I washed it, and like the three others, I put it in the dryer.  Ended up with half a dryer full of fuzzies and half a bath mat.  Ooops.

I bet you had the most fun cleaning all the fuzzies out of the dryer and lint trap, right?  Wink

I give you credit for cleaning.  When I go away I'm lucky if there is a clear path into the house.  If my husband has cleaned, it would just be enough to find the bath mat.  It would never get washed.  (He does lots of good things around the house, but cleaning is not one of them.)

I had my weekly weigh-in yesterday and I'm down another 2 lbs so maybe I'm doing something right.

Congrats! I hear ya on the struggle with nutrition!

I'm down 5 since the 3rd of jan., bye-bye xmas cookies! I've been struggling a bit with eating enough to fuel without getting sluggish, and not eating too much to keep losing. Learning to listen a little harder to The Hunger vs. the needs.

Happy Wednesday!

Well so far so good on the training - I now its only week 1 but I'm following it.  I rode my bike on the trainer last night and got up to run 30min in 19degree weather this morning.  I was going to go to Master's class tonight for my swim but I have to move that up to 7pm or so b/c LOST premieres tonight and we all have our priorities.  LOL

It's the only show I watch without fail and I can't miss the 2 hr. season opener!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Nice work - way to go!

It's definitely hard to find the right balance.

Nice work, Kiri and Daniel.  It definitely gets even harder the more into training you get as your body keeps wanting more and more to feed on.  That's why the good habits and tracking the calories early on in the year will really pay off even bigger later.

I found a potential job!

I would be a great match.  I just need to convince the company.

The only skill that I don't have:  I'm not bilingual...as far as Spanish is concerned.  I learn so quickly and do really well with communication that I think that I could pick it up really quickly.  My guess is that a lot of the staff are Hispanic.

I would be able to work 25 hour a week during their business hours.  I could do more hours if they are available during non business hours.

I am give them a call this afternoon.

I would be amazing at this job!

...and there are benefits if I can put in enough hours.

Hopefully the air is a bit better at your place than it is in Seattle. It is a joy to run in 'stagnant' air.

Cut ten minutes off my run as I was feeling pretty bad.  Feeling pretty good right now though.  When you're sick above the neck, sometimes a little exercise is the best medicine.  Going to try to add that 10 to my run tomorrow morning.

I have to confess I totally lost track of my pushups.  I plan on starting week 4 again next week.  I suppose I could blame it on the mega increase in training these past two weeks, but I know I just got lazy.  NO MORE!  Monday will be a new day for my pushups.

How are we doing with the dreary January training?  January and February are just really tough to get through aren't they?

I hope you kick the cold soon, Bill!

I have a training question.  Is it normal to have weeks when it seems like you're backtracking a bit?  This week I'm finding my workouts more challenging than last week, and I've got muscle soreness worse than normal.  My push-ups have suffered, and I am maxing out on the last set at 15 or below when last week I was hitting 20.   I'm wondering if this is due to fatigue (I'm working long hours) or if it is part of a normal cycle to training.

I am actually enjoying the cold weather training, now that it is actually cold here and we have snow on the ground.  I'm not fond of rain in the winter, and had a tough time with December.  I've gotten to run in snow flurries a few times in January and I really like that.

I'm glad I invested in a bike trainer, though, because it would be much harder to convince myself to ride outside.  I don't run fast enough to have to deal with cold wind in my face, but on the bike....brrrr.....

Today was a day off for me except for some pushups/situps which I too have struggled to keep up with.  I ate like a horse today b/c I was so hungry most of the day.

I don't generally mind training outside in the winter but it has been bitterly cold this month.  However, I would not survive on the bike w/o a trainer.  I have mental issues riding from my house in good, warm weather so I would never make it out in the cold.

Melissa - good luck w/ the job prospect.

This has been a tough week, I'm glad Friday is close, this week I have been in ALL DAY LONG PAINFUL meetings, I've been mentally exhausted unable to drag myself out of bed in the mornings and hitting the hard stuff when I get home (cookie dough straight from the tube...  multiple LARGE spoonfulls)

I'm planning on swimming or spinning tomorrow, and going to my tri class Friday night!!

Another thing... I wanted a trainer to get some "real bike" ride in morning/night when the kids are asleep.  I decided to get a set of rollers instead of a trainer, thinking that you can't cheat on a set of rollers (which I'm finding true) but It's mentally taxing when you are riding those things, if you (well, I) don't stay focused with my head straight and in good body position, I'm on the ground.  I'm hoping this will get easier for me!  I'm kinda wishing I would have bought a trainer so I can watch TV or close my eyes (heck, even wipe the sweat from my brow)

OK I'm done with my pitty party

Quite normal.  I've watched my cycling mph go consistently down the more I rode the past two weeks.  Seems counter intuitive as the more you do something the better you should get, but it's all about the fatigue.  The more you do, the more fatigued you get, the harder it is to maintain the same performance.   The trick is to remind yourself that you actually are getting better, and that you're not aiming to be at your best tomorrow.  You're aiming to be at your best on race day.

It messes with your head and can start to creep into and chip away at your confidence.  And on top of that, any of life's stresses seem to compound it.  It's really hard to go out and run say a 10:00/mile pace one day, then follow it up with a 10:45/mile pace the next.  But that's normal and is just how training works.

Yeah, but the coolness factor with being able to ride rollers outweighs everything

A quick lesson on what to do if you have to cut a workout:

As I'm having to do exactly that this week, I figured I'd pass along my though process.  The head cold is clearing up a bit, but this morning wasn't all that great.  I was planning on getting up and doing an hour long run, but I was still really tired and the throat was sorta scratchy.  No need to risk making it worse because this weekend is pretty key for me.  Anyway, I also had a swim planned for lunch.  That swim is now cancelled and I'm going to run as I'm feeling a lot better as the morning progresses.  Why not cancel the run and do the swim?  Well, swimming is far and away the best of the disciplines for me.  I need those 2400 yards far, far less than I need that hour of running.  Now, I would much rather be swimming than running, but they sort of make you do all of them in a tri, so I might as well use my time wisely.

Basically, if you find you are going to have to cut a workout either from illness or general life, cut your strength and keep your weakness.

I managed to fall over on my trainer last week.  I ride an old hybrid without clips, so I was able to get my foot down before it was really embarrassing.  I can't imagine what I'd do on rollers.

Rollers are definitely cool, though.

It's nice to be normal, for a change.  Wink

I'm glad today is a rest day.  I can tell my body needs it.  The only thing I have scheduled is push-ups, and I am waiting until this evening to do them so I get a few more hours in between sessions.  Work should slow down next week, which should help.

that will have to wait till this weekend!

It's nice to know at least one of us survived the week.

My own survival is still questionable.  Next week will be better...next week will be better...next week will be better...

I ran 2.5 miles this morning!

Okay, I know that's a short run for the rest of you, but it's my longest run in, oh, 12 years or so.  I'm excited.  Laughing

That is not a short run for me-It is at least a medium.  6 months ago I would have considered it too long.
