I was thinking of starting birkram yoga in ~February once a week to acclimate me to the heat...

Good idea or not?

Can you move a spin bike or treadmill in there?

It's a little easier for those of us already in Texas. My plan is simply to do my long rides and long runs during the warmest parts of the day during April and May. Temperatures will gradually rise and I'll gradually get accustomed.

I'm in Houston, but based on the 70.3 in April this year, I wasn't even close to ready for the heat.  I'm just not one of those people who like running in the heat.  I though spending an hour or two a week in a hot room would help me (mentally and physically).

This year I purposedely ran at lunchtime in Dallas every noon for two months (still ongoing) and even though I've acclimated, the pace is significantly slower (at least 40"/mile race pace) than that of the late fall/winter months. The plan for the race is not going to be ambitious during the marathon, just an easy 6 mile jog after T2 and then maintain a humble pace until the end of the race fighting off the demons. Definetely not a PR race, it's gonna be about who slows down the least...
About the Memorial Hermann 70.3 this year, I didn't do it but several people I know had a horrible race from the heat and wind. Conversely to what you stated, they were not ready to take on the heat.

The main issue was that we had an unusually cool winter and early spring.  Nobody was acclimatized to the heat.  Most people also overcooked themselves on the first half of the bike due to the headwind.

Yeah, I didn't have much issue with the weather at Galveston. I didn't do very well, but that was lack of training.

Is there anybody doing Ironstar in November 7th? the bike course will be part of the IM Texas course, and I want to get a feel for the area (never raced close to the Gulf). I think I'm signing up. It's gonna be another way to stay "race sharp" during the fall/winter.
In March I'm doing the new 70.3 in Puerto Rico, which is exactly 10 weeks away but will have equal heat and humidity, to gauge my fitness at that point.

I'm just glad that the temps won't be quite as high as it will be this week.. 99 with heat index of 105! Good training to get ready for the heat. It's amazing how the body remembers.

May do the Aqua Bike at Ironstar- Race is 2 weeks before I do Ironman AZ so will have to see what taper feels like before I commit.

I'm planning on doing Ironstar.  I've heard good things about it.

I am doing ironstar for my second year.  It was great last year even though I was undertrained on the bike.  It is a well run race.

Any estimation on when Iron Star will sell out? I don't want to commit to it yet.

Hmmm ... It hasn't sold out in the past.  BUT, IF the bike course is actually part of the IronStar course then this small little local race could get rather large.  It will be interesting to see how many sign up this year?
