Took the bike out yesterday.  Felt good to get moving again, although I could tell I was off a layoff.  16 Miles through the back roads of the hill country (aptly named by the way) did a body good.  I think I'm gonna love my new saddle.

Foggy a question for you since I know you ride an Adamo.  Does it sit further back or further forward than your old seat.  Felt like there was more weight on my elbows yesterday.

Thanks

I don't have any personal experience with an Adamo, but with a shorter nose on the saddle, if the saddle is pitched down at all that is going to put added pressure on the hands, elbows and arms.  Have you tried to put a level on the saddle while the bike is on level ground? Try raising the nose of the saddle 1-2 degrees and see if that works without putting too much undue pressure on your crotch.

This morning I ran treadmill sprints for about 30 min, progressively faster. The last few were at 9.0, 9.2, 9.4mph and I felt like I could have squeaked it higher. Then hit the pool for a *very* brief 300m. I was running late, so that's all I could do but it still feels good to just be in the water.

Sometimes pays to listen to your own advice, had a friend who just started running and four times last week she tried to make it down this road but blew out every time. I told here to to slow and listen to her breathing when she starts losing control just back off as your going to fast, she came into work bouncing the next day as she not only run the full length of the road but she made it the full length back up.

I stuggled on Monday to swim 1800m as I tried to keep a 1.30min pace for 90m sets but ended up doing intervals due to fatigue. Last night I just started off slow and kept me breathing under control and broke the 2000m of non-stop swimming for the first time (41min) and felt that I could have done it twice

Celebrated this morning with a 5 mile run on a 7.48 pace, now enjoying the rest period.

Think I may tried to jump back into training too quickly.  Wasn't quite over whatever crud was in me...been trying to stay active walk/running on the dreadmill in the warm comforts of my own home.  Run till I'm hacking, wheezing, and coughing then walk till I feel better.

Illness sucks.

Good to see the rest of you all active.

Rest is best, I took a week out of doing nothing and it seemed to do the job.

Hope you recover soon, frustrating as....

Congrats on the 5 pounds Akila!

When do you expect to get your bike? I think that's going to change a lot up for you regarding your training. Nothing like having some wind in your face!

Cupcake shop, eh? I sincerely hope you can serve as a role model for all of us here. No way that I could have a job like that and not adopt the "A cupcake a day keeps the _________ away" philosophy. Only thing that I would suggest is try the flavors out after a workout if possible. If it's soon enough after training you might utilize the insulin levels in your blood stream to work for you.

Thanks! My bike and I should be reunited sometime this weekend or next weekend. And even though it's in the low 30s here right now I can't wait to get back on a real bike, and get on the road.

My solution to the cupcake thing seems to be to try small bites of different flavors so it adds up to 1 cupcake, and to only do it on days I work, and to do it after a workout. I think all of that combined should make the job easier.

Wow, bought a pull bouy, kick board and fins during the week and got them down the pool this evening, couldn't believe the immediate difference they made to my stroke.

The pull bouy especially, straight away I was able to identify that I was rolling too much and when I found my balance my stroke felt like the vids I'd seen on youtube , when I then swam without the swim bouy everything felt so much more efficient, more controlled and stronger.

Good to break my three swims a week up too, distance, intervals and technique/strengthening.

Really feel like I took a big step forward this evening.....

On a down side, left my runners outside yesterday after running in the rain and some cat used them as a litter tray, the wee fooker.

After that I've got about 45 minutes of ST (arms.)

What's your thoughts on strengthening, I'm not currently doing any? if training for a 70.3 end of Sept (you never know) do you think I'd need to start thinking about it.....

I do a core work out at least twice a week but I don't use any weights.

I got an early birthday gift from my better half yesterday.  A new saddle showed up on the front porch.  I got it installed this morning and promptly did an hour on the trainer.  Wow what a difference.  No soreness or numbness.  I should have done this when I first got the bike three years ago.

I can't wait to get back outdoors.  Some how I let a buddy sign me up for a double century (metric) ride in early June, followed up by another century(standard) the next day.  I need to get my climbing legs back for the double.  10,000ft of climbing.  What was I thinking.

Good job, everybody! I got up at 6am for an hour of weight training, and now I'm about 2/3 the way through a 15-hr work day. At least it's Friday, so I can still get 8 hrs of sleep tonight. My schedule will just be off a bit come Monday cos I have to work until midnight again tomorrow. Ugh. Munching on  my toasted chickpeas, and putting all my energy into NOT eating the amazing catered food & candy that just got set out at work. *sigh* I will approach this as a *mental* workout. Just as important as the physical, right?!

