becroy - 2009-11-12 4:42 AM NOT HAPPY 10/29: 149.6/146.4/140.0 11/5: 149.6/146.2/140.0 11/12: 149.6/150.2/140.0 I don't even know how it is possible to do this in a week. I am assuming the fact that I have not been active might have a bit to do with it (I fell down the stairs on friday) but attributing all 4 pounds to that would be crazy. I also think it might be some water retention (time of month) and overall just having a lot of stress. I don't 'feel' that much different in terms of the way my clothes fit so I am hoping once i get back to moving around that it will just drop off. In the meantime this seems like a huge step in the wrong direction and I am a bit discouraged (which cycles back to being stressed :-) ) Any words of encouragement?

All of us would like to help, we all have the same goal!
Couple of things, just throwing them out there. Your logs are empty, we cant see how much you are burning a day as far as calories from any exercise. Are you logging your food, this has helped me allot as far as discipline and what and how much to eat. Your log shows your goals are to eat 1500-2000 calories, thats too much wiggle room over the period of a week, I would try to narrow it down so you can be more exact and can see how to adjust if needed, if you are trying to stay in that wide of a range then you are just guessing or just adding too many calories. Seeing what kinds of foods you are eating can provide you with feedback also, truth is we all have weaknesses and moments we get super hungry, without eating right these moments can be extremely difficult or deal breakers! For me a pound or two a week is expected because Im trying to balance weight loss with gaining strength and fuel for my workouts, every calorie is important, but I cant afford to take in too many or to little.

1) that time of the month can really screw with the numbers...it makes my numbers totally wacky...wait until you start and then remeasure.
2) one week is a very small fraction of your entire life (shoot - it is only 1/52 of an entire year)...if you were gaining 4 pounds a week for many weeks - it would be a different story...but you aren't. Just get back on the bandwagon (so to speak) and think positive thoughts.
3) Look at the progress you have made. That's great! Aren't you pleased with what you've done so far? I'm impressed...

Keep on...you'll do it.

For what its worth, on a recent trip to GA, I ate a "southern meal" once a day for four days or so and came home up 5 pounds.  I was freaking out, but it only took about four days to get right back down to where I started, and all I did was eat at home, lots of fruits and veggies and healthy stuff.  That time of the month definitely can make a HUGE difference, too.  I wouldn't worry at all.  AND if your body is trying to heal itself from your fall, that can really mess with your system, too.  I expect that is kind of like the water weight that some of us tend to hold onto while recovering from a hard race weekend.  Give it a few days and see where you are.  If you are eating healthy stuff, that will only help your body to rebalance and be where you should be.

Seriously, it's stuck! Last week was supposed to be my heavy week, this week my skinny week. My abs looked a bit better this morning so I was so excited to weigh in. I was super disappointed to find that it didn't budge. I had one bad day this weekend (it was a really bad day food wise, but in my defense I had run forever that morning and was starving!). Otherwise I have been sticking to my ratios but been a bit low on calories because I've been sick. But if anything I thought that would help, not hurt me. Especially as my workout volume was really low last week I shouldn't have needed as many calories. I never did go below 1700, so it's not like I starved myself or anything.

My weight stinks, but I feel good.  I just want to toss the scale!  I started at 160, got down to 155, and have been at 158 for two weeks now.  I had one "bad" weekend two weeks ago, but have had near-perfect nutrition since, and have been burning more calories.  I'm tracking food on The Daily Plate through Livestrong, so I know what I'm eating and the amount of calories I'm burning (well, calories burnt according to my heart rate monitor).  So, I shall not fret.  I still want to get down to 145, and I will.  It just may take some time.  160/158/145

140/141.6/135 (I think my original goal was 130 but that just isn't going to happen by Christmas)

I'm bummed. I have definitely been eating better this week. It's my birthday week so I had some cake, but I really made sure the watch my calories during the day so I could fit it in.

I started counting calories again even though I hate it. Two days this week were just pretty low, 1200 and 1100 cals. I know I should be eating more and will, but it seems like no matter what I do I either stay the same or gain a bit. I'm starting to think I really do have a thyroid problem. After looking up the symptoms, I found I had most of them. I'm definitely suffering from horrible fatigue. I guess I'll find out for sure in January if my TSH is still above normal.

Ok, enough pity party. I'll keep counting calories, aim for 1350-1600, keep working out, up my cardio, try to stay positive. Onward and upward (er, downward?)

Sorry I'm late this week.  I weighed in Thursday but studying for mid terms was kicking my butt so now that it's over, I am playing catch up on everything else.  I'm happy to see that my number playing is bringing on good results.

I also wanted to let you know that I have tried the suggested shirataki noodles and protein in the coffee and must say that the protein coffee thing was a huge hit but I'm not so sure about the shirataki noodles.  They were ok but I'm not sure I can get past the chewiness of them.  I'm curious, for those of you who use them, what do you use them in and if it's just another one of those things that you get used to for healths sake?!

