Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jend702 - 2011-04-22 10:29 AM Ok. this is probably a dumb questions. so please dont make fun. Is Yards the same as Meters in swimming? I noticed that when I entered my swim yesterday thru my phone I selected meters but its showing yards in my log. I changed it 3 times and it still shows as yards. So im just wondering if they're the same. I normally lose track of how much I swim because Im trying to focus on my technique but yesterday I made sure too and I think I finally figured out sighting. THANK YOU
A meter is about 1.094 yards. 39.37 inches. Pools are either yards or meters. |

Good luck trying to fit all that in with your workouts. Speaking of that...When you guys unexpectedly miss a workout (sleep in, family in town, whatever), do you try to make it up later? Even if it means doubling up? For instance, I missed a 30 min run. Had a 60 min run the next day. Ran 70 min to help make up for the miss. Second question- any recommendation as to which paddles to buy for swimming? Certain brand that is cheap and good? The suggestion is not to try to overdue a workout to make up for one that is missed. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. I hope everyone is having a great day. Good News - my Mother is home from the hospital and things are going fairly well. More testing, blood work etc. next week but for now - all is good. Bike and weights for me today before I go out to dinner with family and visit Mom and Dad. Have a great day everyone. KC |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mary A - 2011-04-22 5:02 AM Hey wait! Those are my times! But I guess since I'm in an older age group I'm OK with the times. But I feel so s-l-o-w now. I'll hold a badge in my first race "BOP-er" and just be done with it. lol -Karenrazorxp - 2011-04-21 10:01 AM Mary you should have to podium in the OA category! Yeah right! I checked the times from last year...If I average swim 1:50/100, bike 18.5mph, and run 9min miles, I'll still be BOP for my age group. Oh, and there are 4 of us now...just checked again. On call again today. 45 min run complete, maybe will get in a bike on the trainer. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Brian: Family is much more important than any training session! Remember we do this for fun. Sara: how do you like 405? I hear they upgraded the bezel (that was my wife's only complaint) What do you do that you have to travel so much? I used to travel for work and I can say I don't miss it one bit. Mary: you will do just fine, its early and your only racing yourself. I hardly ever try to do a makeup workout, unless its a tpace or lt session. As for paddles my only advice is don't go too big at first, can cause major should troubles. Jen: a yard is .9144 meters so just a little bit shorter. For keeping track of laps I tend do wear a watch and just count by 100's. Way to keep working on the sighting it will help when racing starts. Karen: I wish it were my saying but I'm not that smart to come up with it. Being a BOPer is not that bad, I still struggle to move up to mop or fop. It's very hard to do.
KC 1k could go a long way for another bike.. lol |

I like to get there when they have it on the long course. Less turning which I am not good at. -Karenjend702 - 2011-04-22 10:29 AM Ok. this is probably a dumb questions. so please dont make fun. Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have a short race tomorrow, I won't say it is on the beach since SOME people are tired of hearing that, even though the name is Easter BEACH Run. Just 4 miles. Funny it is part of the same route I already run. "...and I am paying for this WHY??" For those who celebrate, Happy Easter, and for all of us, happy weekend! Rest day for me, yeah. -Karen |

Never heard of that but what a terrific idea! Best of both worlds. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Karen you are so lucky, I have a college pool like that about 1hr away that I swim sometimes and its so nice. Scott once you swim in one you would be spoiled and never want a normal 25yr pool. Hey Karen I almost have beach front property problem is its due to a overflowing river (30 degrees too)

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KC - so glad your mum is home. That's wonderful news :-)So I'm at the in laws for the weekend. Love my MIL but she's a food pusher - NOT good for my racing weight goals. I did get to run at Saratoga battlefield today though. I have to say it was a run where I discovered I'm SO much stronger than I thought I was. I was going up hills and feeling strong. LOVE it. Now if only I'd put sunblock on my shoulders and not just my face. Redheads + sun = really not good :-( |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KC - Great news. Glad things seem to be looking up!!
Did a 30 mile ride today. The first half was awesome, I was cruising well above my typical speeds, effort felt good. I was excited was thinking I was actually getting faster. Than I turned around to head back, and thats when I discovered a 20 MPH wind. The ride back sucked, was harder, colder, and much much slower. I made it though and still had an avg speed that was good for me on a longer ride like this. So this will be my second year training for triathlons and I currently have an entry level road bike. I likely will not upgrade until I think the engine is slowing me down more than the bike That doesn't mean I am not interested in some free speed if it is out there to have. What's everybody's thoughts on adding aerobars to a road bike. Good Idea? Will it provide a speed boost. I am little concerned about how comfortable I would be but think my body has adjusted fairly well to riding and may be able to go aero without much pain. Any suggestions as to which ones to buy? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes, get aero bars. You'll be glad you did and don't worry, you'll adapt to being in aero position well if you have a good fit. Try the classifieds on here, I believe there were some for sale? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What size are your bars? I may have a pair laying around. |

I am worried about my handlebars fitting anything, as they seem pretty thick. From the Fuji website: Handlebar Fuji CGC Double Butted 6061, 31.8mm w/Anatomical drops |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got in the 1/2 mary with my wife. Kept nice slow pace for her. Then saw that bad weather was coming back this afternoon, so an hour later I was out on bike with training partner for a 42 mile loop. Even though tired, still able to keep up a pace about 1/2 mph faster than last time doing this loop. My engine must be getting more horse power! Get to go out on date with wife tonight and see live band. Enjoy a few beverages and have some post woerkout carbs. Hope everyone has a good weekend. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a great workout yesterday. I ran, outside, for 4.25 miles without stopping. I owe a lot of this progress to Tim, whose advice to pace and keep thoughts away from running really helped me to get to this. Like I said in my introduction, I play basketball and volleyball, so I sprint from one place to another. Endurance and long distance was never my thing. I even had trouble running a whole mile in one shot. But with Tim's advice and the encouragement of the team here, I was able to do this last night. I was amazed. My heart was not pounding out of my chest. I was not winded at all. In fact, I felt so good that I could've even kept going if I wanted to. Very happy. Granted, I was taking about 12 minutes per mile, but hey, I was able to keep going. I'll work on the speed once I get the endurance down. Just wanted to share this piece of news. Thanks, everyone! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am doing the Don Fink Be Iron Fit program. The swim workouts have recently gotten longer. Due to pool availability and my personal schedule I am not always able to get in the entire workout. See examples below. I am trying to figure out what would be 1st to cut out. I think the 2nd round of drills because I am usually tired and not doing them correctly at tha point anyway. But don't know if I am short changing myself of focusing on those drills when I am tired.
Anybody have any clues on what would be most important vs what I could skip when necessary or too tired? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The 1/2 I was tempted to run and didn't........ they got snowed on. Seriously, it's almost May. Whats up with that?? KC - Did you get your own car back yet? Surely you can't be driving round in a beetle still? Dave, glad to hear you got a decent run in.
