Did anyone get any amazing Tri-gifts for Christmas?

I gave myself a Cervelo P3.  I think my bike now costs more than my car.  Should be a very good year

I got Shimano SPD pedals, a little over $300 in tri gift cards, and a new skin suit!  Not a cervelo, but not a bad day either.

And since I got new pedals I might just use the gift card for new tri shoes.  My current shoes are mountain biking shoes.  Any suggestions?

The book 'How Triathlon Ruined My Life' and cash for Louisville entry, I'm in the book didn't put me off.

Steve,

I love my LG Tri Lite shoes.  They are light and rigid and have served me well (I use them with speedplay zero pedals and ride sockless 90% of the time).  I would say at least give them consideration.

Nothing new for tri so far this year. I may invest in a new seat for my slice.  I feel like I keep getting nice new pretty stuff for my tri bike and my road bike gets neglected.  I may do something for it :-)

Tri Sam - 2010-12-26 6:39 PM Carrie- I am hopefully on the backend of Achilles Tendonitis. I took from ealry October until late December off after it became obvious that training at the level I was for an upcoming 1/2 marathon was a bad idea. I was icing, and massaging it, etc, but it wasn't enough. I didn't start the 1/2 marathon and stuck to treating the injury. I've had Achilles Tendonitis before, as well as a stress fracture in my foot and I'm aware of how each feels, so I'm confident about what I'm dealing with. Having said that, I'm sorry you are having foot pain. Did a doctor determine you did not have a stress fracture? Did you have an MRI? An x-ray does not usually pick up stress fractures. Where is the pain in your foot?

~Sam

Sam, I did have an Xray  a few weeks after.  It doesn't feel like the SF I had before but it IS in a different spot.  I'm basically treating it like an SF anyway.  There is no pain in my foot until about 20 minutes into run.  At first the pain was on the first metatarsal and the joint of the big toe.  This was immediately following my 50 mile run - it actually started hurting during the run. Now, it is only sore inbetween the first and second metatarsal - there is no pain to the touch or anything.  Primary doc said it was just some type of soft tissue issue/ tendonitis or something - basically told me to rest.  I figured I would give it a few weeks as I'm not itching to run just yet in this cold weather. It has given me an opportunity to get myself back into the pool and on the bike.  Injuries are just super frustrating.

I got a few goodies for my wife and I over the past month under the excuse of ChristmasLaughing
Got a used PowerTap wheel of Ebay (just the most basic edition on a regular road bike wheel, nothing too fancy). We also are getting a bike fit for each of us. We have never done it before so I am interested to see if it helps my comfort and efficiency.

How about New Year's resolutions? I have a couple:
First - I "listened to my body" really well in training this past year. So well, in fact, that looking back I realized I pretty much just wussed out on a LOT of my long or hard workouts. This year I resolve to push through the pain and not use listening to my body as a lame excuse.

Second - I resolve to go and find some hills to ride on for a long ride at least 3 times every 2 months. I know that isn't a lot, but I only went to find hills 3 times all of last season, and only one of those (when I actually rode the IMLOU course) was a long ride. Living in central Indiana I normally ride on the flattest roads imaginable, so I did struggle some in Louisville.

Thrid (and most challenging) - I resolve to focus on my nutrition and maintain a healthy diet. I am one of thosse athletes who works out so I can eat, and I eat garbage! I have more desert than dinner, and the dinner is often no better than a big mac. I love to eat greasy food and junk food, but I am really going to try to improve.

That swim nonsense generally happens about half the time at the pool I swim at. I went to swim Sunday at 1. I was the only person in the parking lot and just when I had convinced myself that swimming wasnt necessary for the day, and I could get in a good run instead, and I'll just swim Tuesday, the dude shows up to unlock the doors. So, that just leads to a crappy swim. I dig having 4 seasons in KY, but I also wished I lived somewhere that I could S/B/R outdoors years round.

Yesterday I had a good swim as it had been over a week since last touching the H2O.
Today I'll be hitting Jorge's Wk6D1 of the program. All I hear is that those 6x4's are brutal. Only one way to find out...

I did not ask Santa for any tri gifts and as I suspected, I did not get any.
Like Jillian, my gift came back in April when I purchased my blue bike.

As far as tri goals for the year, I just want to be healthy at the start of any race and be able to have PR's along the way.

Swim update. My coach who was to open the pool yesterday was caught in an airport in a different city. Certainly forgivable. Worse things can happen.

2011 Goals: Get strong and healthy and stay that way all season. Reach the starting line of each of my events prepared in the way that I expect. Complete each race in a healthy manner and reach whatever my goals are for that race. My major goal is of course to be on the starting line of Ironman Louisville, healthy, fit, and ready to go...and then to have a positive experience by finishing healthily, and if all goes well, I reach my time goal as well.  However, the ultimate goal is to enjoy the entire journey ahead.

Peace.

Jillian's interview is up on my blog. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I have a long day ahead of me and I don't know if I'll have time. So...it's up now.

By the way, I do edit the interview answers slightly. I don't ever intend to change the spirit of your answers, but if you feel as though my editing has misrepresented you in any way, please let me know. So far my changes have been very subtle and you may not even notice a difference.

Peace,
~Sam
