FM 149 was resurfaced from 105 (Montgomery) north to the county line in Fall of 2011. The process they used involved a chip overlay of the existing road, followed by a smooth ashalt surface. The way I remeber it, the whole process took about a month to complete, but I could be off. I'd have an easy time believing this is what's going on, as there really are not too many rough chip seal roads in Montgomery County. During the 2011 Oilman race, about 75% of this section was still in the rough chipseal condition, and it was a slow bumpy ride.

It sure would be nice if they'd add shoulders to this section while the crew's out there. That would go a long way in helping with the congestion / safety issues.

Agree. If I remember right, 149 on the oilman/Ironman course got finished at a clip of about 9 miles per day. Oilman happened about a day or 2 too soon, as the roads were great the next week. Also, 149 after jackson road on the return trip got a great shoulder when they redid it. Hopefully this will receive the same fate.

Hope you guys are right...sure would be a bummer for them to screw up perfectly nice roads just a few weeks before the race!

3500m swim on friday

108 mile bike (split 50 on trainer and 68 outside after it was light out) on saturday

5.8 mile run on sunday...man it was pretty hot on Sunday afternoon...I'd better get used to this!

I haven't minded some long rides on the trainer (and maybe you all are faster than me so it doesn't take as much time to go your prescribed distances), but 5 hours is about my max....96 miles seems crazy to me Smile....better than not getting the ride in though, I guess!

Yep, I underestimated this on my 16 mile run around White Rock lake on Sunday. I was OK finishing up the first loop, but by the time I got to the turnaround to get me to 16, I was really starting to feel the temp and humidity, and it was only in the mid 70's! By the time I got back to the car I was baked!

I'm about to start moving my shorter runs (under 90 minutes to start with) to the afternoons since the weather is warming up.

There are also multiple signs between mile 40-50 on the course that say "No Shoulder No Bicycles". So I am guessing that means the residents really are not liking the cyclist.

I purposefully have had my long runs on Thursdays after work in an attempt to not have all of my runs in the cold in the morning.  It's been so mild in N. Texas, though, that I'm not sure it's helped that much.  I'm sure the heat on Sunday with the fact that most of us are probably at our peak training weeks (or getting close) doesn't help.  Probably not a bad thing to have an easy day (for me...not calling your 16 miles easy!) turn into one that splashes a dose of reality on things.

Anyone racing the Nola 70.3 this weekend? I am doing a 20 week plan by Fitzgerald and it seemed to fit well in the training schedule.

I'm not but 4 or 5 guys from my team are. Look for the JSC kits out there, you can't miss 'em. We had one guy secure his Vegas slot at 70.3 Texas 2 weeks ago and a couple looking to do so this weekend. Good luck out there and be safe.

Went out for a nice 2 hour run yesterday afternoon, got lost on the Tennessee backroads, and turned my 2 hour run into three.  One missed turn and I added 7 miles, no stores out there and very few houses or cars.  Good news is that I felt great and if I didn't stop a few times the last few miles trying to figure out which way to go I would have been right on my marathon pace from a few weeks ago.

Train safe.

Hate that I missed out on the got 112 last weekend...

Anyone have the course on tap this Saturday or any other good resources for group rides on the course?

Will be driving in from a couple hours south of The Woodlands on Saturday morning with a couple of my riding buddies, but looking to hook up with those more familiar with the course if possible.

Road - I have a "race rehearsal" ride planned for Saturday. I'm training with TriDot right now and my plan is scheduled for 117 miles ride followed by a 6 mile brick run. I would welcome company out there. I was planning to start somewhere near northshore park or a church lot perhaps in the area and head out North early.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you're interested. I know the course 50/50 by memory so I will enjoy some co-navigators.

[p]Thanks TJ, I followed some bad feet last year and didn't do my own sighting and took a nice round about loop near the big houses heading back after the 1 mile turn. I cursed myself for the rest of the swim back. Biggest issue was the extra time I wasted allowed the faster of the wetsuit'ers to overtake me, so I was stuck with them while trying to go through non- wetsuit'ers. Worst IM swim for me, but I'm looking to change that. (Not that I'm fast or anything, just not as slow as that time says I am) [/p]

Thanks for the post about the swim course. Can't wait to read Parts 2 & 3. I'm doing New Orleans 70.3 this weekend as a "training day" since I haven't raced since last October. This will be my first IM and I must say, that I'm not loving the volume. Did my first 100 mile bike ride last Saturday and didn't drink near enough. Got to work on that. Glad everyone's training is going well.

I'm definitely praying they get those roads fixed before the race, that would make a long day even longer!

"Don't sacrifice what you really want, for what you want right now!"

My mantra for this training cycle!
