I did cut it short as I feel like I've been pushing things, plus it was absolutely dark so couldn't even see my splits. Felt good though. The key for me though is to get in a good long run this weekend. Have a good day G&G's. |

Two weeks ago I was sure I could finish my 5K in a few weeks running the whole thing and in around 40 minutes (yes I know how slow I am), but this last week has felt awful! Because training tears your body up. In a good way, but it fatigues you and wears you down. You only see gains when recovered, but you can't get gains if you don't train fatigued. You've ran what, five times in the last 7 days? You are just tired, but tired is ok if you aren't pushing to the point of injury. I experienced this with my swimming this year. I did a 1000 yard time trial toward the end of a four month training cycle and was 45 seconds SLOWER than the time trial I did during the first month of training. Well, following the taper/recovery I ended up swimming the half mile about a minute and a half faster than I had ever done before. Remember this: It's not about being faster tomorrow, it's about being as fast as you can be on race day. Very true very true...Nothing really hurts its just fatique. I don't think I am pushing to the point of injury...plus I am going to have to take a good part of the weekend off to be there for my DH as he runs the marathon |

I had a buddy who is a much better runner than me get caught at mile 22 and taken off the course. It was his first marathon attempt, too. It got to him and he hasn't found the motivation to go out and train for another one, though he has started to talk about unfinished business. |

Master 1989![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New Jersey | Subject: RE: Ghosts and Ghouls Team ThreadI had waited all summer for the Chicago Marathon - and all I heard about was how cold it could possibly be. Then the freakin' heat wave hit. In a way, I lucked out because I was injured so I only got in 3 weeks of training. (Yes, I wrote that correctly.) So I did a Gallo-walk plan - walking a minute every 10 minutes. Some spectators even laughed at me "walking only 10 mins into the race." But I finished the race, never had a problem with the water running out and even did better than I expected. I was confused why no one was cheering when I finished.

Yeah it was very odd as a spectator...I had traveled all over the city watching my husband and when we got to the 18th mile we were like why are so many people walking because in our travels we had not heard about them "calling off" the race. It was just miserable....Robert never had problems with water either, he said you just had to sometimes wait for them to pour it but it was there, but he may have been ahead of the real trouble as he was on pace for a 4:15-4:30 before they forced people to walk. |

-It was not a happy/health tree, so I put it out of its misery. A mean tree? Did it eat kites? It was not a good tree for micro-climate, was planted in part shade when it needs full sun, is really susceptible to diseases and pests(and suffering from them), shading plants that should have more light, and just plain ugly. It was in the school's arboretum-in a bed designated for a different plant family. I generally avoid taking down trees, but this one had so many issues that there wasn't much of an alternative. |

I am a little less tolerant of heat than other people. You need to realize, though, that in the PNW we have very little air conditioning. |
