Hey guys,

I feel kinda funny talking about a 5k, with all of this IM discussion going on... I finished my race yesterday in 22:40, which is a PR for me.  It was cold and windy, so I definitely think I can go faster.  I also won.  It was a local race, with about 60 or so people, and there were only 3 people at the finish line, so not too much fanfare, but I still won   It's the first race I've ever won, so even though it wasn't a super fast time, it felt good.

Congrats on the win. Maybe there were only 3 people at the end because they thought that no one could finish that fast and tey just weren't ready for you to come cross the finish line. Great time.

Congrats, sounds like your training is paying off, a PR and a win to boot.  Cool.

PennState - 2010-04-18 9:04 AM Just got a cold 10 mile run in with friends. It has been in the 30s fir this weekends training. Anybody else training today?

Just an easy 1 hour bike that looks like it will be done on the trainer.  Maybe some strength training too, but I might defer that till tomorrow.

Nice to run with friends!

PennState - 2010-04-18 9:39 AM Hey BTW I have a good friend doing the Boston marathon tomorrow. Anybody else know people doing it? If I could ever get my injuries under total control I've thought of doing it in 2011.

I don't think I know anyone doing it this year.  Good luck to your friend.

I would like to do it, my goal is to qualify before I turn 50 (four years away).  After Florida, I may make that a priority for 2011.  By my last marathon time, I have another 30 minutes to improve.  That was a 35 minute PR, so maybe not doable in a year, but doable none the less.

Don't feel funny!  If I had a PR and won a race I would very proud. Great  job and congratulations!

zionvier - 2010-04-18 12:33 AM Chris:  Looks like you know what you can improve on in the swim.  Your bike and run sounds like it went great too.  Perhaps you can give more detail on your transitions though.  Perhaps we as a group can help each other out with tips on what to do to help make them faster.  I'm sure we can all use help in speeding them up.

Well in T1, it was a run from the lake to the transition area, and I jogged up there when everyone else was walking; I felt good that I was passing peole but I think since I didn't get out with the fishes, it gave me a false sense I was flying.  Also my tri suit didn't have a pocket and I was fumbling for a place to put my inhaler;  I ended up putting it in my leg, inside the suit.

In T2 I couldn't find a shoe since someone moved it, and rested for a quick (very quick) moment.  I still tie my shoes, and that slowed me down as well.

I did see the COOLEST transition ever!  Some guy was going into T2 at full speed and the volunteers were telling him to dismount.  He went over the mat, put his leg over and placed both feet on one side.   Somehow with the bike going full speed he still was able to balance the bike with his cleats on the ground slowing him down.  I somehow doubt it was intentional.

My husband and I are going to head out in a bit for a 25-30 mile ride. I'm supposed to also run 50 minutes this afternoon but my calf is still a bit sore so I'm going to see how I feel after the ride and decide then whether or not to scrap the run. We're having some great weather here in SF so I want to get out and enjoy it.

Great races this weekend!

I did a chilly 5k today with a new member of our tri club.  I need to get my butt on my bike.

Did my 1st "real" OWS this morning with a bunch of people from First Wave Tri Club here in Phoenix. We swam at Lake Pleasant which is a big man made lake in the NW part of the valley. The water was actually not bad and we got use to the cold fairly quickly. I thought I would do better but the sighting slowed me down a bit. I didn't swim off course to much but wanted to work on my sighting. My goggles fogged up after about 400 yds and I struggled to get them fixed. My arms also got more tired than I'm use to with my wetsuit on. Also struggled a but to get a good body rotation to breath but I worked on that on the way back to the boat ramp. I think with more OWS practice I'll be fine with it. I have 3 OWS tri's this year so I need to get better at it.

After the swim I went for a hike for about an hour. I did 3 3/4 miles in 1 hr 11 min with 682 feet of climb. Actually, it's up and down a lot so I don't know how much up and down I did. It's my usual loop hike in the mountain park by my house.

This week will be a lot of rest because I need to my shins rested for Mexico. I also am having chafing issues on the left crease of my leg/groin area on the bike. I've done body glide and all kinds of stuff but it still keeps happening. I'm guessing that I need a new pair of bike shorts. I didn't have a problem in my tri shorts when I raced in them. Anyone ever have this issue before?

Hope everyone had a good weekend training and competing.

Did a 1.2 mile ows this morning to try to reinstill some confidence, I did okay and really was fine afterward.  I only got out because there were some shady people on the beach near my stuff and I was alone.  I'm going to do 2.4 next Sat and that's really my last big session for all 3...

I'm quasi out of commision on the run; I cut a toe during my transition through the beach...

Got some new gear, sunglasses, a Speedfil water system, and a transition bag.  The duffle bag wasn't cutting it.

The new sunglasses have no top brim so I should be able to see better; my Oakleys have a wide brim and I have to move my head up to the point I was just not using them.  The Speedfil will hopefully help me stay in aero longer; not getting up to drink!

PennState - 2010-04-18 6:35 PM OWS sighting takes a lot of practice. Does anyone practice sighting in their indoor pool?

Only when I am sharing a lane and we are swimming side by side instead of in a circle. That can get dangerousSurprised

Not too much, but I am fortunate that I get most of my swimming in the lake from June through early September, which you would think might make me swim straighter, but not so much!
