IMCA70.3--Kyla-our Cali girl finished 1st in her AG, with a 4:47, she's going back to Kona! 1:26 on the 1/2mary...dayum! And Rinny, what can we say, she is amazing, the finish was a 10sec win over the 2nd place female finisher and Mirinda had to run her down and that last mile is over this bridge overpass thing that seriously sucks every ounce of energy out of your already burning quads..1:18 on her half, omg. I can't wait to do this race again, I loved it.  Hug your loved ones, peeps!  We are lucky to be able to do this stuff!   | |

Came home from my measily little slow run and checked in on the Cali girl and jaw-dropped at the 1:26 run. Awesome. She had to work for that one today. Cool to hear your perspective on the last mile, Kim! You will be back and you will be awesome and crazy fast(er than you already are!!!)! |

| Expert 945 Auburn AL | Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - Closed Congrats Sam! Awesome Trainer ride Kyla. Cant even imagine that time on the trainer. Bad day here on the bike. We were doing the Double H which is an 82 miler. And, 68 miles into the ride, I was up front in my bars against a headwind. I hit a rock and my front tire was thrown off course and I probably slowed a bit, and David...drafting behind me caught my wheel. My bike went sideways, and somehow I got my left foot down and caught myself and threw my momentum back across the road and stayed upright. David, who caught my wheel moving across from left to right was thrown down. It appears that he was thrown down and hit his head on the pavement and broke his helmet and fractured his pelvis. When I got to him, he was out, but came back to us after the paramedics got there. He suffered a concussion, and kept asking if he hit my wheel...probably a dozen times. The ambulance gave him a ride for the last 12 miles. A pretty scary deal, and really makes you wonder if it is worth it sometimes. Be careful out there! |

| Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - Closed Did my first OWS of the season. OMF'ingG...the water's cold. Did pretty well, but for some reason, I feel like I can't rotate my arms over my head as well (high elbows). Could it be the wetsuit or the cold water tightening my muscles? It feels like if I tried to lift it, it "snaps" back down...making me feel like it's the wetsuit.
Did a bike ride afterwards....the HEAT (93ish or more) was god-awful. Had to turn around after half hour of climbing. |

There is always risk in anything we do when we get out of bed. Don't stop living because stuff like that happens. My friend was riding with Gov Bill Ritter when the same thing happened to the Gov a few broken ribs and stuff and he was back on the bike in about 4 weeks against doctors orders. |

Barry - I'm so glad you're okay, and I hope your friend recovers quickly. It's so scary how quickly something like that can happen. I have to say, I often wonder whether it's worth the risk. Even though the weather is getting better, I'll continue doing most of my cycling on the trainer for that reason. I know it's a trade-off in terms of handling skills, hills, etc., but that's okay with me. (ETA: I do make sure I keep my handling skills up so I'm not unsafe in races.) I even saw someone on a QR TRIATHLON BIKE with no helmet and not even clip on shoes!! He just rode with his sneakers... This is why this type of cyclists makes the "good" ones look bad. UGH!
