Expert 819 In the Shadow of the Big House | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL Quote from above Here's a question for you. How do you entertain your brain while swimming? I usually start the swim thinking "what the heck am I doing?" type things. Sometimes I think about technique, or list out what else I need to do that day (but then forget the list later on). There's not much scenery at the bottom of the pool. Just curious. Hope everyone's having a good start to the week. My wife got me a waterproof armband for my ipod. I love it. Comes with waterproof earbuds too. The armband works awesome, but I found it to be a little tight (which is funny since I don't have what I would consider big arms) so I got the extender and now I wear it as a belt around my waist. It's sweet. I was surprised how much better I keep my focus with some music to keep pace with. H2Audio i think is the company. They are based in California. Edited by gobluedds 2009-02-02 4:48 PM |

Veteran 194 North Central WA | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL Writebrained - 2009-02-02 1:44 PM Got a run in today...it was nice outside. I sometimes count my laps in Spanish. A lot of times I'm focusing on a specific technique or a drill so...my mind is engaged. But a piece of lint floating thru the air does that for me......most days. I gave up counting laps in my head, english or spanish. I just kept losing count. And the floating lint or other stuff is very distracting for me. I start to wonder about all the other stuff that could be floating as well, Yuck. Chlorine kills it all right? |

Expert 819 In the Shadow of the Big House | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL They also make lap counters that you can wear on your hand like a ring. It has a button you click with your thumb after each lap. I haven't tried one, but was on the verge of getting one when I got the armband. Swimming a couple of miles and trying to keep lap counts in your head can really be tough. I am certain that whatever is floating in the pool must be dead from the chlorine. ( I keep telling myself that everyday) No different really than open water swimming, right, just that you can see more in the pool. Heh. Heh. Eeww. |

Veteran 194 North Central WA | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL I have the ring lap counter and love it. Well worth it. Much easier than reaching for a button on a watch. Is the waterproof Ipod holder bulky? I looked at and wonder if it's uncomfortable. |

Much easier than reaching for a button on a watch. Is the waterproof Ipod holder bulky? I looked at and wonder if it's uncomfortable. I have had no issues with it being bulky. The only issue I had with it was the first time I tried to use the belt, I didn't have it tight enough and it wanted to pull away on my first flip turn. After I got it snugged down a bit more, it was no issue. Now, I don't use it while I am trying to do any speed work, this is really for those long, slow swims. |

Veteran 194 North Central WA | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL Okay, back to more serious matters. I got a nice ride in this morning and some weights. But I'm tired from yesterday's swim. Now I need to pack. I'm headed to Seattle for an overnight trip. Picking my mom up from the airport. Then to make it fun, taking my son to the aquarium and doing a little shopping at Pike's Place Market. Be back late tomorrow night. I'm not taking a computer with me (Yikes). So y'all have a good day and don't get into any trouble. |

Master 2020 | Subject: RE: Writebrained/JHouse4's 2009 - Newbies Unite Group FULL Oh and one other item… I don’t like the lap counters or any of that. After a while your body will know. Heading one way is always going to be an odd number (25, 75, 125 etc) and coming back will always be an even( 50, 100, 150 etc). As a math nerd I always think about the percentage of the set that I have completed. |

I have a funny picture/question to post on my blog in a little bit. Since there is someones actual phone number on it, I have to do a little editing. Tri club meeting tonight. Cervelo rep is going ot be there with a P4. I will try and snag some pictures of it and post them. |

(well, as pretty as it can be at 4:30). Drove 20 miles into work and discovered a blizzard in progress. We are supposed to get 7 inches today before 1:00. Called my wife at home. Sun is shining. WTF??? Michigan is the weirdest state ever in terms of weather. No outside runs at lunch...lol. |
