 (unless something derails that plan). |

Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Love the 21 idea! What kind of bike are you looking at? I'm hoping to get some workouts in, but my husband is gone for work- so that makes it a little more challenging. Probably biking with the trailer to an ice cream shop to keep the kiddo happy. I need to find one that is ~10 miles away, or find a more roundabout route to the one we usually go to that's ~6 miles away. |

Buying a bike trainer was one of the best purchases I ever made - rain, snow, etc., - no problems. Add a big fan and a trainer road subscription, and you can build some serious bike power (and saddle callouses) without leaving the house. |

Expert 1058 Fallon, Nevada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Between the town I live in and the town I work in its 70 miles one way...I struggle to find a pool available for lap swim that is open before I leave for work, (as if I would get up by 4:30) or after I get home. So imagine how pleased I was to find a Master's swim in the town between my home and work towns...here in Northern Nevada all towns are spread 30 miles apart, must be something to do with a days ride by horse and wagon. Although, when they say, "Are you here for master's swim?", it kinda freaks me out and I want to turn around and leave I was excited to be swimming with a group. It has been really difficult finding pool time since the based closed theirs on the weekend. With all that said I was hugely disappointed when they said the Master's swim will meet at 5pm from now on...WTH???? Back to the drawing board. This group really pushed me...Wednesday we did 20 50's with five poolside push-ups between each followed by another 20/50 yds with 10 pull-ups followed by each. I NEVER push myself that hard! Sooooo disappointed. |

Did it in 8:16 which is a little better than I though I would do. Get to do it again on Sunday followed with a 50 min bike ride and a 10 min run. Should be a fun weekend!! |

I ended up with 20/17, the last two workouts being yesterday. I celebrated with a Russian River Pliny the Elder Imperial IPA and a Damnation, took today off to give the legs a little break. June (this weekend) I start with a 68 mile bike ride and probably a 20-30 min swim on Sunday. I have a Half Marathon in Mammoth on the 23rd but since my GF and I are making it a road trip I don't know how many workouts I'll be able to complete after this race, regardless I'll enter the challenge just to see if I can can succeed. |

Kind of a spontaneous decision to train for a tri, but I had to have a goal. Very hard to keep up the running and biking without something to shoot for. How hard? I haven't run more than 20 run miles in a month all year and hadn't ridden my bike at all! I feel like a slug! However, I'm feeling really optimistic at this point. I'm sure I'll get a reality check sooner or later, but I'm hopeful I won't lay a complete egg if I actually enter the sprint tri I'm considering in August. Rode the bike three times this week. 17, 24 and 24 miles. On the third ride it felt like I was going to have a terrible ride. My legs burned the entire time and there was a lot more wind than the other two rides as well as 1/2 gal. of water in my camelback. (Ya'll talk about Florida humidity, we do it pretty well here in Mississippi!) Well, to my suprise I rode an even faster time! And then today I went out for a short, easy run because my legs are shot!!! But again, I ran my fastest pace since April. Expected to pace between 8:30 and 8:45 but ended up sub 8:00 for 2.25! Like I said, I'm sure reality will hit me soon but I'm super excited to see improvement so soon. Thanks again for everyone's encouragement!!! Bill Tonights Selection: Sam Adams Alpine Spring. What are ya'll having? Bill- Are you following a training plan, or going on your own. 24 mile training ride is solid for a sprint distance. 8:00 pace is great. You will do outstanding if the event is in August. You're "already there" to finish. Keep up the training, and you may podium finish! I'm having a Vodka beverage tonight. Kevin: Thanks for the support. No, I'm not on any training plan. Still trying to "figure it out". I have 11 weeks until the race and I'm trying to find plans that match my fitness level. I've seen some that are very intense and others that look too easy. I may pick and choose from each and come up with my own. I'm planning on going to the pool today for my first swim. Not too sure what to expect. I imagine it will be pretty tough. I have to be careful not to over-train because I battle chronic tendonosis in my shoulders and elbows. I found a swim plan called "zero to 1650 in six weeks". I hope to try using this plan by the middle of June. If you have any training plan ideas, please let me know. I'm really in the dark right now. Thanks! Bill http://www.amazon.com/Triathlete-Magazines-Complete-Triathlon-ebook... Training plans are all over. BT has great plans that are easily adaptable. For deeper analysis behind the science of a plan, and the why's of a plan, I like this book. Thanks Kevin! I just order the book. Hopefully I'll get a grasp on what I need to be doing. Specifically swimming. Went to the pool for the first time yesterday and it went about like I expected. Very poor! I guess thats what I get for not swimming for about the past 15 years! I'm planning on two swims next week and then bumping it to 3 the next. Have a lot of ground to make up there. I found additional swim plans yesterday and think I've found something that will work once I can get more comfortable in the water. Well, off the asphalt this morning. Hope to run 3.5 to 4.5 and take the day off tomorrow. Have a good one and as always, thanks for the advice! Bill |

The Dr. doesn't have an explanation other than overuse, said we could do an MRI, but not sure if the insurance will allow it. So the plan for now is just go run and bike and see what happens I guess. I have rested it for most of the month of May and it is no better or no worse, so I will just ice it and brace it and work through it. May be just getting old Anyway, I'm in for the June challenge, but I'm gonna try for 35 workouts, should be able to get it done now that I can add in swimming. Also decided to make logging food a priority in June. I fell off track, but I'm going to get back and get er done so I am ready for my race in September! |

Set up some St. Louis ribs with dry rub last night - had to earn them this morning - my longest run to date, a nice, even 13.1 miles. I shudder to think of doing twice that in October, but that's what training is for. Originally posted by podemma Just over two weeks till my first race on June 16th! Be prepared when you get there so see some of the elite folks hanging around - at my sprint in the middle-of-no-where Illinois, I saw more 6-pack abs and $2,000 wheelsets than I can to recount - very intimidating. Not sure about my June goals, first sprint is on the 22nd so I'll do some tapering the week before (that's a euphemism for fewer workouts and more beer in my book). Casual 10-mile bike this morning with the kiddos, not much of a workout but the weather is beautiful and we all had a great time. I'm looking to fit in a nice long run tomorrow at dawn, it's been a while since I did any real distance, then maybe a swim in the evening. Depends on getting all the yardwork done this afternoon tho - Enjoy the weekend, everyone! |

The race is having a First timers clinic the day before and I plan on doing that. I feel that I am as physically prepared as I can be. Most of the nerves are coming from transition and pacing. So with that in mind here are the questions I have: 1: Transitions. I have watched lots of videos and read lots of articles on transitions but they still really worry me so any tips to help me prepare for doing them smoothly? 2: Pacing. I have no issue doing the race distances individually but I find when I do my bricks I start out running too fast. Any tips for pacing? I don't have a Garmin or a heart rate monitor so I'm kind of flying blind. |
