20 min run, Z2 max (155 bpm)...I love taper week...

Maybe some stretching and core work at lunch...hum-de-dum...this is strange...

Was supposed to do a 1000 yd open water swim tomorrow, but considering there will be thunderstorms, I'll stay in the pool...

Hi guys!  Went to Masters this morning for the 1st time in ages, and it was good.  Arms are tired from lifting last night, which is also good   I've been having trouble finding time for strength wo's so they don't interfere w/ other wo's, but that's impossible so I need to just suck it up and do them.

Btw, I was able to hang with the others in my lane, which I couldn't do the last time I went to Masters.  Yay!!!

Have a fantastic Wed -- only 3 days til the weekend!

Nice swim, Susan!  I am really struggling with the OWS.  I was at Boulder Reservoir for over an hour yesterday and only got in ~16 minutes of swimming due to my F*&^#@g! asthma again.  I am so frustrated!  I usually use my inhaler <1x/month when I'm not in open water.  I have no problems running, biking or pool swimming!  Anyway, I could go on and on and....GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Hope everyone's having a good day

It'll get better - it did for me!  The tight wetsuit doesn't help with the breathing, either.  You're tough - you'll beat this!

Wait, so.... you only need the inhaler when you're doing an OWS? But not for running, biking or pool swimming?

Um... why? Anxiety? Colder water? Some other reason?

(I had an asthma attack yesterday. I'm still wheezing. I walked into a store, and couldn't breathe. Someone else said that the store "smelled funny." I didn't smell anything, but apparently, something got to me.)

runrachierun - 2008-06-09 5:24 PM Sorry team, I have been out of commission. I did complete my very first tri on Saturday! Unfortunately, I was sick before I started, and I think I made things worse. I still am not going to be able to work out today...I promise to work extra hard once I get better!

bummer!  tough way to start out the month!

fwiw, it's ok to adjust your goals due to illness - trust me, more than one of us has had to do that

let Susan, Dee or me know if you feel like that is something you want to know more about

Congrats on the tri and I'm glad you are starting to feel better!

I do need to talk with someone about adjusting my goals...it looks like I am out until at least the weekend. I have bronchitis and everyone up here in the Pacific Northwest is coming down with pneumonia...two people in my running club have it. So, I continue to have significant chest pain and difficulty breathing, so I am NOT going to push myself. What can I do?

It is more than ok to adjust your goals under the circumstances - what we've done in the past is to adjust the goals based on the # of days unable to workout

so, for example if there are 30 days in the month and you were sick 3 - reduce each of your goals by 10%

Given the fact that you guys are both starting off the challenge sick though - You may want to adjust them a bit more, my thought being that if you are coming into your workouts being a bit weak from getting back into the swing - you may not be able to work out at the same level - make sense?

- not sure what the timing is for that to be able to happen, but probably soon

I'll probably have a better idea of how I should adjust after I try to run tomorrow... and maybe after I try a day of regular diet (I'm still on potatoes and apples   )

The great news is that I'm down 5lbs and my abdomen is/was rock hard (though more from consistent muscle contractions, eewww)

First of all, and most importantly: YOUR HEALTH COMES FIRST. If you have chest pain and breathing difficultly, you are right -> Do NOT push yourself. (You should probably also think about seeing a doctor!)

Next: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE CHALLENGE.

As stated in #1: "Your health comes first." Therefore, I have "greyed out" your percentages on the spreadsheet. Your goals are still listed. (Just not your progress towards them.)

So here's "a plan:"

1) Go get healthy.
2) When you are healthy, come back and we will discuss revising your goals.
3) If you decide at some point that you'd rather withdraw from the challenge, let me know and I will drop you (with no penalty to your team).

Chest pain and difficulty breathing, to me, as serious issues. Do what you need to do to get better. Worst case, we'll drop you from the challenge, and name you "Cheesecake Cheerleader!:

- Dee

Yes, we can discuss this. See my reply to Rachie above.... First and most importantly, get healthy. Then, after you feel better, we'll discuss your challenge goals.

Let's discuss the actual revision after Heather and Rachel are feeling better.

I'd rather wait until they're healthy, then discuss how to revise the goals. In the meantime, I've "greyed out" their percentages. (The goals are still there, but the percentage completion has been removed.)

As for the timing, I'm not concerned about it. When they're ready to participate again, we can discuss it all then. (Health comes first.)

I'm good at GIVING at advice. I'm not so good at taking it.

Besides, it's just a shoulder,   a shoulder and a knee,   a shoulder, a knee and some lungs.

Not so bad, I guess.  Actually I'm amazed at the difference they make!  The bad part was when I was "screaming" (i.e., riding faster than I really like) and a car passed me.  I decided I needed to come off the bars and was pretty wobbly.  But I made it successfully!

The bad news is that I have a problem with my derailleur.   Hopefully I can get this fixed post haste -- race in a little over a week!