I've only tried them once - I didn't like the texture. I'm interested to see what others say about this.

Hi,   I know this is way into the challenge, but I'd like to join.  I've been away from the site a long time and back up to 185 lbs.  I lost about 20lbs 2 years ago and stopped working out when the health of my dh went from bad to worse.  Been trying to lose but don't have any support to speak of.  I could really use some help.  It it's okay, my beginning weight and goal is:

Starting: 185 lbs.

Goal for challenge:  175 lbs.

Thanks!

Frustrated. I exercised. I ate well. I had two days that were over because of birthday dinners but most of the time I stayed at or under 1500 calories. I don't know what to do.

I hope everyone else had a much better week than I did.

Same as last week.  My wife suggest I should not ever buy shelled peanuts in bulk again, Costco is evil.  I swear these things are like crack.  I start munching on them and I can't seem to stop.  So I am swearing them off, for a week and see if that helps.

Shirataki Noodles:  I love these things, keeping mind I have not had noodles of any kind in almost 2 years when I tried them.  I don't eat them often but the uses I have found so far have been for Stir Fry (favorite), Chili and the typical noodles with any sort of sauce.  I did have my wife try a bite of mine once and she commented they were chewy and gross.  Her taste in food is very texture based so she avoids alot of things that I would consider similar like Mushrooms, Egg Plant, etc.

Color me peeved! I logged everything this week and have been so good! My ratios are finally correct, my calories in the right range. Tuesday I snuck a peak at the scale and it had finally gone down to 121.5. Only half a pound but I've been stuck for weeks so I was really excited about that half a pound! Yesterday I was up to 123.5. I thought maybe I was bloated. Drank tons of water, ate perfectly and I'm still UP. I'd be less upset if my pants weren't too tight, that makes me think it's not just water . I'm at a complete loss at this point.

None the less the weight did come off from last week. I have not been super careful (had a big drinking/party weekend) but I am hoping to just maintain over thanksgiving and get back on track the few weeks before x-mas. Not sure if I am going to hit my goal my christmas with the number of parties i see coming up but staying consistently below my initial weight will make me pretty happy too. I will keep the goal there just because I might slack off more if i change it!

I looked at your logs, great job logging! Are you sure you want to be eating 25-30% fat daily, it seems to be awfully high if your goal is to loose weight . It appears you are following a 50%carbs/25%protien/25%fat ratio based on what your logging, what ratios are you trying to eat? Going to a less ratio of fat and more protien would aid recovery better and curb hunger, more carbs might give more energy but could also add weight if not burned, but I think your fat intake is maybe 5% high. Nothing wrong with a 50/25/25 diet for endurance, in fact  probably 80% of BTers probably use it, it just may not be the best if you are expecting to loose weight.

I feel great, my clothes are fitting a little better, I'm off all unnatural/processed/added sugar, I'm doing well with workouts, am logging all food on the Daily Plate, am sticking to a 40/40/20 protein/carb/fat ratio, and am consistently consuming between 1600-1800 calories per day. Can I just keep doing what I'm doing? I feel wonderful... until I step on the scale! 160/157/145

Okay.  Between the big cut-back in my training, and another trip to GA and eating stuff I should not have, I am not doing well here.  I clearly need to start logging my food again.  That really helps.  But I also seem to be lacking energy and motivation to do that at the moment.  It makes me miserable when I feel over-weight, but for some reason, that doesn't help me cut down on the calories I take in.  ARGGGG!

Thanks for checking my logs and for the information. I spoke with a nutritionist around when this challenge began and she suggested I up my fat and protein. I was shooting for 60-20-20 and regularly hitting about 65-70 carbs, 10-15 fat and 20 protein. She's the one who really tried to get both my fat and protein higher. She wants 25-30% protein, 25% fat and the rest carbs and she increased my calories. Basically my weight is ok, but my bodyfat is too high and she thinks my metabolism is out of whack and my body is in starvation mode (high training volume + ~1600 calories per day was not enough she said) so it is cannibalizing my muscle and retaining fat. Her thought was the fat will make my body think it's ok and the protein will help it build muscle and recover from training. I've been following her plan mostly. I got sick for a bit over a week and dropped the calories due to lack of appetite, but still stayed around 1700. I tried to keep the ratios the same though. Maybe I will try to drop the fat lower to 20% and see how that does. I struggle trying to eat enough fat anyway, I'm always proud when I can hit 20%. I will try that the week after Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving week will be hard enough without any new changes

I've not trained quite as frequently the last 2 weeks, and have been struggling with considerable time overseas and trying to stay on track with eating etc but am pleased with some small progress this week...

Start:      201
Target:    175
Current:  182.5

I plan to spend more time in the pool than I have been recently and take advantage of 2 weeks back at home to walk and train more frequently to get <180 in the next 2 weeks
