Today, my Garmin battery gave out during my run warm up.  It was extremely liberating to dump the giant Garmin back in the car and take off the ever so annoying HR strap as I put Ripley into the (windows cracked open) truck...

Luckily I did this exact 3 mile repeat run last week, so knew exactly where to hit my mile marks.  Not sure, but I bet I ran them faster than when I have the watch.  Sometimes its fun to just turn it loose!

A few things, reading back over this morning's posts:

Bryce, what is a "short" 10k?  are you going to take a shortcut?

Erica- I am a huge fan of my public library for cookbooks.  It gives us a chance to try out different recipes and if we end up liking the cookbook then we can always buy it.  Our library system in SF is amazing, we can pretty much order anything online and they send it to our local branch which is a walk from home!  (then again there is always, foodnetwork.com)  my best friend works for their website and it really is amazing!

DJ- when you say different flavors are you talking barbeque, salt and vinegar, sour cream and cheddar???  I am a chip lover and it is one of my major downfalls.  Lately Kathy is buying us popchips, which are maybe just a little better for us but of course we should be eating home-made pita chips or something like that.

These days I've stopped using my Garmin for the run and go by feel.  It's odd because it's always the breathing that makes me feel like I've been working hard during the run, but it's the heart that makes me feel that I'm working hard on the bike.

Flavor - I meant flavor of any food.  I *know* the difference between using reduce fat or low fat mozzarella cheese over whole milk...for example.  Many people can't tell, but I can.  If the food is too "peppery" or spicy, I normally don't eat it or just have one or two bites.  I never use any salt/pepper/spices (with some exceptions) in my food. Etc.

Agree. Michael is that show. I thought WF is only guest starring?

x3 on Michael making the show. Dunno about WF... just saw him in the preview and then Tivo cut off so I didn't hear what they said.

Anything shorter than 10miles is short now to me. Isn't it funny as our training progresses over time how what you thought was long is now is that all we have to do. Last year I thought 7miles was long and wondering how I could ever get that far and now I am beyond that and I think of that as a short jaunt.

That's one lean bird.  He must be out running a lot of "short" 10ks so that nobody is interested in inviting him over for dinner.

LOL to all.......I'm so lucky I don't have a job.

Spent an insane amount of time at the Apple Store explaining why I couldn't wait for a replacement nano - can't run without music!!  Training without a Garmin would truly take me down.

Garmin may just be more critical than Pepsi.  Maybe.

I can. I'm deaf. Don't need music. Silence is better. :-P

I have an old nano that is just sitting there collecting dust. Do you want it ... for cheap? Nano 3rd Gen, in pink.

Au Contraire....to each his own.  In fact, I strongly recommend you do that race in May with absolutely no technology,  water for all your fueling needs, ditch your clip ons and your chamoise....just to keep it simple and freeing.....

Roflol!!! Way too funny. . Made my morning. I'm waiting for the pool to open. I thought the swim starts at 5 am. Forgot to turn on my alarm and woke up half hour later than I wanted and had 15 mins to get ready. Arrived at the pool, it's closed then I double checked the time. Starts at 530. Ugh!!! Waiting for half hour. BT time. Totally made my morning.
