I think Owl Girl mentioned a TT. Anyone else? I have my very first tri on the 21st...a sprint...the first of 16 races planned so far. 4 tris, 4 OWS, 7 road runs, 1 century. That's a busy season. You have a lot of running races. Is that your background? My season is busy...but most of my races aren't A races...a lot of C races. And it's fairly cheap because two of them are series. The OWS are 4 races, 1, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.3 mile swims for $99...all with t-shirts. And 5 of my runs are a series, 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, and a HM for $99...all with shirts. So yeah...$198 for 9 races and 9 shirts...DEAL So it's really just a way to make sure I stick to my training. I find that it's a good excuse to go home early when friends are giving you peer pressure to stay out late. Running isn't really my background...I was always athletic, but until last year, I was "none of the above" when it came to tri sports. I'm really stuffing a lot into this season just to build strength, endurance, speed, and experience...not necessarily to race fast...next year I'm targeting a HIM in June, and possibly an IM in the fall...so I'll be cutting my race schedule down and focusing more on the quality of my races. |

I hear you. Racing is definately addictive. However, let me just throw my two cents out there. And, please feel free to take it for wants it worth, probably less than two cents! Just be careful with the runs. Running will beat you up like no other if your not careful. Don't escalate miles or speed to quickly and don't be afraid to pull out of a race if you are not up to it. I've been sidelined for nearly two months after building too fast for a marathon. I'm just now starting back at ground zero and rebuilding. Not only has it cost me a few races, but seriously jepordized my 2010 season; not to mention, medical costs and constant soreness. End of rant, just be safe! |

Friday is my one day a week to not worry about what I eat. I'm not gonna lie, I will probably eat the whole thing Funny.... I took the kids to pizza tonight too. My appetitie is quite ravenous after today's swimming. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge Alright TWISTERS, double swims today. I liked it! It allowed me to go a little longer without the fatigue I usually experience. I think my plan will be to do double swims once a week, in addition to my regular sets, for the rest of the month. Thanks to everyone pushing the internal swim competition I racked up 11,700 yards this week! Now, if I can just get the rain to stay away, I can get to work on that bike goal! |

Not only has it cost me a few races, but seriously jepordized my 2010 season; not to mention, medical costs and constant soreness. End of rant, just be safe! Point well taken. Other than my half maraton in June and my full marathon in December, none of my road races will be at race effort. The shorter ones (15k and 20k) I may do at marathon pace, but everything else will be more like LR pace. I love the race atmosphere, even though I'm not going all out. And I think it's good game plan practice. To hold yourself back when you know you can go harder...because that's what the first 15 miles of the marathon is all about. I did the same series of runs last year when I did my 1st marathon and they were nicely spaced out. And yes, I will pull out if injuries come up. My tri season ends in July, so I should have lots of time to SLOWLY build my running base for my marathon in December. I really appreciate the concern though...I would give the same advice to anyone I wasn't sure knew what they were "running" into. |

Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge Brick... Forgot to mention that I also made the same mistake you did two years ago when training for what "should" have been my first marathon. Tried to go from 0 running to 30 mpw in 2 months...yeah...patellar tendonitis, couldn't run for 2 months, and a DNS for the marathon. Even though my marathon was successful last year, I still needed to make adjustments as I did develop a couple minor injuries from trying to use the F.I.R.S.T. training plan where you build slow, but you also run too aggressively. Eventually, we all learn the hard way. |

Great job! Thanks, but melissa's 10k post got me thinking... Not a good thing! At this pace, it would only take me about 3.5 weeks to make it across the English Channel (38,000 yards). Really makes you stop and think, doesn't it? |

Champion 7931 Sequim, Washington | Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge I still need to figure out my race schedule...I am kind of limited by lack of funds and there are so many events that I would like to do. There are 3 events I am considering that all fall on the same weekend. I need to figure out which of these I want to do the most. I am currently leaning towards STP, a bike ride from Seattle to Portland. It is 220 miles. If I do go with STP I then need to decide if I want to do it in one or two days. |
