Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012Hi. I only take a few weeks at a time off, when my body says I am overreaching. I thought it was crazy to take the winter off and start again in the spring. If you want to make the physiological gains there has to be consistency. I did that long run once before in about 7 hrs 45 mins. It was crappy weather that time too last year. I wont ever take a year off, just keep modifying my schedule with the proper amount of recovery. Sooner or later my arthritic knees will fail but I hope to have an "official" 50 and 100 miler in by then. Then I will switch to biking. I don't like it but I will go stir crazy otherwise. As long as you Balance Running with Family, you shouldn't have to take a year off. If there is conflict then a schedule change is in order. Wow. I am babbling on this morning. lol. Before I ever ran an"official" 50k, I had done 3 already. Out there on your own for over 5-6 hours builds mental strength you don't get racing. There isnt any cheering section, just you and wind and trees. It is all very Zen like. The primal essence of running. Love it. |