...and now I'm winding down the end of a very long day. But I had an epiphany. Froggy, we shouldn't look at it as 5 weeks to a Sprint - more like 18 weeks to an almost-Olympic. This is my first season attempting more than one tri, so i didn't see the interconnectedness.

Need some advice, just found out there's a local duathlon tomorrow 2mile run 10 mile cycle 2 mile run so I'm thinking of entering.

Will be good transition practice and as theres only around 60 people entering it will be otugh enough.

However the question, what would I ware for this event its giving a good day 8degrees celsius, no rain, but should I wear my cycling bib and run in it or shoulld I wear my tri suit with a long sleive top on.

I'm thinking of wearing the tri suit and leaving my cycling jacket at the bike??? I'll wear my running socks.

Going for a 12 mile slow pace run now as I want to keep the legs in good order for my first half marathon in 3 weeks.

Took your advice Foggy and woke up with only a little fatigue from the run and as it was yet another perfect day I threw the kids in the car and headed round for a nosey.

It was only a 35 min drive and the Duathlon was the first in a set of three series 2 mile run, 10 mile cycle and 2 mile run, half up hills and half down.....

It was a great wee event with 137 people finishing and as there’s £2,400 up for grabs over the three series it drew in some top athletes.

So how did it go....it was great, I made plenty of mistakes and possibly held back too much on the cycle in fear of the second run.

Times and places were as follows:

Position - 64th (137finshers)

Run1 - 13:11 (2miles)

Trans1 - 1:21

Cycle - 33:44 (10miles)

Trans 2 - 01:04

Run 2 - 13:53 (2miles)

Was well chuffed for my first event which included the cycle.

My few mistakes were firstly I didn't wear gloves during the first run and my hands were froze when I got to Trans 1 making it difficult even to clip on my helmet, it then took about a mile to get
the gloves on.

Second mistake I had my gloves in my helmet and the velcro pulled out the inside padding.

Third error was my first mount, my head was confused it like an age until I got clicked in

I held back on the bike too much as I had plenty left in me on the second run, this was a fear of never having run off the bike.

Summary a good size Duathlon to start off with and was pleased I finished in the top half, very social event that I was able to enjoy with the family.

I do need to be careful that I don’t overdue my ITB but my body is feeling in great at the mo.....

Ps I wore my tri suit and cycling jacket during the run and threw off the jacket for the second run.

Good job!

I can't wait for the season to start!

Got 2 workouts in today to make up for a pretty lazy week.

Around lunch time (son's nap time) got a good back/bicep workout and when he went to bed for the night got a 1 hour 10 minute treadmill run to prepare for my half marathon coming up in May.

Going to go hard this week with some 2 a days thrown in there just because I had a lazy week.

Well, it has been forever since I have had a chance to get on here! I graduated PT and have been running 3-4x/week for the last week, up to 3 miles now! With no IT Band pain! Yay!

That victory was minimized by my recent realization that my first Tri is only 4 months away and I can no swim more than 100 without gasping at the end for a minute or two! I have slowed my kick so I am hardly kicking at all now and my balance is holding up but I am still out of breath! I am going to really focus on my breathing and try to find some sort of rhythm there....I expressed my concern to my swim coach and she said we will be working on some "survival skills" (ie breast and back strokes) the next few weeks. This did not boost my confidence at all!

I am also worried about starting a training plan for this as I am getting so close to race day. So here is what my trainning currently looks like, please let me know what you think I should add/change. I also need help with my swim workouts. I do a class twice a week and it is good but on the other one or two days I swim solo I don't know what to do for my sets. Should I just do 100s or should I drill more? Is there a workout book any of you have that is good for beginners with low endurance in swim?

Monday: 40min-lift/balance legs, 55 min spin class

Tuesday: am-60min Tri-swim stroke work, 40min lift-arms pm-3mile run

Wednesday:40min-lift/balance legs, 3mile run

Thursday: am-60min Tri-swim endurance, 40min lift-arms pm-3mile run

Friday: Solo Swim 30-60 min, 55 min spin

Saturday: REST

Sunday:  30-40 min swim or 3mile run

I know I need to increase my run milage and will also start outdoor bikes to work and back on the weekends(15miles oneway) pretty soon as the weather is getting nicer. Any other suggestions would be awesome!

Thank you!

Jenny

Thanks all....

Jenny great to hear about you back running ITB sucks, I've just gone down to two runs a week with plenty of stretching, rolling and icing inbetween. One speed and one distance run and I seem to be making the same gains as when I was running five days a week due to the other activities.

My ITB does not like consecutive days running
